Madagascar - Mitsinjo Reserve - René Krekels
René Krekels and Jap Smits visited Mitsinjo Reserve, a rainforst in Madagascar.
The guide Christin Nasoavina showed us all the wonders of his forest, run and protected by the local community.
Enjoy! and if you want to see the beautiful forest of Madagascar (and the Indir, thé largerst lemur), get in contact with Christin.
Diurnal Hike at Mitsinjo (Analamazoatra) Forest Station.
My first actual day (Excluding the travel day) into my trip to Madagascar whilst doing work at the Amphibian Survival Assurance Center of Andasibe (ASACA), a part of Association Mitsinjo.
After Work, I decided to go out into the reserve and see the wonders that are to be found in the forest, including Pygmy Leaf Chameleon (Brookesia superciliaris).

THINGS TO DO IN ANDASIBE ANALAMAZAOTRA, MADAGASCAR
See what to do in Andasibe / Analamazaotra, Madagascar. Watch the raw and unfiltered vlog of adventuring1.
Travel Notes:
- Filmed 18th-21st August 2017
- When you arrive at Ivato International Airport (Antananarivo), you will be hounded by a bevy of baggage porters. Do not feel obligated.
- In Antananarivo, we stayed at Hotel Relais de la Haute Ville. No complaints.
- Would not recommend walking around Haute Ville at night (not well lit). We were harassed and pick pocketed.
- Travelled between Antananarivo and Andasibe with Espace Mada Tours (Driver - Sheruf). Would recommend.
- Reserve Peyrieras was amazing, Chameleons right up close. You will see chameleons all over the place, but not with such variety in one spot. Had mixed feelings about some of the handling of the chameleons though.
- In Andasibe, we stayed in Analamazotra Hotel. Very unique pink huts.
- From what we could gather, the park area is split between two sections - Andasibe-Mantadia National Park and Analamazaotra Special Reserve.
- Andasibe-Mantadia National Park had very few people but the lemurs seemed harder to track down.
- Analamazaotra Special Reserve had indri lemur everywhere. There were more people here. See if you can ask your guide to track down some lemurs away from the crowds. Our guide, Daisy, was fantastic - he could make all manner of bird and lemur calls.
- Vakona Reserve was great in terms of the lemur interaction. However, I had mixed feelings about the fossa enclosure and the lemurs being stuck on the islands.
- Be sure to try Three Horses Beer, zebu steak and banana flambe.
- Madagascar is the home of vanilla - try to find some along the way.

Madagascar - Part 4 Isalo
Anja Park is more than a days drive south on Antananarivo. A further half day drive to the Isalo region is in the Mid South of Madagascar.
Anja Park is a community owned and operated reserve. Shadowed by great volcanic structures, Anja Park is a great place to see Ring Tailed Lemurs.
Isalo National Park is known for its canyons and sandstone formations. The Bara people, who inhabit the area, consider the Isalo National Park a sacred place.

Exploring Torotorofotsy Wetlands and Maromizaha Forest - Madagascar
Footage from Torotorofotsy wetlands, Maromizaha Forest, and Analamazaotra is included in this short video.
No, I am not a student at Auburn, but I am working with a wonderful team of researchers from Auburn.
The variety of life and uniqueness of organisms here continues to amaze me. Every time that I enter the forest, I see something new. With this being said, I can only imagine what this magnificent island was like in all of its glory before humans arrived. Today with estimates of over 90% of original forest cover gone, Madagascar's wildlife and natural ecosystems are in quite the pickle. There are great organizations working to conserve natural spaces, educate people, and create communities that value their forests. Association Mitsinjo is one such group. We have been working in their protected forest to evaluate how community conservation is effective. If you ever find yourself in Madagascar, make sure you are cognizant of your actions and who you are supporting, because it makes a huge difference!

Walk from Anja Reserve with its Ring-tailed Lemurs to Ambalavao, southern Madagascar
This was one of my favorite days in Madagascar. Anja Reserve is a delightful place to view ring-tailed lemurs in close range amongst the forests and sugarloaves. Then, the walk of approximately 12 kilometers from Anja Reserve to Ambalavao is a picturesque hike through rural villages and idyllic country scenery.

Madagascar: Andasibe, Analamazaotra, Mantadia and Antananarivo. How to travel around?
How to travel Madagascar? This is my last video about traveling around Madagascar. After leaving Mahambo and passing by Tamatave we arrived in Andasibe! Andasibe is a small town where you can visit two major national parks: Analamazaotra and Mantadia. A perfect place to experience wildlife and all kind of lemurs: black and white lemur, brown lemur, the indri etc. We also visited the Vakona forest lodge where you can actually touch lemurs. They will jump on you, you can pet them and everything. Andasibe is quite touristy, there are greater spots to visit but it is also a must do in Madagascar!
Some quick facts about Andasibe:
-you pay 45.000 Ariary/per person for every day you want to enter the national parks
-Mantadia: 70.000 Ariary guide fee
-Analamazaotra: 50.000 Ariary guide fee
-Vakona forest lodge: 25.000 Ariary per person
costs for the driver (gmt+3):
-400 Euros for the car + driver (8 days)
-146 Euros for the petrol
total costs for the whole trip around Madagascar for 15 days: €1.935 / $2.065 per person

A visit to the garden Madagascar Exotic
A Dutch travel group visited Madagascar in September/October 2015 for 6 weeks. We visited the garden Madagascar Exotric to see some native animals of Madagascar
Anja Reserve, Madagascar
Inter-group encounter- females tail wave and scent tails, which is a typical male behavior (i.e. stink fighting). This is the first time I've ever seen this! Wondering if other researchers have seen their female ring-tailed lemurs do this??
TRAVELING MADAGASCAR [HD] // Amazing backpacking trip incl. the famous Baobabs & Lemurs!
The fourth biggest island in the world is extremely diverse. No matter whether you prefer rainforests, mountains, beaches, African cultures or wildlife - Madagascar has it all! It also offers great trekking and camping options. In 2019 I spent five weeks there, mainly in the highlands, east and west. On my way I visited amazing places such as Manambolo river, Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, Kirindy Forest, Avenue des Baobabs, Morondava, Masoala National Park, Nosy Mangabe National Park, Toamasina, Canal des Pangalanes, Palmarium Reserve, Andasibe National Park, Mitsinjo Forest and Mantadia National Park. Check out our travel website where I show you the best places to visit and how to get there on a tight budget. Enjoy! [chris]

Expedice Madagaskar 2018 - den patnáctý - Ambalavao, rezervace Anja a cesta do Ranohira 27. září
Ubytujeme se, někdo si jde zaplavat do bazénu, dáme si mandlovicu a v 17:30 h vyjíždíme směr La Fenetre de Isalo, kde budeme pozorovat západ slunce.
Protecting the rainforests of Madagascar
Madagascar has unique nature and most of the species found in the island live only in Madagascar. In less than a hundred years the forest cover of Madagascar, one of the world's most important hotspots of biodiversity, has fallen dramatically. Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (FANC) helps the local people in protecting and restoring their forests. Film is made by volunteer workers. Read more: sll.fi/madagascar

Sademetsien suojelua Madagaskarilla
Madagaskarin upeissa sademetsissä elää tuhansittain lajeja, joita ei löydy mistään muualta. Saarivaltion metsät hupenevat kuitenkin nopeasti, ja jäljellä olevat metsät toimivat kotoperäisen lajiston viimeisenä turvapaikkana. Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto auttaa paikallisia järjestöjä sademetsien ennallistamisessa ja kartoituksessa. Dokumentti on toteutettu vapaaehtoistyönä. Lue lisää: sll.fi/madagaskar
