A virtual discovery of the National Museum of Oman in Muscat
The National Museum of Oman is a must-see attraction
The National Museum of Oman is the Sultanate of Oman's flagship cultural institution dedicated to Oman’s cultural heritage, showcasing history from the earliest human settlement in Oman Peninsula some two million years ago to the present day, as well as offering glimpses into our future.
Established as an independent legal entity, the National Museum is a national institution with global outreach. Its purpose is to increase knowledge of, and appreciation for, the cultural heritage of Oman, providing opportunities for cultural expression, innovation and the transfer of traditional skills and knowledge from one generation to the next. Its aim is to ensure that Oman's heritage is understood and appreciated within the Sultanate and valued and recognised internationally.
The museum is located in a magnificent new purpose-built building, located in Muscat, showcasing some 12.583 objects and 43 digital immersive experiences distributed across 14 permanent gallery spaces. The museum houses a number of firsts in Oman, including a fully equipped learning centre, state-of-the-art, preventive conservation facilities, UHD cinema and discovery areas for children. Besides being the first user-friendly public building for special categories, it is also the first museum in the Middle East to adopt Arabic Braille script for the visually impaired, and houses the first open-plan storage concept in the region.
The design of the building is the result of a collaboration between architects Arts Architecture International, museum designers Jasper Jacob Associates and international engineers COWI & Partners LLP

National Museum
The National #Museum of the Sultanate of #Oman, established by royal decree in 2013 and opened July 30, 2016, is the Sultanate's flagship cultural institution, showcasing the nation’s heritage from the earliest human settlement in the Oman Peninsula some two million years ago through to the present day.
As a national institution with global outreach, the museum is dedicated to ensuring Oman’s cultural heritage is understood and appreciated not only within the Sultanate, but also internationally. Further, it aims to provide opportunities for cultural expression, innovation, and the transfer of traditional skills and knowledge from one generation to the next.[2]

The total area of the building is 13,700 square metres (147,000 sq ft), including 4,000 square metres (43,000 sq ft) allocated for 14 permanent galleries – The Land and the People Gallery, Maritime History Gallery, Arms and Armour Gallery, Aflaj Gallery, Currency Gallery, Prehistory and Ancient History Galleries, Splendours of Islam Gallery, Oman and the World Gallery, Intangible Heritage Gallery and Renaissance Gallery, among others.[citation needed] A further 400 square metres (4,300 sq ft) are allocated for temporary exhibitions.
The National Museum houses 5,466 objects and offers 43 digital immersive experiences, a fully equipped Learning Centre, state-of-the-art conservation facilities, a UHD cinema and discovery areas for children. It features an integrated infrastructure for special needs and is the first museum in the Middle East to adopt Arabic Braille script for the visually impaired. It also houses the region’s first open-plan museum storage concept, where visitors can learn about the various processes that artifacts go through before they are put on display.

Riyam Park, Mutrah - Top Tourist Place in Muscat, Oman
Muttrah The Beautiful
In the old days, Muttrah was the center of commerce in Oman. It is now a commercial hub in the GCC area, with the Sultan Qaboos Port — one of the largest sea ports of the region — located there.
Along the corniche, landmarks include Souq Muttrah, a traditional bazaar, one of the world’s oldest.
Overlooking the harbour is the Muttrah Fort, a medieval icon built by the Portuguese in the 1850s. It dominates the eastern end of the harbour.
Further to the east are cultural gems such as the Muscat Gate and the Giant incense burner overlooking Riyam Park.
Off the port are traditional Omani dhows, giving the scene an ancient flavour.
Muttrah corniche is spectacular, especially at sundown.
