RunCam HD aerial video (raw) -- The NZ Timber Museum, Putaruru
I'm reviewing the RunCam HD FPV/recording camera on my RCModelReviews channel but thought I'd post some of the raw footage I took recently from a flight at the NZ Timber Museum in Putaruru, South Waikato (oh.. is that legal? :-)
In this footage I tried to get plenty of different lighting conditions in front of the camera so as to establish its performance. It seems to have good dynamic range but I did notice quite a bad lens flare when facing at some angles into the sun. Colors are nice but (as advised by RunCam, the camera may need refocusing).
Remember, this isn't the release version of the camera, it's a beta-test version sent for evaluation and review.
And sorry about the shaky flying... just switched to 5x4 props on the Blackout and haven't re-done the PIDs.

The Beautiful Blue Springs - New Zealand
The Blue Spring at Te Waihou Walkway is internationally acclaimed with water so pure it supplies around 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water.
Te Waihou walkway - The Blue Spring, Putaruru, NZ.
The spring is fed from the Mamaku Plateau where the water takes up to 100 years to filter through; the resulting water is so pure and clean that it produces a beautiful blue colour while being virtually clear.
The walk to the springs follows a track alongside the Waihou River, through wetlands, across rolling pastoral land and features views of small waterfalls, native bush and the famous Blue Spring with glimpses of trout along the way. Pools and calm stretches of the river are great for swimming and there are many quiet picnic spots.
Water from the Blue Spring flows at a rate of 42 cubic metres per minute and could fill a 6 lane (25 meters) swimming pool in around 12 minutes. The water temperature is a constant 11 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
The Blue Spring walk takes about one and a half hours each way, starting from Whites Road (State Highway 28), near Putaruru. There is also a shorter walk, 15 minutes each way, to the Blue Spring, accessed from nearby Leslie Road.
The Te Waihou Walkway and Blue Spring is located in South Waikato near Putaruru. With plenty to see and do in the South Waikato area, you can easily make a day of it. Enjoy some local cheese at Over the Moon Dairy Company, take your bike and try out the Waikato River Trails, or do a spot of fly fishing in one of the many great waterways in the area.
Boutique galleries and gift stores are plentiful in Tirau while Tokoroa, a little further south, celebrates its forestry heritage with the carved Talking Poles and NZ Timber Museum.
The Blue Spring, Te Waihou Walkway Details:
Time: 1 hr 30 min one way – 3 hr return when walking from the Whites Road carpark. A much shorter option is from the Leslie Road carpark.
Distance: 4.7km one way plus 0.5km loop track
Track conditions: The walkway ranges from easy walking to a few steeper areas with some stiles and steps and boardwalks through wetland areas.
Getting there: The walkway is situated off Whites Road, with upstream access from Leslie Road, Putaruru. The downstream entrance is just past Leslie Road, and the Blue Spring end is 3.6km along Leslie Road.
The most scenic route is to walk to the halfway point, take the loop track then return the way you came.
Please Note: Many of the walking trails in the Hamilton & Waikato region do not allow dogs. Hamilton & Waikato Tourism recommended checking with the Department of Conservation before taking your dog on any of the trails in the region.

Tirau Museum in New Zealand
A unique and quirky collection of items nestled in the scenic hills of New Zealand, just outside of Tirau on the way to Rotorua. Contains such items from old cars like an Oakland and a Fiat 500, to old tractors, farm equipment, and logging equipment. One wing contains a wide assortment of military items, with the jewel being a Welbike or Corgi motorbike that was dropped with paratroopers and used for transport. Other parts of the museum showed diorama's from days gone by. The owner, Geoff, has traveled extensively, and has many unique items to show for his efforts. Well worth the visit, look it up if you're going through this area. We saw directions to it in the tourist center in Tirau.
For another perspective on it, see this news article on the museum:

