The Old City of Safed, Israel
Safed, Israel’s mystical holy city
Take a walk with us through the ancient cobblestoned city that is infused with art, music and spirituality.
Licensed tour guide Adam Budenstein calls Safed (Tzfat) a “beautiful, mystical, magical place. Every stone has a different story to it.”
Surrounded by the mountains and forests of the green Upper Galilee, Safed is world-famous for its winding alleyways and old majestic synagogues, its Artists Quarter and its musicians, its history of kabbalah and spirituality.
“But we're not disconnected from the rest of the world at all,” says Budenstein. “This is a place where people actually come to connect and I would invite you to come and connect yourselves.”

Safed (Tsfat) the Kabbalah City (Jewish mysticism), Israel - A visit to the ancient alleys

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

SAFED, MOST RACIST CITY IN ISRAEL? November 23rd 2010
SAFED, Israel. The Israeli city of Safed has been making headlines ever since its chief rabbi issued a religious ruling banning the sale or renting of property to Arabs. A decree which prompted one reknowned Israeli editorialist to call Safed: the most racist city in Israel. The anti-arab campaign launched by Safed's chief rabbi has put a city used to be in the spotlight but for completely different reasons. Safed is famous for being one of the four main holy cities of Judaism, and the birth place of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. But its also known for its cheese and for attracting Kabalah (Jewish mysticism) enthusiasts, like Madonna, from around the world. Its chief rabbi is now warning the young Jewish girls of the risks they run if they date Arab men. This campaign sparked violent comments and attacks on Arab residents carried out by ultra orthodox Jews. But Jews who rent to Arabs have also been targetted. Practically no one dares to rent to some of the 1300 Arab students in a town which holds some 40 000 Israeli Jews. While the American administration is still trying to save the peace process, relations between the Jewish and Muslim communities of Safed are rapidly deteriorating.

Davidka Morter in Tzfat Israel - By David S.
The Davidka was used in the battles for Haifa, Ein Zeitun, Safed and Biddu. ... notably at Tzfat, where they mistook it for an atomic weapon when they abandoned the city.
Klezmer Music Festival - Tzfat - Safed - Israel
Last week was the Klezmer Music Festival in Tsfat. People come from all over Israel (and the world) for the mult-day event. There are bands everywhere throughout the Old City of Tzfat. Vendors sell cotton candy, crepes and other fast food while jewelers and artists display their work.
It is hard to find accommocations in Tsfat so we had guests and relatives stay in our Zimmers at Villa Rimona in Yavne'el. It's about a 30 minute drive to Tzfat from Yavniel.
A great time was had by all. Come visit us next year! Call Chana at 077-419-9001, or from the USA at 718-717-2192.
