Hotel Room Reviews - Rufford Court - Nottingham UK - Room 9
Please join me as I look around the hotel rooms of the world. From the North America to the Netherlands, we see what's inside those fancy and not so fancy hotels.
This week I stayed at the Rufford Court for the 3rd time and a different room with different facilities. Whilst I have stayed at the hotel a number of times the hotel still leaves a lot to be desired with several faults around the place.
Have a look and see what you think
Hotel Review: Best Western Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England - May 2017
I stayed at the Best Western Bentley Hotel in Lincoln, in May 2017. Two of us stayed for 2 nights, bed and breakfast, which cost £205.20 booked with Booking.com.
The room was nice and large, and came with bath robes, a bizarrely placed safe on the floor, excellent air conditioning, corby trouser press, tea and coffee, desk, hairdryer, mirrors, flat screen Panasonic TV, ample plug sockets (around 7), telephone, clock radio, coffee table and two chairs, king-sized bed, standard lamp, and radiator. The bathroom was decent and clean, with a shower / bath arrangement. The room was very good overall, although upon entering there was a faint whiff of cigarettes, I didn't let this put me off, but it wasn't great.
The breakfast buffet was excellent, no complaints at all. The restaurant was VERY busy though on the bank holiday weekend that I stayed there.
The bar was small and basic, but OK for a quick pint. The hotel had a very large swimming pool (20 metres by 10 metres I am guessing), which was well used during our stay by ourselves and other guests. I couldn't film there though, so this is not included in the film, but it was a very good feature.
The main disadvantage of this hotel is it's distance to the city centre. It is 6.3 miles and a 15 - 20 minute drive to Lincoln Cathedral. We drove there and back once, but parking was difficult, so we took a taxi there and back the day afterwards, I've forgotten how much this cost (I'm guessing around £15 each way), but we had to wait over an hour for a taxi there and back. It seems that Lincoln is a city with not enough taxis...Uber - take note!!!
This film features the following: an external view of the hotel, the lift / elevator, a first floor corridor, a detailed inspection of room 245, restaurant, breakfast buffet and bar.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, and would very likely stay here again in future, if I were in Lincoln - just to use the swimming pool!

Whats happened to Bamber Bridge Box | theGNRP
Has the axe fallen sooner for this once signal box?
Joining the fate of it’s sisters across this area, to be demolished before times out?
Well actually no, it’s still booked to be pulled down in 2026 some eight years longer.
Built by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and opened in 1906, replacing an earlier box it has stood here for over 100 years maintaining signalling and the road crossing on a busy little section.
This line runs from say Preston to Blackburn used by Special Tours, general passenger traffic and freight, some very heavy freight trains in fact.
The log train runs past here most days 1000’s of tonnes of wood going off to North Wales to be turned into furniture.
So in fairness thinking about it’s position so close to the track and the unusual overhang - a 100 year plus life span of its job is value for money and a credit to those who have stood in that spot working the box and maintaining it.#
This IMPROVEMENT WORKS PHASE 2 of BAMBER BRIDGE LEVEL CROSSING continues part of the Railway Upgrade Plan and to deliver a better railway for Britain.
The purpose of the works is to prop the signal box to prevent any further movement.
The first phase has been completed. The second phase involves the installation of the Flying Shore System which once installed will stabilise the building.
The works will be undertaken on Sunday nights over a 9-week period, during the night. Reason being as Network Rail rightly say
“Safety is our priority and for this reason work of this nature must be carried out while trains are not running. Under the Network Rail licence conditions they are contractually obliged to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services. Unfortunately, this means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night and at weekends.”
Now Network Rail totally understand this inconvenience and disruption our work may cause. The machinery used means some disturbance is unavoidable, but they will keep it to a minimum the best they can.
Here are a few plans of the metal work being installed provided by Network Rail.
Si Chil Caplin has also been keeping me up to date and sent in a few photos of the scaffold taken after dark also showing the extent of the scaffold across the line. Plus here is a plan of the work undertaken - many thanks for sending this in.
So in fairness, personally I’m glad they spotted this and sured it up. I’ve only been regally visiting this box over the past year or so so I’m pleased I managed to get some footage before the work.
The box’s fate like I said is still booked in for demolition by 2026, and like many other boxes across the country will be committed to the history books and memories of those who cared to remember.
Finally it’s also said that the big Power Box at Preston built in the 70’s that replaced many of the older signal boxes across the area will be decommissioned by 2027, so get snapping to capture what will soon be gone.

Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham
Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, KG PC, styled The Hon. Charles Watson-Wentworth before 1733, Viscount Higham between 1733 and 1746, Earl of Malton between 1746 and 1750 and The Marquess of Rockingham in 1750, was a British Whig statesman, most notable for his two terms as Prime Minister of Great Britain. He became the patron of many Whigs, known as the Rockingham Whigs, and served as a leading Whig grandee.
