Calder view Mirfield we must take Climate change seriously, and demand that the Kirklees local plan
Mirfield boxing day floods footage 26-12-2015
Boxing day 26th December 2015 the River Calder breached its banks, and reached a new river levels breaking the old River level by 345mm? from 5.04mm to 5.395mm we must take Climate change seriously, and demand that the Kirklees local plan talks to the Lead Local Flood Authority and tackles the issue before it's too late. The future flood cost for Kirklees could cost lives, and cost over 100 million in tax payer’s money to put right flood damage.
The future flood cost for Kirklees could cost lives, and cost over 100 million in tax payer’s money to put right flood damage if the local plan does not tackle the issue
Kirklees Council should be talking with councils upstream, and downstream of our rivers and creating a robust plan between all councils setting aside land, and encouraging the rivers to flood these areas when rivers are in flood. The recent storm events September, and December which have hit most areas of England only point to new problems. The old worst storm scenario to return 1 in 100 years will now need rewriting and new storm calculations will need to be more robust than ever before.
The future flood cost for Kirklees could cost lives, and cost over 100 million in tax payer’s money to put right flood damage if the local plan does not tackle the issue
Number of properties at risk from flooding in Kirklees are 12,000 from river flooding, and 15,000 from other local sources (surface water, minor streams and groundwater) i.e. a total of 27,000 properties or 15% of households in the district
With 15000 plus, new home earmarked for the Kirklees area, and some of the sites are earmarked for development fall on flood plains? If the local plan is past on the numbers of new properties which the local plan has suggested then how many new properties will be added to the 27.000 existing properties which are at risk from flooding.

The Lead Local Flood Authority needs to get a grip of Yorkshire water most sewers across the district are past there sell by date by many years. .High river levels also impact on our drainage systems across the districted Yorkshire water drainage systems are only designed for a 1 – 30 years storm? Pipes and culverts which discharge directly in to the rivers will surcharge back, and can create flooding quite a distance away from the rivers because the drainage system cannot cope with the amount of water it as to deal with.
BUT my question to The Lead Local Flood Authority ? Must be, how much can be manage before it cost lives, and property and a bill over 100m to put flood damage right.
