Top 5 Places to eat in Colombo Sri Lanka - Food Tour Sri Lankan - Restaurants in Colombo -
A short trip around Colombo in Sri Lanka to check out our top 5 places to eat. This is taken from Part 1 of of our Food doc.
I am joined by my good friend Arqam, a local with a nose for good food who is going to take us to 5 spots in Colombo he thinks are worth a look. Lets Go.
1) Pilawoos (Cheesy Chicken PALANDI Kottu)
Pilawoos is a street food late night institution, it has been going for years, has a few branches around town and is a great place for a cheap midnight snack. We are going for the Cheesy Chicken Kottu. Cheap, tasty a must visit when in Colombo.
2) Shafa Hotel Dehiwela : POL ROTTI WITH BEEF CURRY.
3) Jaadi Samaga kema : RICE & CURRY
Jaadi Samanga Game Kaema is a popular eatery down Kesbewa road, that does some great rice and curry at affordable prices. Is the food good, you bet ya.
4) Mayuri/a Hotel: JAFFNA STYLE DISHES
The Ministry of Crab I am afraId is just not as good as this amazing institution of fine food. It small, it is tight, it is a bit rough around the edges but the crab we think is the best in town. 46 Sri Kathiresan St, Pettah, 11.
5) Hullsdorph:
From 6 or 7 onwards until very very late check out the Hullsdorph area of town, pretty much everything you can imagine is for sale from 100s of street food vendors.

Clique Supper Club & Lounge Bar - Colombo Sri Lanka
By definition, ‘CLIQUE’ refers to a small group of people with shared influences, who spend time
together and do not readily allow others to join them. Drawing from the positive connotation of this
definition, the management at CLIQUE created a unique definition of this word to apply to all attributes
of CLIQUE, from its highly selective and exclusive clientele, to its interior decor elements, style, quality of
food and music. CLIQUE aims to provide connoisseurs with a unique and memorable experience through
a combination of gastronomic and sensorial delights.
The menu will continue the Clique style of Eurasian modernist cuisine, featuring many signature dishes
from their introductory menu, including sous-vide steaks, Japanese favourites & Clique Rice, as well as
new dishes to ignite your senses such as mouth-watering 3-tiered seafood platters and BBQ spare ribs.
Currently at No.1 out of 290 Restaurants in Colombo on Trip Advisor, Clique is a culinary destination for
foodies and wine lovers and the creative force behind our cuisine is our team of culinary enthusiasts led
by our Executive Chef Kumar and Japanese Chef Chamila.
Under Chef Kumar and Chamila’s direction, they have taken fusion cuisine to a new level being the
first restaurant in the city, in introducing Steak’n’Sushi as the perfect choice for our patrons. Most
chefs are fortunate to have had exciting stints in exotic, faraway places and Chef Rajendra Prem Kumar
is certainly one of them. Specializing in sous-vide steaks in South Africa, winning the Chef Challenge
Trophy at the Novotel Bangkok, fond experiences with former President of United States Bill Clinton at
the ITT Hawaii, academic achievements in New Zealand and many travels across the Middle East Chef
Kumar has experienced fusion at its best. Chef Kumar’s Fusion menu is supported by a touch of new-age
Japanese, which has been compiled by Chef Chamila, who has worked at Nobu, Dubai in the past ten
years. Chef Chamila's creativity and skill for sourcing the best ingredients and fresh seafood has brought
Clique praise with its many favourite dishes ranging from Dragon Rolls, Karage to Teriyaki Duck.
Located at the Colombo Pharmacy Building in Union Place, Clique is spread over two floors. The space
is demarcated into a main restaurant area featuring a private walk-in elevator, club lounge bar, and
the Boardroom (a private dining area) located on the lower floor. CLIQUE also offers a combination of
canapés, tapas, or a set menu to try out. Situated in the heart of Colombo, with a breath taking view
of Town Hall, Clique Supper Club provides early to late night dining which combines soul, tradition,
modernism and glamour.
The Boardroom is a 1,200 Square foot private space designed in the style of a glamorous living room
featuring a dining area and a lounge. It will be perfect for intimate gatherings for both business and
private functions. The room carries on the design theme of the main space and features custom-made
wallpaper and a continuation of our design philosophy for the space: techy Baroque. The boardroom
can be hired out with a minimum spend of Rs. 25,000. The room layout specifications can be customized
as per your preferences.
The Club Lounge is adjacent to the Supper Club and is described as Techy Baroque InDesign. Designed
in-house, it features Cantaloupe signatures such as custom-made wallpaper, brightly coloured
chandeliers, silver and pink patent leather sofas and new-age LED lighting. The (PG) Playground Lounge
is a VIP room for our guests who prefer privacy and yet do not want to be too far away from the party.
Midweek Live Sessions with Tanuja backed by Suren, Marlon and Duleep - starting your Wednesday
night at 9:00 PM in the lounge and effortlessly covering genres such as Blues, Jazz, World Music and Neo
Soul. Thursdays come alive with the Slipping Chairs - a popular cover band playing contemporary rock

