WESTGATE PARK MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA PT 2
(Westgate Park) is a nature sanctuary located in the heart of industrial Melbourne. Having undergone many transformations before emerging as one of Melbourne’s most visible parks, Westgate Park is a vibrant example of how a wasteland can become a flourishing ecological and recreational wetland environment. Westgate Park offers a range of attractions and activities, located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River under the Westgate Bridge; the park offers spectacular views to the mouth of the Yarra and the city skyline. Enjoy a picnic lunch with friends or family or cycle along the Yarra River or the Port Melbourne foreshore. The healthy bird population also attracts bird watching enthusiasts. Barbecues and picnic areas are free and available for shared use. Westgate Park is located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River, under the Westgate Bridge. Access is via Todd Rd or near the end of Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne.
Algae growing in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake produces the red pigment (beta carotene) as part of its photosynthesis process and in response to the extremely high salt levels
(WEST GATE PARK) MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA PT 1
The (West Gate Bridge) is a steel box girder cable-stayed bridge in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It spans the Yarra River, just north of its mouth into Port Phillip, and is a vital link between the inner city (CBD) and Melbourne's western suburbs; with the industrial suburbs in the west and with the city of Geelong, 80 kilometres (50 mi) to the south-west. It is one of the busiest road corridors in Australia.
The main river span is 336 metres (1,102 ft) in length, and the height above the water is 58 metres. The total length of the bridge is 2,582.6 metres (8,473.1 ft). It is the third longest in Australia behind the 3.2 kilometre Macleay River Bridge and the Houghton Highway along with its twin the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge, with the longest being Melbourne’s Bolte Bridge at 5 kilometres. It is twice as long as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and is one of the highest bridges in Australia, most notably trailing the more iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The bridge passes over Westgate Park, a large environmental and recreational reserve created during the bridge's construction. The bridge carries up to 200,000 vehicles per day. ( source wikipedia)
