Reading the Waves Before a New England Hurricane
Lifelong weather lessons!
All filming done near Eastern Point Beach in Groton, Konetiuk on 3sep10 in the late morning using a Nikon Coolpix P100 and a Canon EOS 500D.
It's 1pm now and weather people are still trying to decide if Southern New England will be hit hard by this upcoming Hurricane Earl. I have discerned by observing these waves that we most likely won't.

The Poltergeist of The Bull's Head Pub
A site survey of the haunted pub. The Bull's Head Pub stands in the village of Meriden, at the very heart of England. It lies upon the Meriden - Coventry road ( the B4104 ). The Bull's Head opened circa 1603 as a coach house serving the many horse drawn coaches which used the busy road. It is still a pub today - serving the community for over 300 years.
The Bull's Head is haunted. Haunted by a Poltergeist.
At some point in the 1700's, a man committed suicide in the cellar by hanging himself. His name is not known, but it is thought he was either an employee of the coach house or a coachman who was visiting. His reasons for hanging himself are not known. It is the restless spirit of this hanged man, in the form of a Poltergeist, who haunts The Bull's Head pub. There are several reports of Poltergeist activity in the cellar and the bar dating back 300 years.
Barrels have been pushed over in the cellar, bottles and glasses smashed in the bar and barmaids have reported having their buttocks pinched by an unseen hand. When all of these paranormal activities have been investigated - nobody has been seen. However frightening these events have been these have never manifested themselves into acts of evil. It would appear that this Poltergeist is more mischievous than malignant. So much so that bar staff who work there have nicknamed the Poltergeist Frederick ! They seem to view him as a fixture of the pub - rather than a spirit who should be exorcised.
The road that runs past The Bull's Head (the B4104) is also haunted : by a Phantom Coach & Horses which crashed about a mile to the east of the pub on Meriden Hill. One dark and stormy night, also during the 1700's, a coach came off the road and crashed into a swamp killing all concerned - the coachman, the passengers and the horses. This haunting has been heard and even seen over the last 300 years. There have been reports of people within the pub hearing the sound of horse hooves pulling up outside but when investigated - nothing can be seen.
Despite both hauntings coming from the same time period, it is not believed the events of the hanging or the crash were related in life. Though it is quite possible both hauntings have a connection in death, perhaps sustaining each other ?

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
A pub, or public house, is an establishment licensed to sell alcoholic drinks, which traditionally include beer (such as ale) and cider. It is a relaxed, social drinking establishment and a prominent part of British, Irish, Breton, New Zealand, Canadian, South African and Australian cultures. In many places, especially in villages, a pub is the focal point of the community. In his 17th-century diary Samuel Pepys described the pub as the heart of England.Pubs can be traced back to Roman taverns, through the Anglo-Saxon alehouse to the development of the tied house system in the 19th century. In 1393, King Richard II of England introduced legislation that pubs had to display a sign outdoors to make them easily visible for passing ale tasters, who would assess the quality of ale sold. Most pubs focus on offering beers, ales and similar drinks. As well, pubs often sell wines, spirits, and soft drinks, meals and snacks. The owner, tenant or manager (licensee) is known as the pub landlord or landlady, or publican. Referred to as their local by regulars, pubs are typically chosen for their proximity to home or work, the availability of a particular beer or ale or a good selection, good food, a social atmosphere, the presence of friends and acquaintances, and the availability of recreational activities such as a darts team, a skittles team, and a pool or snooker table. The pub quiz was established in the UK in the 1970s.

Existing & Lost Morlands Pubs of Berkshire and Oxfordshire
George Morland became the dominant Brewery in Old Berkshire . Their main brewery was in Ock Street Abingdon until they were bought out by Greene King. The Morland pubs usually had a distinctive Artist Plaque. I have been collecting them for a few years now but am still finding more. The former brewery buildings have been successfully converted to housing.
