John Pascoe Fawkner: The Australian Media Hall of Fame
Fawkner published the first newspaper in Victoria, the Melbourne Advertiser, on 1 January, 1838. The first nine editions were hand-written and distributed at Melbourne’s first pub, also established by this pioneer settler from England via Tasmania. The Advertiser eventually became part of The Argus, which was published until 1957. Fawkner also established the Launceston Advertiser and the Geelong Advertiser, the oldest surviving paper in Victoria.

KINGS CROSS NIGHTLIFE
You can't go past the enigmatic Kings Cross for a big night out in Sydney. 'The Cross' - Australia's best known entertainment district - never sleeps, working around the clock to live up to its long heritage as a colourful, energetic and sometimes madcap hub of pubs, clubs, bars, dance venues, theatre, cabaret and adult entertainment, complimented by a smorgasbord of some of Sydney's best known restaurants and cafes.
While it's easy to stay up late at The Cross, it's much harder choosing where to do it. If you plan to visit every cocktail bar in the district, you could be in for a long night indeed. Peppermint Lounge, Soho, The Tasting Room, Lotus, Hugo's and Sapphire Suite will all tempt you with delectable drinks, cool grooves and some of the city's style queens and princes.
There are also Kings Cross institutions like 'The Bourbon', an infamous 24-hour bar and eatery inhabited by Kings Cross locals, shiftworkers enjoying a post-work drink, and the occasional lost famous person on a big night out! For a more casual evening, get to the Woolloomooloo Hotel. It offers a classic pub menu of cold beer, easy-going atmosphere, and good-value pub food. Also in Woolloomooloo is The Old Fiztroy - a friendly local pub where you can enjoy comedy or theatre, a few beers, and a relaxed meal. Or melt into the deep lounges at Water Bar.
For an Arts twist to the night, visit any of the three theatres in Kings Cross. The Darlinghurst Theatre Company provides a theatrically diverse and appealing program. The Old Fitzroy Theatre - affectionately known as the Old Fitz - keeps audiences returning with its great theatre, relaxed atmosphere and the comfortable couch room where you can meet the performers. And there is also the Stables Theatre with performances by the Griffin Theatre Company. Cate Blanchett and Jacqueline McKenzie began their professional careers at Griffin, and the hit films Lantana and The Boys and the film/TV series Heartbreak High began life as plays produced by Griffin.
A night out in Kings Cross is only limited by your imagination.

Inner Voices @ The Old Fitz
Don't Look Away in association with Red Line Productions present:
Inner Voices by Louis Nowra
June 15 - July 9 @ The Old Fitz
Book now:
This marks the first production of the play in Sydney since its premiere almost 40 years ago at the Nimrod Theatre in a production directed by John Bell and featuring Tony Sheldon, Jane Harders, Bill Conn and Robert Alexander.
INNER VOICES first brought Nowra to public attention in 1977 and vividly demonstrates his early preoccupation and the exercise of power through the imagination. Held prisoner by a cruel and oppressive system, Ivan the Sixth has been imprisoned by Catherine the Great since childhood. Never learning language or social interaction he is freed by ambitous soldiers and placed on the throne knowing only his name.
Don't Look Away has brought together a stellar ensemble and creative team to bring this unique and violent vision to life. DAMIEN STROUTHOS (Bell Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Henry V) will lead a cast that also includes ANNIE BYRON (Head Full of Love, My Name is Asher Lev), JULIAN GARNER (Arcadia, Storm Boy), EMILY GODDARD (The Lonely Wolf, Boy at the Edge of Everything), ANTHONY GOOLEY (Good Works, Of Mice and Men), NICHOLAS PAPADEMETRIOU (The House of Ramon Iglesia, Thomas Murray and the Upside Down River) and FRANCESCA SAVIGE (Shellshock, A Doll’s House).
Directed by Don't Look Away artistic director Phil Rouse , designed by Anna Gardiner and Martelle Hunt, lighting design by Sian James-Holland and sound design by Katelyn Shaw.
Don't Look Away is the only company in Australia dedicated to producing lost plays by Australian Playwrights.

The City Circle route is serviced by heritage W class trams decorated in special maroon and green with yellow and gold trimmings, as well as MMTB's standard traditional green liveried W Class trams.
The City Circle Tram travels around the city and links with other tram, train and light rail services in and around Melbourne. The tram will take you past shopping malls and arcades, and major attractions such as the Old Treasury Building, Parliament House and the Princess Theatre.
Tourists can spend all day on a City Circle Tram! Information leaflets, including an 'easy to understand' map of the city are available on board each City Circle Tram.
