Hsipaw Trekking at Myanmar's Northern Shan State , presented by Myanmar Intrepid Traveler
Hsipaw Trekking at Northern Shan State of Myanmar ;
You may understand, a trek could be about nature and views of the wilderness ...
But in this case, it was more about seeing the life that operated within it …
Locals could seem remote and exotic at the best of times but it was amplified out here ...
Lives have pretty much been led this way for generations, regardless of who was in charge of the country …
It was unique, it was beautiful in its simplicity, and it was here for you to see and appreciate …

Exploring Hsipaw - Myanmar // Day Hiking
I always try to explore the places on foot to see what the City or the place has to Offer.
Hsipaw is definitely one of the Places to be explored.
Lies in the Northern Shan State, an important ally of the British after the conquest of Upper Burma.
One can certainly explore Nam Tok Waterfall and caves around here without any organised trek.
I hope you enjoyed the Video. Don't Forget to Give it a Thumps Up

Walking/Biking Around Hsipaw (Myanmar)
Hsipaw / သီပေါ / သီႇပေႃ, also known as Thibaw, is the principal town of Hsipaw Township in Shan State, Myanmar on the banks of the Duthawadi River. It is 200 km (124 mi) north-east of Mandalay. Hsipaw State was perhaps one of the most well known and powerful saopha Shan States and the Sawbwas of Hsipaw lived in the Shan Palace at the northern end of the town.
Every day, a train makes it laborious way up from Mandalay, via steep hills and a breathtaking gorge, to Hsipaw (and onward to Lashio). One of the 'must do' railway journeys of the world, the railway line between Pyin u Lwin and Hsipaw is a masterpiece of British engineering, designed primarily to bring trade (and thus control) to the Northern Shan State, an important ally of the British after the conquest of Upper Burma.
The train from Mandalay to Hsipaw takes 11 hours and costs less that 2000Ky or 4000Ky First Class, if you buy in the train station. The train leave at 4am. The journey from Pyin oo Lwin to Hsipaw takes seven hours and costs Kyat 2750 First Class (Upper Class) or Kyat 1200 Second Class (Ordinary Class). Many travelers do the Pyin oo Lwin (Maymyo) to Hsipaw section one way and return by road (7 hours by train, 4 hours by road). Lashio is four hours from Hsipaw by train. The train from Hsipaw to Mandalay (and Pyin Oo Lwin) leaves at 09:40 and arrives in Mandalay at 22:40 (to Pyin Oo Lwin at around 16:00).

Trekking in Myanmar (Burma) - Namhsan to HsipawTrek.
Another great trek. After a very dusty 5 hour jeep ride from Hsipaw, we arrived in the very interesting mountain town of Namhsan. We spent a couple of nights here before starting our 60km trek back to Hsipaw. Usually the trek takes 3 days, but we decided to do it in 2 which meant walking the last 3 hours back to town in the dark. A highlight of our trek was spending a night in a monastery.
The music is by Khan Khan with a song called DiDa made famous by the tv show Beijing Love Story.
EPIC Wild River Trekking Myanmar's Northern Shan State
Adventure truly off the beaten path with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) trekking/floating in a roaring wild river near Lashio. I've done river trekking before but not quite like this where few have gone before, and it was a fun physical challenge to explore this river.
Northern Shan State (near the town of Lashio in Myanmar) is seldom visited by foreign travellers, but has some fantastic unspoiled nature. If you have a sense of adventure then this is definitely for you, and Myanmar is one of the most amazing countries to travel in. Well worth making the effort to get there.
Have an epic train journey over the Gokteik Viaduct to get to Lashio while you're at it:
This was Day 2 of a 3-day outdoor trip with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) at the end of December 2018.

Drone footage by Byron of Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO). MAO is not only a great company to help you explore Northern Shan State's amazing outdoors adventures, but also invests back into developing local communities. I highly recommend them (I was not paid nor received any freebies - maybe next time guys? ????): Check them out at

Myanmar Hsipaw Trekking Kiaukme
Hill Tribe Trek, Myanmar
Last year during our trip to Myanmar, we embarked on a 10-hour train journey from Mandalay to Hsipaw, a town in Shan State in Eastern Myanmar. Over the last few years, Hsipaw became a popular getaway to trekking Shan and Palaung villages. Our 3-day trek was by far the most culturally immersive experience we had in Myanmar. Not only did we get a chance to stay in villagers’ homes, eat homemade food, interact with locals, and witness their day to day lives, but we got a chance to participate in a rare celebration known as the Monk Moon Harvest Festival.
Myanmar - Hsipaw trekking

We got to experience the real Myanmar hiking from Kalaw to Inle lake. Seeing the rural side of Myanmar was an absolute treat and we had a ton of fun. Shout out to the crew we trekked with, you all made the 3 day hike a real pleasure.
The company we trekked with is called Jungle King Trekking and is based in Kalaw. Would highly recommend them to anyone considering trekking in Myanmar.