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - We went on an ultimate Sri Lankan street food tour of Colombo, starting from the outskirts of the city and working our way into the market, and all the way to the Galle Face coast. Colombo is a fantastic city, vibrant, and calm and relaxing all the at the same time, and an array of delicious food.
Breakfast roti - We started in the morning for a classic Sri Lankan food breakfast, roti, stuffed with egg, chopped up and topped with curry sauce and dall. It was delicious, especially followed with ginger tea. Total price - 200 LKR ($1.12)
Milano Hotel (Restaurant) - For lunch, Ruzaina and I went to eat at one of her favorite Sri Lankan local restaurants serving a mix of rice and curry. Highly recommended. Total price - 760 LKR ($4.24)
New Paris Hotel - One of my favorite Sri Lankan foods is hoppers, and more specifically egg hoppers - a combinations of rice flour batter and coconut milk, fried in a rounded skillet and topped with an egg. Egg hoppers - 40 LKR ($0.22) each
Pettah - We continued this Sri Lankan street food tour to Pettah, a busy business district of Colombo. We met up with Abram: to do some more eating.
Fruit - 100 LKR ($0.56) - First we stopped to eat some pickled and candied fruit. I especially liked the black pepper rub on some of the fruit like the pineapple.
Bombay Sweetmeat Mart - One of the popular local Sri Lankan things to eat in Pettah is faluda and samosas. Pretty good, but I’m not huge on faluda. Total price - 320 LKR ($1.79)
Intestines and chicken necks - 390 LKR ($2.18) - Next we stopped to eat intestines and tripe, and chicken necks. All of it was pretty tasty, my kind of snack.
Brains - 660 LKR ($3.68) - Next up on this Sri Lankan street food tour, we had a huge bite of brains, all of us.
Galle Face - Finally, to end this Sri Lankan food tour, we headed to the most iconic area of Colombo - Galle Face. In the evening you’ll find food vendors setting up, selling snacks and quick meals. Isso Vadai - 200 LKR ($1.12) - are fried little fritters of shrimp and crab, and it’s something you’ve got to try. I ended with special kottu roti - 600 LKR ($3.35).
It was a great time of eating Sri Lankan food. Special thank you to Ruzaina for taking me around:

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - Sri Lankan food is known for crabs, and you’ll find some of the best mud crabs you’ll ever try in Sri Lanka. One of the top places to eat Sri Lankan crab curry is The Station, a seafood restaurant and bar along the ocean in Colombo. During out best of Sri Lankan food tour ( this was the first meal we had, and it was outstanding.
I met up with Uchith ( Nick ( and Lakki ( who showed me the restaurant and took me to the kitchen to watch as they made their entire family recipe for Sri Lankan crab curry, using huge 1.5 kg. Sri Lankan mud crabs. It was fascinating and a learning experiences to watch all the different steps and the complicated ingredients used in their recipe.
As I kept watching the Sri Lankan crab curry being made, I could hardly contain my excitement or mouth juices!
Our entire group came, and they started bringing out more dishes - not just the Sri Lankan crab curry, but river prawns fried in black pepper, and spiny lobster hollowed out and re-added to its shell. It was stunningly good. Along with Sri Lankan food, The Station also has a few of their own unique, Sri Lankan fusion seafood dishes, including favorites like hot butter squid.
Sri Lankan crab curry - we had one pan of their original Sri Lankan family recipe crab curry, and one pan of their extra spicy crab curry. Both were outstanding, but I loved the original for the spice blend and balance and how all the juices soaked up into the crab, it was outstanding.
The Sri Lankan food and crab curry was outstanding, the people, our entire group, and the owners of The Station are incredible people as well. Thank you to The Station, Nick, Uchitch and Lakki.

Nelum Kole Restaurant - To begin the day we started off at Nelum Kole Restaurant, a Sri Lankan food restaurant serving a massive buffet of different Sri Lankan food dishes. Overall, the food was good, but not the best Sri Lankan food I had. Flavors tasted too similar to each other. It is a good place to taste variety though.
Dilmah Tea Lounge - After lunch we headed to a Dilmah Tea Lounge and drank a few teas all of which were very good.
Ministry of Crab - Rated as one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, Ministry of Crab is one of the most iconic restaurant serving seafood and especially Sri Lankan crabs in Colombo. It’s a high end restaurant, with prices that go with it, but I do have to admit that it was extremely tasty. The river shrimp, the black pepper crab was delicious. Price - about 30,000 LKR ($165.53) per OMG crab - I think it’s overpriced - but it is good.
