Kayaking 2 day trip - Leigh to East Peckham
2 day Kayak trip up the River medway, from Leigh to East Peckham.
Roughly 10 miles each way, with stop over in some woods listening to stealth Tonstar try not to be quiet or was it loud?!
Going to East Peckham wasn't too hard with the run offs at the locks for the canoes and kayaks to do, but then Tonstar decided that he wanted to try and find us a good camping spot down a ditch that the fields use as a run off. Proper stinky green water, and about 15mins in, it went from 6ft wide to 4ft wide and Tony was in a sea kayak! So i had to tow him out backwards and back to the main river!
But it was fun! I did my first river swim and panic'd haha, but it was good and i cant wait for the next one!
Thanks for watching!

Doreen Golding, who lives in Wanstead, is proud to be a Pearly Queen. Raising the profile of the Pearlies is crucial to their longevity and Doreen is quick to remind people their aim is raising money for charity.
In this film she recalls rubbing shoulders with Elton John and meeting the queen. She has endless stories of meeting celebrities.
1000 LONDONERS
This film is part of 1000 Londoners, a five-year digital project which aims to create a digital portrait of a city through 1000 of the people who identify themselves with it. The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions about their views on London life. I'm Doreen, I'm Pearly Queen of Old Kent Road. That's my late husband's title, born South of the River, and I am by my own right a Pearly Queen of Bow Bells.
-Would you tell me a little bit about the, err, the pictures?
Oh right, well the famous wall of pictures really started just from the one photograph. You can only just see my profile there. The Duke of Edinburgh with my late husband, Ian McKellen, Michael Caine at a variety club event, Elton John's birthday party. It was absolutely terrific. I did leave the Pearly King tapdancing with Kate Moss. I think the last thing they were doing was tapdancing and singing to I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts.
*Britons never ever ever will be slaves*
Right so that's err This Morning, isn't it, This Morning the programme. Invited in the morning and it was, they were interviewing a gentleman who all his life had been alergic to buttons. So they had a psychiatrist talk to this man for half an hour and he was miraculously cured. He seemed to be fine in fact the first thing he wanted to do was wear the Pearly King's hat.
*ringing*
Yes Chris. I've got a young man here taking some photos, so he's going to come with us to Cheshire Street and photograph us all, and if he behaves himself he can have a salt beef beigel. All right see you half ten. Okay, bye!
Hello dear!
And actually there was no traffic today.
-Hello Ladies
Ladies and gentlemen, the man over there has come with me today... these are all my kings, I have to ay sicne my king passed away and the other gentleman there is quite poorly now, so I have a selection of kings.
It's very hard thing for people to understand that we don't earn any money out of it, that we do it because we want to put something back into the community. And it is nice to put your buttons on as we say, put on our work uniform, go out...
-Take your time girl we don't mind!
...and know that we are the original cockney Londoners... and nice to be with our friends as well and doing a good job at the same time.

From
Sunday April 15th Charter Run
With Spring time now in sight its time to look ahead to our opening ride of the year... our CHARTER RUN starting from our traditional meeting point in Greenwich park.
This year it will be in the form of a looping ride around the kent highways and byways finishing in the heart of the kent countryside at the BUSH,BLACKBIRD AND THRUSH in East Peckham where Anna & Monty will take care of all your refreshment needs with great home cooking and fine cask ales.(peckhambush.com/ ). There is a large garden at the rear of the hostelry for us to park and relax after ride and may even be some live entertainment.
The pub is situated just off of the main road with very easy access to main roads and motorways (less than 10 mins) ensuring you a quick and easy journey homeward.
As said earlier our meeting point will be Greenwich park at 9-30am.... please be early as being the first ride of the year there is a bit of paperwork to do getting signed in and your rider indemnity forms sorted... hopefully the Road Captains will have copies of the forms so please track one of them down as soon as you can on arrival and we can get this out of the way quickly. At approx 10-00am we will have our ride briefing allowing us to leave by 10-15/30.
We will head out from the park through Greenwich village and across through Lee and past the Warr's dealership before heading off into the countryside avoiding the main roads as much as possible keeping the ride as relaxed as we can. We will then head south eastward to our comfort break at the Maidstone services where we will have plenty of time to catch up with friends old and new relax over a nice cup of coffee.
the second half of our journey will take us on a loop through the countryside via Headcorn, biddenden, Goudhurst, Matfield and Paddock wood before arrival in East Peckham and our destination the BUSH, BLACKBIRD AND THRUSH...
So come and join us on our relaxing opening ride and blow away a few of those winter cobwebs.
