The Epic Journey to Britain’s Most Remote Pub
What would you do for a pint? Would you hike 18 miles through the Scottish Highlands? Sail whale-infested waters? Battle Orcs and forge through the Mines of Moria into the fires of Mordor? (Maybe not that last one.) We sent two of our producers on a quest to find Britain’s most remote pub, The Old Forge in Knoydart, Scotland. With no roads in or out, one does not simply walk to The Old Forge. It took our stalwart producers a few tries to finally reach the tavern’s doors—three by land, one by sea—but the journey there certainly worked up a thirst. Cheers!

100 Great Scottish Pubs - The Old Forge
The Old Forge is officially the most remote pub in the whole of the UK. This is a video about my journey there and what happened next. Check out my Book - '100 Great Scottish Pubs' and find some truly great places to visit. It is available from Amazon as an Ebook and a paperback.
Glenfinnan to Inverie - The Old Forge Inn, August 2018
Glenfinnan to Inverie (part of the Cape Wrath Trail).
Backpacking to Britain's most remote pub, The Old Forge Inn on the Knoydart Peninsula, on Scotland's North West coast, also known as Britain's last wilderness.
On 20/08/18 I undertook a solo hike of some twenty seven miles (depending on which sources you read) over three (ish) days in one of the most remote areas in mainland Britain, Knoydart.
This video is a mash-up of video footage and photos taken along the way, an account of my journey, a journey I can honestly say was one of the hardest things I've ever done, reaching points of elevation of some 525 meters above sea level (again depending upon which sources you read).
Hope you enjoy the video as much as I did making it.

Micro-Adventure: 3 Day Walk to Britain's Most Remote Pub
The plan was simple, walk to the UK's most remote mainland pub, have a drink, then walk back.
But with no roads in or out and the only way to get there by foot was an 18-mile walk across wet bogs, slippery boulders and over wet windy Scottish mountains that drink soon turned into a mission.
The pub was the Old Forge, in the tiny village of Inverie, on the Knoydart peninsula Scotland.

Wilderness Episode 1 - Knoydart
'Knoydart - Shaped by Wilderness' is the first part in a series of short films (the Wilderness Episodes) from Wilderness Scotland which explore the people, places and culture of the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The Knoydart peninsula is often called Britain's last great wilderness due to its inaccessibility and dramatic wild landscape. This film gives an insight into life on Knoydart from local people who have spent most of their lives there and others who have chosen to make it their home. The values they live by are shaped by their location but not controlled by it, highlighted by the local fresh food culture. The strong connection with each other and the land make it a very special place for the visitor.

Ferry from Inverie to Mallaig
A last look at Inverie village on the Knoydart peninsula in Scotland, from the ferry Western Isles which took us across Loch Nevis to to Mallaig. The peak behind the village is the 779-meter Sgurr Coire Choinnichean. Inverie is the most remote village in mainland Britain.
Knoydart's 10 Music Festival (part I) - Getting there
In 1999, 17000 acres of one of Scotland's remotest west coast estates was finally delivered from a sequence of mean and mainly absent landlords into the hands of the people who live there.
Inverie, Knoydart's main settlement, is a string of white-washed dwellings clinging to the peninsular's southern coastline, backed by hillsides of regenerating woodland and rising steeply to stark granite ridges.
This far flung strand of Scotland's Atlantic seaboard was the April setting for a weekend music festival to celebrate the Knoydart Foundation's first ten years of existence.
