China car maker snaps up Volvo

A growing middle class in China has increased the demand for cars in the world's most populous country.
China has several home-grown automakers, but most lack the quality or safety records of more established foreign brands.
In an effort to leapfrog the competition, Geely, one of China's largest carmakers, has bought a majority share in the Swedish car firm Volvo for what analysts say is the bargain price of just under $2bn.

Driving in China Highway 6X G1,S26 From Huludao to Jianchang 葫芦岛至建昌
Use Google Translate below
The trip is via G1 BeiJing-Haerbing Expressway and S26 Xingcheng-Jianchang Expressway, with a total length of 94.1 kilometers, all located in Huludao City, Liaoning Province. The G1 road has a mileage of 11 kilometers and the S26 mileage is 83.1 kilometers. The S26 is a high-speed expressway built in the western mountainous area of Huludao City. It is an inter-provincial expressway connecting Huludao City and Jianchang County under its jurisdiction. There are more corners and the speed limit is 80 km/h.
All kinds of vehicles on the G1 road are as good as ever, and the S26 vehicles are scarce. The surrounding scenery is typical of the hilly landforms of western Liaoning, with few plantings and arid drought.
Due to the short length of the highway, it is very fast to travel, the time is about 56 minutes.

NK Seeks Help?

North Korean (NK) leader Kim Jong Il visited China,
during the summit of China, Japan and South Korea.
It is rare for Kim Jong Il to visit China three times
within a year. An outsider' analysis pointed out
that this indicates NK's seeking of help from China,
so NK would not face political and economic
difficulties at home and isolation internationally.
South Korean media reported that on May 20,
Kim Jong Il arrived in Yanbian Jilin by train,
via Mudanjiang and Changchun. He visited
the Changchun First Automobile on May 21.
It is learned that this company would invest in NK.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told Lee Myung-bak,
South Korean President on May 22 in Tokyo,
that the purpose of Kim's visit is to understand
China's development and thus gain a reference.
After a 29-hour train ride, Kim Jong Il arrived
at Yangzhou, Jiangsu. Kim visited a supermarket
and a solar technology company.
On May 24, he arrived at Nanking and visited
the Panda Electronics, Olympic Stadium
and the World Museum. In the afternoon,
he went to Beijing and talked with Chinese leaders.
North Korea lacks energy, food and essential raw
materials and also suffers under the United Nations'
sanction due to its nuclear program.
Voice of America pointed out on May 23,
that China was concerned with NK's refugees rush
if NK would collapse due to economic catastrophe.
The South Korean presidential spokesman referred
to Kim's visit as an educational trip.
Analysts in Japan said that Kim's China visit
was an embarrassing request for assistance
from China to solve food shortage crisis in NK.
Wang Weizheng, a Professor of Political Science,
at the University of Richmond:
N. Korea is probably facing economy hardships.
Although a few years ago it voiced out that it wants
to imitate China's reform and opening up policies.
I think he wants to learn something from China.
According to Yonhap, in South Korea was held
a Seminar on food aid to North Korea..
Claudia von Roehl from the World Food Program
said on behalf of North Korea that due to reduction
of food production and international assistance,
6 million Koreans will suffer from food shortages.
Robert King, U.S. State Department's
NK human rights envoy, visited NK on May 24,
to assess the situation of food shortages there
and also to raise the issue with NKs' human rights.
Based on the assessment, Korea and the U.S.
will decide if food aid programs can restart in NK.
Due to the Cheonan and Yin Ping Island incidents
last year Korea and the U.S. completely cut off aids
to North Korea. Under this situation, Chosun Ilbo
of South Korea reported that Kim's brother-in-law
Jang visited Jilin Province in May and signed
a lease of the Golden Plain at the downstream
of Yalu River to China for 100 years.
Su Zhan (Economics' Professor, University of Laval,
Canada): setting up special administrative regions
but it needed an institutional reform. NK is facing
two major political issues today, one is the tension
in East Asia, in particular a series of moves by NK,
the other is a question of its inheritance.
Yonhap reported that in 2009 North Korea amended
the constitution and the word communism
was replaced by military-first ideology.
Last September, Kim Jong Il extended
the hereditary dictatorship further and established
27-year-old Kim Zhengen (his third son) as his heir.
And Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported:
After being confirmed as the heir, Kim Zhengen
frequently published his remarks about economy
such as 'In the past, we could tolerate no food,
but not without bullets, now we can tolerate
no bullets but not without food'. He also said:
'All civilians will have rice and meat
within three years'.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stressed at the summit
on May 22, that through dialogues tensions between
North and South Korea could be eased,
but he too is opposing a nuclear North Korea.
The Korean nuclear issue was raised again
during the US-China summit early this year.
Then leaders from US, Japan and Korea agreed,
that denuclearization of the Korean peninsula
will greatly promote peace and stability
in Northeast Asia. An outsider pointed out
that North Korea's nuclear program is actually
a scheme between China and North Korea
to blackmail the international community.

