Tornado blows through a pretty little station 05 Jul 2013
A1 Locomotive Trust Ltd A1 Class No: 60163 Tornado, in BR Blue livery, breezes through SAT trying to recover time on a beautiful sunny hot early Summer morning as it heads the Down SD Cathedral's Express from LEW to SAL on the Down NSWJ line more commonly called the NLL. Tornado got to WIJ South-West Sidings (the water-stop) 2 minutes late and left 5 minutes late. Tornado is heading for an overbridge that carries the London Underground District and Piccadilly Line trains over the freight only tracks.
It's Friday 5th July 2013 and what you see is the camera looking North towards ACC. Tornado comes into view with just the end of its whistle (the correct whistle not the A4 type) as it approaches the station. On the left is the original 1880 station building and canopy which is a pretty little building and still in use. Then Tornado passes me and heads over SAT Junction which is where the LO NLL Services swing towards RMD (to the left) whereas Tornado heads straight on onto the non-electrified track that heads towards Old Kew Junction where Tornado joins the SW Hounslow Loop Line. Tornado passed SAT at 11:57, 6 minutes late. This is my 1st film at this station.
Trivia time. This was the 45th Down main-line steam excursion of 2013 from the London area, 3 less than last year. This was 60163' 13th Down run from London in 2013, 6 more than last year. This is SD' 15th Down steam run from London in 2013, 4 less than last year. This is the 2nd Down steam special of 2013 to pass SAT, 2 less than last year.
SAT is a quiet commuter station in West London serving what was once a poor and run-down residential area with a lot of industry. There are still some workshops but the area has been regenerated with a lot of new housing and becoming more expensive. There are 2 Platforms serving SAT. Platform 1 receives Down LO electric trains heading for RMD. Platform 2 receives Up LO electric trains heading for SRA. In the hour between 11:22 and 12:22 there were scheduled 5 Down trains and 5 Up trains. Of the 5 Down trains 1 was through and 4 stopped. The 1 through train was bound for SAL (1SD). The 4 stopping trains were for RMD (4LO). The 5 Up trains were 1 through and 4 stopping. The 1 through train was to Wool (1Freight). The 4 stopping trains were all bound for SRA (4LO).
The N&SWJ opened the line past the site of what was to be SAT on 15-Feb-1853. The line was built to link the LNWR WCML at WIJ and the LSWR Hounslow Loop at New Kew Junction (still exists and is between KWB and BFD. On 01-Jan-1869 SAT Junction was created when the Joint company built the line to RMD. The reason SAT was opened was because of a little known branch line (called the Hammersmith & Chiswick Railway) which was opened on 01-May-1857. The junction was North of SAT and ran to Hammersmith. The idea was that service trains on the N&SWJ would interchange with the branch line. SAT prospered but the branch didn't and the Hammersmith & Chiswick closed to passengers on 01-Jan-1917. By then the NLR trains from London-Broad Street were electric trains using a 4th rail system. Electric trains started to run on 01-Oct-1916. On 01-Jan-1923 the N&SWJ was vested in a joint company owned by the LMSR and SR. On 01-Jan-1948 the Joint Company was vested into BR. Steam at SAT had gone by 1967. In Aug-1970 the middle electric rail was removed from the NLL. In Sep-1997 the train services were privatised and the electric trains were now run by a company called Silver Link. In 2007 the services at SAT became part of TfL and were run by a franchise called LO and have been ever since.
Hope you enjoy and please comment.

FRANCE: PARIS: SCOTS & BRAZILIAN SOCCER FANS GET IN THE PARTY SPIRIT
English/Nat
Football fever is heating up on the streets of Paris.
Only hours away from the opening of the World Cup soccer tournament both Scottish and Brazilian supporters have been drinking and dancing together.
These fervent football fans have been trawling Parisian cafes and bars to indulge in friendly rivalry.
On the eve of the opening of the World Cup in Paris and a few hours before the beginning of the Fete du Football, supporters from both sides of the world gathered to rejoice in the streets.
Some of the South American and Scottish fans who reached the capital huddled on the most famous Parisian street - the Champ Elysees - to sing and make merry.
This Brazilian dancer encouraged Scottish and Brazilian supporters to join in with the Latin festivities.
Thousands of young people have invaded the town, some with tickets some without, but just enjoying the atmosphere.
UPSOT: (English)
I haven't even got a ticket... oh, but he has.
SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop, Supporter
There are only a few cars left on the Champs Elysees, the traffic being stopped in the centre of Paris to let the giant arrive to the Place de la Concorde on Tuesday night.

37685 departs Strathcarron - 13th June 2012
After being despatched to Keith to replace 47237, 37685 worked 1H80 to Kyle on June 12th, the first time a single class 37 has worked the Royal Scotsman to Kyle in a good few years.
The same machine worked back, the following day, on 1H81 - 08:45 Kyle to Carrbridge and seemed to be having no problems here, leaving Strathcarron on time and approaching the crossing at Blackwood.
