Yesterday was the second day of the Army Tattoo organised to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Army. Army Chief Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya declared open the Tattoo yesterday.
The Sri Lanka Army was established on 10th October 1949. In addition to the exhibition at the BMICH, the Army extravaganza staged at the Kettarama Stadium will continue until Friday the 23rd.
A highlight was the Parachute pageant presented by Army Commandos and Special Forces. There was a high response to the drill display presented by several Regiments. Thrilling feats of the dogs trained to sniff explosives added special colour.
Model simulation attacks on Pudumathalan, the final battleground that brought to end terrorism and enacting of an offensive, meant to rescue soldiers from the enemy in the Tattoo drew exceptional attention of the spectators. Assembling of jeeps, artillery guns and cars and construction of bridges in record time, in addition to motor cycling feats, musical bands and fireworks were among the other highlights of the mega show. It is being staged for six hours. A notable feature was the presence of Military representatives from South Asian countries such as India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