China's November CPI Eases to 4.2%
Follow us on TWITTER:
Like us on FACEBOOK:
China's consumer price index (CPI) growth rate eased to 4.2%
year-on-year in November, which is lower than October's 5.5%, and is the lowest in 14 months.
Some analysts said the November inflation rate had dropped
significantly, reaching a lower level than expected,
giving space for decision-makers to change the monetary policy.
But experts and others questioned the truth of the data.
Beijing National Bureau of Statistics released the news on Dec. 9
that compared with the past year, November's CPI rose 4.2%.
Within it, food prices rose 8.8%, consumer prices rose 5.0%,
service prices rose 2.4%.
In the first 11 months of this year, the average monthly CPI increased by 5.5%.
November's CPI rising rate is the lowest in the last 14 months.
Wall Street Journal did an online survey which showed that
87% of Chinese netizens didn't feel that the cost of living had decreased.
Netizens said on Strong Nation Forum: The price of
vegetables has increased sharply.
Only certain foods have decreased in some areas for example
cabbage in Shandong province, potato in Inner Mongolia.
Has there been any other price decrease?
Food prices have increased very quickly,
that is something that people can feel in their daily lives .
Cao'an Jushi, an economic commentator told NTD, the Chinese
government doesn't dare to publish the real inflation data.
Cao'an Jushi:Two explanations by CCP are actually
self-deceiving.
In fact, the inflation is much more serious than the CPI that
the CCP has published.
In the third quarter, China's GDP was said to have increased
by 22%, but actually it's about 6%. So, the real inflation in China is about 16%.
China 's November manufacturing Purchasing Managers'
Index (PMI) fell below the critical point.
The newest data shows that the November industry and
investment has continued to slow down.
All of these figures show that the Chinese economy
is cooling down with inside and outside factors.
However, Reuters has quoted an analyst's view that this
cooling is a result of policy active control which can be expected.
Consumption increase in Nov. shows domestic demand is
stable, which is important for the Chinese economy to remain steady, and to avoid a hard landing.
The has BBC said that, many analysts have estimated that ensuring growth
is the first priority of Chinese government.
After reducing the deposit reserve ratio, China central bank is likely to take
more relaxed policies in the next few weeks.
Cao Yuanzheng, chief economist of Bank of China thinks that,
there's still a big risk that the Chinese economy will have a hard landing, and that the price level will not decline.
So, the monetary policy will be based on stabilizing next year,
and it's possible that there will be some light adjustment in some parts.
Lu Bingyang, the deputy director of Finance & Tax Institute,
at the China Renmin University pointed out that
the main reason for the Chinese economy's imbalance is
the government's fiscal expansion policy.
It set up a commodity - based tax system in which people
don't dare to spend, as well as an income distribution which benefits the government and state-owned enterprises.
Feng Xingyuan, the deputy director of Beijing Tianze Economic
Institute told NTD that
the policy had created the phenomenon of state-owned
businesses expanding and the private sector shrinking ,
which in turn blocks the transformation of
the economy's growth mode.
Feng Xingyuan: If monetary policy is to be more stable,
It be better to loosen credit control a little.
The key is that the Chinese government's fiscal spending
has expanded too much.
Then, overall there is a need for the government to reduce
control, or even to apply tax decreasing.
There is need for a universal competition policy,
rather than continuous engagement in industrial policy,
which means that there is a need to improve the competitive
and living environment.
The most important Central Economic Work Conference will
be held soon, and experts are expecting that
the steady tone of monetary policy will continue next year,
and that the economic focus will be on steady economic growth, curbing inflation and structural adjustment.

