On the winter solstice in the third year (1176) of the reign of Chunxi I passed by Yangzhou. When the snow let up, a stretch of field cress met my eyes. I entered the city and looked around myself, only to see a desolate scene and freezing blue waters. As dusk deepened, horns could be heard from garrison barracks. Overwhelmed by grief, I composed this tune. In Xiao Dezao's opinion, my poem is evocative of the sadness expressed in the ancient lament On a Fallen Capital.
At the famous city east of Huai River and west of a stretch of bamboo(Where the first stage of my journey ends),I dismount to rest.As I walk along the road. Once bathed in a reach of vernal breezesI see green field cress on all sides.Since Tartar cavalry pressed upon the Yangtze,The city with abandoned moat and towering trees. Still hates all mention of the war.As evening sets in, in the empty city Chilly horns are echoing.
If Du Mu(a poet of Yangzhou, famous for his poems about the city and the beautiful women there. ), the connoisseur of bygone beauty. Returned to life, he'd lament the lost glory.His magic pen that described a cardamom-like girl. And dream-like time in blue mansions.Can no more tell a romantic story.The twenty-bridges,Upon which fairies once played their flutes,Are still there;And below, in ripples the silent moon glows.But, oh, for whom the red peonies by the bridges Bloom every spring? Who knows? Who knows?

Study Abroad in China | City #1: Beijing | Gilman Scholarship Project Proposal
This video was created to fulfill my Gilman Scholarship Proposal Project. The Study Abroad in China was from Brooklyn College from May 31st – June 28th 2017 with a total of 28 students and 2 professors. The more students there are the more classes are offered. This time around 2 classes were offered: beginner Chinese and development of the silk road. This Study Abroad program visited 7 different cities in China: Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Suzhou, Huangshan and Shanghai.
There should be about 6 or 7 more videos left of this project.

Ten years flew by, and my country has gone broken, only leaving tattered walls behind
Pandering on the rise and fall, while grieving over the past
If my age still allows me to be rampant
I would trade my flute and my current lifestyle, for a spear while riding atop a blood-bathed horse
Beyond my grass hat, the smoke in the cold air with the thin mist gets me thinking

Just as mythological gods are thought to have arrived on earth through the stem of the lotus flower, visitors and tourists to iconic Lotus Island arrive along a graceful causeway sprung like a thread from its landside moorings along the resort coast of Sanya.
And just as the lotus flower symbolizes peace and inclusiveness, the narrative of inner peace and outer exploration begins with the inner heart of calm water punctuated by the fountain of dances and surrounded by a gracious esplanade giving access to a backdrop of mixed-use buildings and highlighted cultural and social gathering amenities -- a tourist and Asian cultural center, botanical gardens and Marine Research Institute, kid's museums and an amphitheater, and at the end of the circular drive, the conference center and cruise terminal.
Each of the seven land petals - interspersed by seven water petals formed by protective breakwaters -- represents some aspect of the experiential adventure as visitors explore four theme parks, lush landscapes and sandy beaches, and residents chose from a variety of homes and lifestyles. And at the outer end of the petals are themed resorts symbolizing Turbulence, with its White Whale Hotel; Happiness, with its Dolphin Hotel and Water Park; Health, with its Sea Turtle Hotel and Wellness Center; Fantasy, with its Sea Horse Hotel and Kid's Theme Park; Romance, with its Starfish Hotel and floating villas; Adventure, with its Shark Hotel and Youth Theme Park; and Mystery, at the most remote location, with its Stingray Hotel accessible only by water taxi and via a labyrinth of extreme experiences.
Visitors to Lotus Island will pass by a number of celebrity islands scattered independently in the ocean. And, indicative of the project's sustainability practices, they also encounter a dedicated LOHAS (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability) low-carbon island of eco-villas, farmlands and electric vehicles; and another island, along with a necklace of turbines, that is dedicated entirely to the harvesting of wave and wind energy.
Forward-thinking design, and the timeless values associated with the lotus will ensure Lotus Island of a seminal impact, and an enduring and iconic legacy.
Grief of Parting Crane 別鶴怨 performed by LAM on Gu Zheng 古箏
I am a classical guitarist who occasionally plays Chinese pipa and gu zheng. The guzheng or gu zheng (Chinese: 古箏; pinyin: gǔzhēng, pronounced [kǔt͡ʂə́ŋ]), also simply called zheng (箏, gu 古 means ancient), is a Chinese plucked zither. It has 18-23 or more strings and movable bridges. The guzheng is the ancestor of several Asian zither instruments, such as the Japanese koto, the Mongolian yatga, the Korean gayageum, and the Vietnamese đàn tranh.
This ancient Gu Zhang piece is a poetic description of the story of separation friends. In the ancient times, the traffic is inconvenient and the life span was much shorter than nowadays. When a friend made a distant travel, it is often a permanent separation with no return. There was an ancient Chinese poem Farewell to Meng Hao-Ran by Li Bai, (701-762 AD) to describe this:
West of the Yellow Crane Tower to an old pale I say goodbye.
He leaves for Yangzhou in mid spring when flower patels fly.
The shadow of his lonely sail gradually fades into the blue sky,
Until I can only see the Yangzi River from heaven rumbling by.
