We finally tackle CAEN HILL FLIGHT on Devizes Canal! Basically LOTS of locks!
A year ago we didn't plan on moving this far this soon in our widebeam canalboat because our cruising pattern didn't require us to. As liveaboards, the terms set out by the Canal & River Trust require you to move 20miles in 1 direction each year, staying a maximum of 14days at each mooring, a minimum of 1km apart...make sense? Took us a while to get our heads around too haha!
Because of the girls school we didn't need to move much further past Hilperton (Trowbridge) but as we took them out of school in April then we no longer had the ties so why wouldn't we tackle the historical Caen Hill Flight in our Sailaway?
Check out how we got on. Typically it wasn't without it's 'moments', or hours should i say!!!
Please pop a thumbs up, subscribe, share and all that shizzle :)
Thanks for your support as always!

I've lived afloat for a year now and have travelled over a 1000 miles on the British canals and rivers. I take my dog Molly for a walk along the Coventry canal and discuss the highs and lows of living on a boat as well as running costs and if I'd do anything differently.

Time-Lapse - Narrow boat journey,Bagnall Lock to Tatenhill
Time-Lapse Narrow boat journey - Bagnall Lock to Tatenhill in Staffordshire.
This video is made from 778 individual photographs taken from a digital camera mounted near the front of a narrow boat. Frames are taken every 10 to 20 seconds (depending on whats happening).
The shutter being controlled by a homemade trigger which allows me to take a shot any time between 3 secs and 3 mins.
Details of the journey from Bagnall Lock to Tatenhill.
The journey starts in Bagnall Lock, Alrewas, on the Trent & Mersey Canal, and travels through the village of Alrewas to Alrewas Lock. Once through the lock the River Trent can be seen flowing in from the left and leaving on the right over a weir protected by a large boom. The black and white bridges on the left carry the towpath over the river and surrounding water meadows.
At Wychnor Lock the A38 joins the canal on the right hand side. The large brick building, which actually stands against the south bound carriage way of the A38, was once an old coaching inn, the Flitch of Bacon, the towpath crosses bridge 43 to run on the right of the canal. Glimpses of the large road signs can be seen on this section of canal along with traffic speeding by.
The entrance to the large Barton Turns Marina is reached on the left closely followed by Barton Lock with the Barton Turns public house on the right. The building to the left below the lock was built about the same time as the canal and was at one time The Navigation Coffee House.
The A38 leaves the canal just before bridge 36. This very narrow bridge is also where the towpath briefly rejoins the left hand side of the canal. There is a large gravel works over the towpath hedge, the area around here
once being a hive of activity with gravel pits both sides of the canal. Most of these pits are now filled with water and used as nature reserves, the largest being Branston Water Park.
Hope you enjoy