Old Taupo Road, Putaruru
The epitome of NZ dairy.
Welcome to Old Taupo Road, Putaruru. This large scale trophy Waikato dairy unit comprises more or less 409 hectares and is located in the Putaruru district, a highly-regarded and reliable dairy province.
Oxford farm has been developed to an outstanding level with a range of improvements, unequaled in the industry. These include a state of the art 64-bale rotary dairy, housed in a comprehensive structure that includes an office, boardroom, two kitchens, bathrooms, staff meeting room, computer room, systems room plus many more features. There are also two animal barns housing 420 cows with feed bins, as well as a 500-cow feed pad adjacent.
All areas are established on concrete, draining to two large storage ponds with effluent being processed through a state of the art solid/green water separator process, and then discharged to pasture via a multi-stage screw pump and traveling irrigator to approximately 120 hectares.
There’s a vast range of support buildings, including implement sheds, purpose built calf sheds, workshop and five hay barns.
Housing consists of four very good homes, with the main home boasting four bedrooms, two ensuites, three living areas, double garage and tool room. To compliment the home it has an in ground swimming pool and tennis court along with a large colour steel 3 bay lock up workshop.
The farm is presently supplying milk twelve months of the year with a winter milk contract with Fonterra to supply milk during the months of May/Jun/July at 1100 KG milk solids per month.
The normal split of milking stock is 600-650 cows autumn calving and a further 500-550 spring calving.
Seventy hectares of maize is grown on farm with palm kernal and whole grain brought in. Production under this farming system is around 538,000 kg of milk solids.
Make no mistake, this is one of New Zealand’s trophy dairy operations and a property you would be very proud to own. Call Ian immediately for your viewing.

From Waitomo Caves to Kawhia is a very pleasant drive. Most tourists don't visit this part of the country. From Kawhia we headed east to Putaruru - another place most visitors miss. We found both these places well worth going to - I hope this video does them justice.

Blackout Mini-H and MXP230e miniquad speed practice at Tokoroa
250-class Mini quadcopter FPV racing at 100+ Km/H is so much fun and I'm getting in some much-needed practice flying.
The very first race-meeting of the soon to be formed RCPA flying group is coming very soon so I figured it was time to get my quads tuned up. This video has some footage of my Blackout MIni-H (for standard class) and my XHover MXP230e (for the open class).
The Blackout is a now bit rattly and could do with some more tuning but the MXP230 flies like silk and with the SunnySky 2207 motors, 4S and HQ6x4.5 props, it cruises effortlessly at over 100kph (60mph) with power to spare.
Where did that goal-post cross-bar come from anyway? :-)

Putaruru Capers(Passenger's Perspective)
The Farewell Express Last train ride to Rotorua has arrived at the junction of the Rotorua Branch which is Putaruru. Complicated Shunting manoeuvres are required to move the rear loco of the doubleheaded train down to the end. As this is the last trip on this branch and the line hasn't been used for several months. These manoeuvres are a little more complicated than thought. The Red DC 4156 loco will take us over the steep grade into Rotorua and the blue one 4140 will bring us out - well at least that's the plan. More videos of the actual trip are now loaded
Tīrau, corrugated-iron capital - Roadside Stories
A giant dog and sheep tower over the main street of Tīrau, just two of a series of sculptures and buildings made from corrugated iron -- a common building material in New Zealand. The quirky sculptures were designed and erected by Steven Clothier of Corrugated Creations as part of an effort to revitalise the town from the late 1980s.

Lotto's Winning Wheel Draw 30/06/2012 Allan from Putaruru
Meet Allan, a dairy farmer who lives in Putaruru with wife Leesa and three of their six shared children. He also has three grandchildren, loves playing the guitar and riding his motorbike in his spare time.
On his wish-list is to clear some debt, a holiday and help the kids -- if it's a big one a trip to the USA is the plan, and if it's the really BIG ONE early retirement is on the agenda!
We also get to meet the fabulous Deborah from McCabes Toyworld in Putaruru. This is their second Winning Wheel ticket that they've sold -- plus a few other big winners too.
