The Merchants House Marlborough Wiltshire.
On the north side of Marlborough high street is the Merchant's House, which is currently under restoration but part of which is open to the public for guided tours. The house was built following the Great Fire of 1653. It was the property of a silk merchant and, rarely for a house of this type in a town centre, still retains its original room pattern. Notable are the wall paintings recently uncovered, which are undergoing conservation. One room painted in a striped pattern, copying silk hangings, is perhaps unique in Great Britain.

Marlborough Mop Fairs 1992 - A film by Ian Philpott
This 52 minute film takes a good look at Marlborough’s Mop Fairs of 1992. You will also see lots of once familiar faces. If you recognize anyone, please do leave a comment below.
These annual events are among Britain’s oldest fairs and are held by Royal Charter granted to the town in 1204. They take place in the magnificent arena of Marlborough High Street and began as an event where goods could be sold or bartered. By the 19th Century, the Mops had evolved into hiring fair, which was then held twice a year. At the beginning of the 19th Century, hiring had all but died out and was replaced by early forms of the types of entertainments we see today. Whatever form they take, Marlborough’s Mops continue to be one of the few occasions during the year when the majority of townsfolk together in one place.
I hope you enjoy it.
ABANDONED Tottenham House Part 1
Part 1 of my series in Wiltshire. Tottenham House is a beauty. That is all I can say.
ABANDONED Tottenham House Part 2
The long awaited sequel to my video of Tottenham House in Wiltshire.
I went back down to Tottenham one Sunday morning to explore the mansion properly. The first time I only got a small amount done because I was on a tight schedule (train times etc). This time I explored it as much as I could and found a photo from 1959 which turned out to be GreenerHill's mother! A VERY small world here indeed.
Anyway, enough boring text. Please watch and enjoy the video :)

Anne, Queen of Great Britain
Anne (6 February 1665 – 1 August 1714) became Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland on 8 March 1702. On 1 May 1707, under the Acts of Union, two of her realms, the kingdoms of England and Scotland, united as a single sovereign state, the Kingdom of Great Britain. She continued to reign as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland until her death.
Anne was born in the reign of her uncle Charles II, who had no legitimate children. Her father, James, was first in line to the throne. His Catholicism was unpopular in England and on Charles's instructions Anne was raised as a Protestant. Three years after he succeeded Charles, James was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Anne's Protestant brother-in-law and cousin William III became joint monarch with his wife, Anne's elder sister Mary II. Although the sisters had been close, disagreements over Anne's finances, status and choice of acquaintances arose shortly after Mary's accession and they became estranged. William and Mary had no children. After Mary's death in 1694, William continued as sole monarch until he was succeeded by Anne upon his death in 1702.
