The Mount Vineyard (Perfect Day Trip From London)
The Mount Vineyard (Perfect Day Trip From London)// When you think of wine regions England is not the first place that comes to mine. The Mount Vineyard is located just outside of London in Shoreham making it one of the perfect day trips from London by train. If you are wondering what to do in London this weekend, then add this winery to unmissable day trips from London!
There are quite a few wineries in Kent and a great starting point to get your taste for English wine.
I highly recommend when visiting the Mount Vineyard that you book the wine tasting. One of the lovely staff members will walk you through English Wine Making in Kent, about English winemakers in the area and general history on how winemaking started.
This is another video in my London travel guide series so make sure you watch the playlist for more ideas!

A visit to The Mount Vineyard English Sparkling Wine
A visit to The Mount Vineyard English Sparkling Wine in Shoreham, Kent by Christopher Walkey of Glass of Bubbly.
Red Red Recession Wine
Back in 2009 the then British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was in need of something to drown his sorrows.
A small privately owned vineyard in Kent then had the perfect tipple.
The Mount Vineyard, in Shoreham, Kent has around 13,000 vines and is located in the Darent valley – the locals say it has its own micro climate, which over the past two years has proved fruitful for the owners. Originally the land was fields and paddocks but four years ago, the owner Mr Jon Moulton, the private equity pioneer and one of the industry's best-known figures turned the land into his own vineyard.
Last year Mount Vineyard produced around 30 tonnes of grapes which turned out 600 bottles of wine which Mr Moulton called “Recession Red” with a picture of the then British Prime Minister, Mr Brown, on the label.
Made with Rondo, Regent and Pinot Noir grapes from their 2007 harvest, a bottle costs £13.50 and instructions read: Despite choking Government regulations and taxation, serve with whatever food you can afford.
Recession Red won a gold medal in a blind tasting competition for English and Welsh red wine of the year in the UK Vineyards Association.
It also picked up several other awards, so the wine is far from just a publicity stunt. That said however, its cheeky name has put the vineyard on the map along with other British wines.
They also had a wine with the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling’s face on as well. This is a white wine, described as a refreshing, light wine, with much greater substance and consistency than Government policy – best bought early before tax rises, it’s called Shoreham Seyval.
