Llandrindod Wells is a town and community in Powys, within the historic boundaries of Radnorshire, Wales. Llandrindod Wells serves as the seat of Powys County Council and thus the administrative centre of Powys.
Llandrindod Wells was developed as a spa town in the 19th century, with a boom in the late 20th century as a centre of local government. Before the 1860s the site of the town was common land in Llanfihangel Cefn-llys parish. Llandrindod Wells is the fifth largest town in Powys, and the largest in Radnorshire.
Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival, known locally as 'Victorian Week', at the end of August, brings many visitors to the town.[citation needed] Many locals and some visitors dress in Victorian, Edwardian or other antique costumes, and many of the town's shops and other high-street businesses dress their windows or otherwise join in the spirit of the event. The festival typically offers open-air and street theatre and music, a fairground, a craft fair, an historical re-enactment, entertainments at the Albert Hall and exhibitions of things old-time.
The architecture of the town of Llandrindod Wells includes many buildings in ornate styles dating from the boom period of the Victorian and Edwardian eras including the Metropole and the Glen Usk hotels, the Albert Hall theatre and former county hall building adjacent to it. There are also buildings in the Art Deco style including two former garages, Pritchard's and the Automobile Palace. The latter was notable for a collection of antique bicycles owned by the proprietor, Tom Norton, which were displayed suspended from ceilings in the building. The building has in recent years been renovated and is now home to several small businesses and the National Cycle Collection, featuring some of the bicycles originally displayed in the garage.
The largest of the town's hotels are the Metropole (with 120 bedrooms of 4 star standard, an indoor swimming pool and leisure centre), the Glen Usk and the Commodore. The Hotel Metropole's swimming pool used to be open-air and was open to the public when it was the only pool in the town, but a public pool is available now at the sports centre attached to the local comprehensive school. A hotel in the scenic Rock Park has not survived, and various cafes and restaurants have come and gone over the years leaving a handful of establishments currently operating.

Penny Farthing at Kings Cross Victorian Festival Granary Square - Mr Phoebus 2013
????Testimonial - Kings Cross
Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September 2013
Mr Phoebus and the Penny Farthing Experience Team were brilliant. It was great to see the hundreds of people enjoying them over the weekend at our Kings Cross Victorian Festival. -
Sophie Lemm - ProduceUK . Event Manager
Please check out the video to see why..
The Mr Phoebus Experience was a worthwhile and brilliant addition to our Victorian event on Granary Square. It was hugely popular and Simon and his team were rushed off their feet both days, with thousands of visitors. Despite this they all remained enthusiastic and energetic throughout the whole weekend.
An extra perk was Simon dressed as a Victorian Policeman cycling around on a full sized Penny Farthing.
We couldn't of asked for more.
Thanks to Simon Hayford Morris and all the team evolved.

Peeps Through The Window Of The World No. 71 (1936)
Titles read: 'PEEPS THROUGH THE WINDOW OF THE WORLD'.
Various locations of events.
Near Rochester in Kent we see a woman called Miss Jones in a street wearing a tray of cosmetics around her neck like an ice-cream girl at the cinema or a cigarette girl. A woman who has left her make-up at home stops at the mobile beauty counter and puts on lipstick and powder at the tray while Miss Jones holds up a mirror for her. (This can't be real!)
Also in Kent, we see a female hiker in shorts, beret and backpack, standing beneath a road sign. She is wearing a round disc on the back of her rucksack, so that motorists can see her clearly. Commentator opines that Motorists certainly wouldn't be looking at the disc.
In the United States of America we see girls on a beach getting changed into their swimsuits inside 'tent bags' - large fabric bags that cover the whole body to protect your modesty. Some have the bags pulled right up over their heads, two girls are in the same bag together (oo-er!). The girls all finally get out of the bags and run down to the sea in their swimming costumes. It looks like the water is a bit cold as they run away from the waves coming in.

the inner picture 2010 - Young People's Live in Wales
2010 Youth Speaks Out! - PRESS RELEASE - January 2010 THE FIRST EXHIBITION OF IT?S KIND ABOUT LIFE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN POWYS TODAY. Through funding by Powys's Chance to Create | Cyfle i Greu grant scheme; artist Blue MacAskill partnered up with the arts organisation CARAD to produce an exhibition about the work Blue has done in Powys over the last 5 months. Working with young people, interviewing, running courses and workshops, making work about their life, issues and experiences as well as hopes for the future. The centre of the exhibit will be a special film made by the young people, supported by the artist. The Inner Picture - When youth speaks for itself. . . is a dynamic exhibition and wide-reaching programme of workshops that focuses on the issues and situations of our young people in Powys today: What are their choices? What do they do with their free time? How do they see their future? The exhibition at Rhayader Museum and Gallery will feature, film, photography, painting, poetry and print work made by a group of 15 young people from Mid Powys supported through the project by artist and film-maker Blue MacAskill. The Inner Picture exhibition runs at Rhayader Museum and Gallery from Saturday 1st May 2010 - 21st June 2010. The Young People aged 16-21, took their inspiration from works at the Museum's collections plus stories, issues and ideas that have evolved and develop from their own lives. The project has been designed to give young people a chance to engage with art and evolve work exclusively for CARAD. The project has helped develop the creative skills of the participants. This project is one of many opportunities CARAD offers for people of all ages to explore their sense of place within their own local community. The Inner Picture is special because it will give a voice to under represented young women who have a particular story to tell. Quote by Liz Pugh head of CARAD in her belief and the importance of this project. Laura Davenport from Llandrindod Wells is one of the participants: I never thought I was any good at art, I have proved to myself that I can do it. Artist Blue MacAskill: ?This first exhibition will recognise the fantastic artistic work of the young people involved with Inner Picture. I would encourage as many people as possible to visit the gallery. As an artist based in Wales I want to contribute to all avenues of art for all ideals and make cultural events and venues part of a Powys Resident or Visitors every day life and future expectations. It is hoped that the exhibition will attract new kinds of audiences to the Museum and Gallery.
