Lower Lakes - Plitvice Lakes National Park - Day 10 Croatia Summer Road Trip || PartTimeWanderlust
Day 10
Our second of two days in Plitvice Lakes National Park - we spent the whole day exploring the lower lakes. We walked for a couple of hours and came across some cool wildlife before stopping off for lunch and then continued onto the main event – Veliki Slap (the largest waterfall of the park). For some reason it doesn’t as look as large on camera as it does in real life so even more reason to see it in person!!
We are travelling from Dubrovnik to Zagreb via Split, Zadar and various national parks on the way! I hope you enjoy the vlogs – please like and subscribe to keep up-to-date!

BUS BOOKINGS:
There are conflicting opinions on the internet on whether to purchase bus tickets online due to validation issues with the bus drivers. We didn't have any issue at all during our trips - just check with the ticket counter upon arrival if any bus station fee has to be paid before boarding the bus.

WE LOVE SINGAPORE
Since we are a travel channel, here's some facts from our (very small) part of the world - the sunny island of Singapore!
1. Singapore is not in China - we lie on the equator with an average humidity of 80%.
2. Singapore's original land mass was 581.5 sq km, expanded by reclamation to 721.5 sq km as it is today.
3. We have a population of 5.8 million.
4. We are a multi-racial country with 76.1% Chinese, 15% Malay, 7.4% Indian, 1.5% Others (2016 est.)
5. Singapore emerged as the world's safest country in the 2018 Gallup's survey.
6. Singapore's Changi Airport won the title of the world's best airport, sixth year in a row, in Skytrax World Airport Awards 2018.
7. Singapore is the most expensive city in the world, fourth year in a row, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's annual Worldwide Cost of Living survey, 2017.
8. Singapore is famously (or infamously) known to be a very clean and fine city, where chewing gums are banned.
9. Singapore captured the world's attention recently in June 2018 when we hosted the Trump-Kim summit

This is a beautiful place with fabulous views. Boardwalks circle one of the lakes to a large waterfall.
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
Plitviče Lakes National Park is a 295-sq.-km forest reserve in central Croatia. It's known for a chain of 16 terraced lakes, joined by waterfalls, that extend into a limestone canyon. Walkways and hiking trails wind around and across the water, and an electric boat links the 12 upper and 4 lower lakes. The latter are the site of Veliki Slap, a 78m-high waterfall.

Tips
1)Buy your ticket online so that you will know what bus company . We bought from one of the counters and it wasn't even written any name.
2) only entrance 1 is opened in winter
3) Buy only one way ticket first, buy the return ticket on your way back from the bus driver
4) Check return bus timing, the frequency is about every hour or sometimes less
5) Check weather before you go
6) Bring water and snacks
7) If the park is crowded, make sure you queue early for the ferry. the boat is small and only limited people can ride.
8) Check from the information counter about the bus and boat availability and frequency
9) We saw people going to the lower lakes , waterfall areas, BUT it is not advisable and ONLY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

About Plitvice Lakes National Park
Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. With its exceptional natural beauty, this area has always attracted nature lovers, and already on 8 April 1949, it was proclaimed Croatia’s first national park.
The process of tufa formation, which results in the building of the tufa, or travertine, barriers and resulted in the creation of the lakes, is the outstanding universal value, for which the Plitvice Lakes were internationally recognised on 26 October 1979 with their inscription onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The park is primarily covered in forest vegetation, with smaller areas under grasslands. The most attractive part of the park – the lakes – cover just under 1% of the total park area.
The lake system is comprised of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next. Due to the geological substrate and characteristic hydrogeological conditions, the lake system has been divided into the Upper and Lower lakes.

PLITVICE LAKES National Park Croatia (2)
➤ “Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatian: Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera, colloquial Plitvice) is one of the oldest and the largest national park in Croatia. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.
The national park was founded in 1949 and is situated in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The important north-south road connection, which passes through the national park area, connects the Croatian inland with the Adriatic coastal region.
The national park is world-famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. Currently, 16 lakes can be seen from the surface. These lakes are a result of the confluence of several small rivers and subterranean karst rivers. The lakes are all interconnected and follow the water flow. They are separated by natural dams of travertine, which is deposited by the action of moss, algae, and bacteria. The particularly sensitive travertine barriers are the result of an interplay between water, air and plants. The encrusted plants and bacteria accumulate on top of each other, forming travertine barriers which grow at the rate of about 1 cm (0.4 in) per year.
The sixteen lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains, descending from an altitude of 636 to 503 m (2,087 to 1,650 ft) over a distance of some eight km, aligned in a south-north direction. The lakes collectively cover an area of about two square kilometers (0.77 square miles), with the water exiting from the lowest lake forming the Korana River.
The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight.
Through different climatic influences and the large difference in elevation within the protected area, a multifaceted flora and fauna have been created. The national park area is home to many endemic species. Those species that prevailed at the lakes before the arrival of man still exist.”

Plitvička Jezera (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Plitvička Jezera in Croatia.
Hidden within the densely wooded mountain region of Mala Kapela is Croatia’s most famous natural landmark, the Plitvička Jezera Nature Park, a land of cascading lakes. It is a well-protected natural environment which developed in travertin synclines, a world of water and exceptional plant life. Caves such as the Šupljara Cave, situated within a ravine at Lower Lake were created many thousands of years ago. Erosion and corrosion in the karst caused cracks in the limestone layer and gradually carved out its wide limestone ravine. For seven kilometres sixteen lakes have formed within a gorge, similar to the links of a chain, and connected by various cascades and waterfalls. It is a strange area, full of mystique and for centuries, long forgotten, a no-man's-land of wonderful nature. There are the Upper and Lower Lakes. They differ not only in their location but particularly in their geological features. The Upper Lakes are located on a Dolomit base which forms the typical features of stream dolines and wooded subsidence whereas, in contrast, the Lower Lakes are situated within rocky limestone. Kozjak Lake is more than two kilometres long and stretches in a north-south direction framed by dense forests which extend to the shores of the lake. There are no footpaths, only tranquil boat trips that take travellers to the Lower Lakes. Depending on the quantity of available water, the white foam of the magnificent Veliki Slap Waterfall and its rushing waters produces a swirling mist created by millions of water droplets as onlookers enjoy the soothing drizzle. A constantly changing landscape, the Plitvice Lakes are a true miracle of nature.