BEIJING:
Day 1 - Audi Q3 Trans China Tour 2011
The wheels aren't yet turning. For now, the Audi Q3s are still sitting on the launching pad in the heart of Beijing -- the vibrant, noisy and dynamic centre of this big capital full of bright, sparkling lights. Early tomorrow, the starter will drop the green flag and the 20 samoa orange Q3s will set out on their 5,700-kilometers trip across China. The task that lies ahead of them is not for the fainthearted and some drivers are beginning to feel a bit uneasy. Everyone knows that traffic here is a completely different kettle of fish than traffic at home in the western hemisphere. Whatever traffic regulations may -- or may not -- be in force, they are observed at best sporadically. Driving in Beijing means, first and foremost, a constant struggle to move up one or two cars in the perpetual traffic jams.
Chinese artists like to work on a large scale and display it in the art district, 798. Perhaps this young man is afraid of the gigantic clay ape?
The participants -- journalists from Germany, France, Austria, Luxembourg, Sweden, Singapore and the Middle East -- have spent the last two days in China, where they first visited Audi's latest, state-of-the-art production facility before flying to Beijing. On their trip from the airport to the central business district, the group passed historic sites and monuments as well as brand-new neighbourhoods with dramatic skylines. The pace of development here is breathtaking - entire urban districts have shot up overnight and are waiting for their new residents. Everything seems to be in motion. There may be the occasional relic of the past, such as temples with pagoda roofs, ornamental garden parks and historic waterways. Yet despite that, the country always feels like it is rushing forward in the fast lane. Three thousand years running in fast forward mode; the future is already included.
That feeling is further reinforced by a visit to the artist's district, 798. The avant-garde of today's modern art is no longer found exclusively in New York or London -- Beijing is where the trends are set. In the galleries here, on the premises of a former metal factory, artists renowned across the globe showcase their work -- at prices that have also long since become globalised. And around and about it all, the streets teem with activity. Street painters, necklace vendors, families -- and many, many tourists from the West.
Beijing is a city that enamoured of superlatives. This includes the gigantic LED screen at the shopping and business temple The Place. On this high-tech baldachin towering high above the heads of visitors, 14.5 million LEDs deliver razor-sharp definition on a vast, 200 x 30 metre expanse. It is an impressive display, even for die-hard, western tech-nerds and the perfect choice for the tour's kick-off event. Tonight, the Audi Trans China Tour is really putting on a show: Below the mega-screen is the Audi Tour Terminal -- a shining, white modern-day pagoda, surrounded by the 20 vehicles taking part in the trip. Michael Dick, AUDI AG's chief of technical development, welcomed the participants to a country that is invariably fascinating and that keeps surprising us. Dick went on to say that as the world's biggest automotive market, China had become an important pillar in Audi's global growth strategy. The automobiles with the four rings have always been the leaders in China's premium market -- a position which Audi plans not only to defend, but to expand even further.
The new Audi Q3 will play a pivotal role in this. As of 2012, it will also be produced locally in Changchun. Expectations are high: In the last few years, the SUV market has not just grown, it has literally exploded. That means the Q3 is ideally positioned, especially for young, private buyers who appreciate design and quality. Over the next few days the Audi Q3's compatibility with China's roads will be put to the test, on the fancy boulevards of its metropolises as well as the rugged countryside. Tomorrow, the journey begins. The first stage goes from Beijing to Jinan -- 462 kilometres are waiting.
