No 6 Mess Road, The Garrison, Shoeburyness, Essex
A period -style executive home set in the distinctive surrounds of historic Shoebury Garrison, providing a unique seafront retreat designed for spacious, contemporary living.
A historic coastal haven
This unique seafront retreat comprises two luxury houses, designed to provide spacious and contemporary yet character-filled living with sea views.
Overlooking an unspoilt beach, the properties are surrounded by beautiful landscaped grounds and ‘The Old Ranges’ nature reserve. Situated in an area of national importance steeped in more than 200 years of military history, this is an opportunity to own a truly unique home surrounded by a prestigious part of Britain’s heritage.
The Shoebury Garrison
The strategic site of Shoebury Garrison, at the mouth of the River Thames, has been a defensive position since the Iron Age when, in 894AD, a rampart was built to protect the village that lay behind. Historians believe that the Danish Vikings subsequently set up base here, when they tried to overrun the Saxons.
The Garrison as a military site dates back to 1797, when a signal station was erected at the start of the Napoleonic wars. Having housed Royal Artillery and Gunnery schools since the 1850s, and with protected historical buildings and a Conservation Area, Shoebury Garrison is now recognised as an area of national importance thanks to its fascinating history, architecture and archaeology.
Escape to the sea
Each beautifully built home enjoys an exclusive position on the coast. From the front door, it is just a few steps to a quiet and secluded beach with far-reaching and breathtaking sea views.
A world away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of London, The Shoebury Garrison is the quintessential seaside escape. The intoxicating scent of the sea, the hypnotising motion of the waves and the gentle rolling of pebbles provide the perfect setting for homes of such class and character.
Garrison residents can look forward to the refurbishment of the historical tennis courts in Mess Road and the new Garrison Spa, situated in the highly distinctive former Horseshoe Barracks.

Shoeburyness Garrison Walk 2010
Collection of photo from our annual walk around Shoeburyness Garrison aka Old Ranges - 24th January 2010
A bit of Shoeburyness town and beach. Essex. 14.09.1986.
This is another piece of video I've managed to save from an old video tape I did whilst on a visit to Shoeburyness back in Sep 1986. My dad was stationed here about 1958, and my other video here on youtube shows Campfields ( I believe known as the 'Birdcages), where we used to live. I was only about 3 years old at the time, and it's the earliest place that I can remember. Here's a link to my other video...
East beach shoeburyness
there are some good pics of the fast gun emplacements and the beach itself. i didn't bother taking any pics of the new housing estate on the former garrison. the whole thing is a travesty. the history of the former garrison has been destroyed.

getting on a random train || exploring Southend & Shoeburyness vlog
I was gripped by the spirit of spontaneous adventure and decided to leap onto a random train out of London. I ended up in Shoeburyness and struggled to find anything to entertain me, then went to Southend where I got brutally attacked by a squirrel and went to the end of the pier AND SAW SEALS! what a top notch day out.
if you enjoyed this, check out the next in the series where I visited a celebrity's grandparents in the lovely city of Peterborough:
