The Old Saltwood Tunnel 22 July 2017 pt 1
This 85m tunnel is on the dismantled railway between Sandling Station and Saltwood in Kent, England.
It formed part of the Sandgate branch, which was a three mile long railway branch line that ran from Sandling railway station in Kent on the South Eastern Main Line to Hythe and Sandgate railway stations. It opened in 1874, was closed briefly between 1943 and 1945 and reopened only for the last train to run between Hythe and Sandling on 3 December 1951.
Almost the entire route from Sandling to Hythe remains intact, but with no track, including cuttings and embankments but the cutting to the south of the tunnel has been partially infilled and is difficult to access.
Stories are told of plumes of steam being seen coming from the tunnel, as though the old engines are still running, and people have also spoken of sightings of a male figure lurking in the tunnels darkness.
It’s because of these tales that Ghost Connections have had this tunnel on our list of potential investigation locations for some time, so, with other team members unavailable this night, Ian and Graham decided to go and have look for ourselves, this is what happened.
Part two to follow.

Windsor, England on a Rainy Day @ The Royal Oak - Meantime London Lager, W&E Knight of the Garter
MEANTIME LONDON LAGER
4.5% ABV
Meantime Brew Master, Alastair Hook, has spent 20 years planning the quintessential English lager. His reasoning is simple. The great European lager brewers use very soft water and neutral yeasts to ensure that only the flavours of their locally grown malt and hops come to the fore. East Anglia is home to the world’s finest malting barley and Kent is home to some of the world’s best hops. Midway between the two, London is ideally placed to bring them together in a straightforward, clean, long-matured, unpasteurised lager, where all you can taste is malt and hop.
FOOD PAIRING
The hops in Meantime London Lager enable it to stand up much better than most lagers to stronger flavours such as mature cheeses, hams and smoked meats, or oily fish.
WINDSOR & ETON BREWERY KNIGHT OF THE GARTER GOLDEN ALE
3.8% ABV
Originally launched in June to coincide with the annual Ceremony of the Garter held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. This beer quickly proved so popular that it is now a favourite throughout the year.
A flaxen-coloured, easy drinking Golden Ale, brewed with American Amarillo whole leaf hops giving a distinctive fresh citrus aroma reminiscent of cut grapefruit.
The badge design features the emblem used at the ceremony to honour the Knights awarded this exclusive accolade. Our very own Knightclub is a little easier to gain membership of but no less sought after and a lot more fun (see Knightclub tab).
Hythe Venetian Fete 2009
This year's Venetian Fete attracted record crowds to the banks of the town's Royal Military Canal, thanks to some glorious sunshine. The biennial event can trace its history back to 1860 and features a daylight and night time parade of decorated floats, with a fireworks display inbetween. Yourkenttv spoke to one of the fete's organisers Stuart Weller and some of the colourful characters and designers behind the various boats on display. For more go to yourkenttv.co.uk

What Is This? Secret Tunnel? Hythe Kent Military Canal
Does anyone know what this was for? I spotted a strange brick entrance along the bank of the Royal Military Canal, Hythe, Kent, UK. I've been told that it might have been the entrance to a tunnel that went under the Military Road and stretched as far as where the Sainsbury's store is now. It's possible that it might have been something to do with the old Small Arms School and/or Mackeson's brewery. Please comment if you know anything, thank you!

See the original Hythe tramway plaque before it's built over. A horse driven tramway service was operated from Sandgate to Red Lion Square, Hythe (Kent), between 1894 to 1921. I normally narrate my videos but I thought I'd do a silent one this time.
