SHEFFIELD WALK | The Moor shopping street in Sheffield City Centre
A Sheffield City Centre walk up The Moor. The Moor is one of Sheffield's most notable pedestrianised shopping streets.

The Moor Quarter is one of Sheffield's twelve designated quarters, built around and named for The Moor, a pedestrianised thoroughfare. It is bound by Furnival Gate in the north-east, Eyre Street in the south-east, St Mary's Gate to the south, and Moore Street and Charter Row to the north-west.
It is primarily a retail location, with the city's main market now located in the quarter. There are also some offices at Charter Row and Moorfoot. It benefits from a good location, centrally between the Devonshire Quarter, Cultural Industries Quarter, Heart of the City and London Road and Ecclesall Road shops.
The monolithic Moorfoot Building is at the south-west end of the Moor. It previously housed central British government departments, but is now used by Sheffield City Council.
The Moor itself is a primary pedestrianised thoroughfare and one of the main shopping streets of Sheffield, England.
Along its length lie some of the most popular department stores and it is seen as one of the primary retail cores of the city centre.
The street was originally named Sheffield Moor, then in the early nineteenth century was renamed South Street, but was again renamed in order to avoid confusion with a South Street near Hyde Park.
The shops along it were rebuilt in the 1950s following damage in World War II and pedestrianised in 1979 with market stalls now occupying the former roadway.
The Moor stretches from Furnival Way, Moorhead to the north to Cumberland Way, Moorfoot to the south, where the former Moorfoot Building blocks the route on to London Road.
The major retailers on The Moor include Debenhams, Atkinsons (department store), Sainsbury's, Poundland and TJ Hughes. There are also numerous smaller units as well as open-air market stalls in the middle of the pedestrianised area.

Sheffield's Castle Market
Castle Market was an indoor market in the Castlegate area of Sheffield city centre. The oldest part of the building was the Fish and Vegetable Market, constructed in the inter-war period, extended by a major new building that opened in 1959. The Market closed in 2013 when the Moor Market opened and was demolished in 2015. Castle Market was built over the remains of Sheffield Castle which were later excavated. A video slideshow, by photographer Tim Dennell.

A short walk up The Moor in Sheffield to the steps of Sheffield Town Hall in Sheffield City Centre, Yorkshire, England.
Sheffield city centre is undergoing much development currently with a new retail and shopping quarter currently being built at the time of filming this walk (2018)
We start this short Sheffield City Centre walk at Moorfoot in front of the Manpower building there and head up and onto The Moor.
On the right of us is The Moor Markets, a new indoor market building designed to replace Sheaf Market and Castle Market at the other side of the city centre that was demolished for redevelopment there.
Outside the indoor market building are a number of outdoor market stalls of local Sheffield independent businesses all doing their thing.
Further up we see the new cinema and shopping complex that houses THE LIGHT CINEMA as well as retails shops underneath and bars and restaurants up on the first floor up the elevator.
As we reach the top end of the Moor on this walk through Sheffield City Centre we see Debenhams on the left which has been there many years, and on the right the latest stage of redevelopment in Sheffield due to happen.
Crossing over onto Pinstone Street we head up the row of shops and businesses until we reach The Peace Gardens and our final end point of the steps of Sheffield Town Hall.
