The Old Man of Hoy
Whilst on a client trip to the beautiful Orkney Islands in April 2015, I wanted to see one unique place above all else, The Old Man of Hoy.
Having crossed over on the foot ferry from Stromness I opted to walk the entire way from Moaness through the Rackwick glen valley and down to Rackwick bay, round the headland to see the Old Man. I was truly blessed that day with settled bright sunny conditions, ideal for some flying.
I was even more fortunate to hear of some climbers who where climbing that day; so not only did I manage to fly over and around the sea stack but the gods must have been on my side as the climbers had summited the stack as I was flying over!.
Well what a day it was..a fantastic hike, perfect flying conditions and footage of climbers resting atop the Old Man, could not have asked for a better day.
Enjoy..

Alone with the Old Man of Hoy on the Orkney Ferry
We just finished our Scotland shoot — three great new episodes are in the can. And that wraps up our entire Season 10 of “Rick Steves’ Europe.” A dozen new shows are coming your way starting this October. I am so excited to finally be able to share the fruits of this two-year-long project.
Saying goodbye to my crew, I enjoyed the relief of no more show production responsibilities. Heading south from Orkney, I hopped the ferry and pondered diving gannets, the Old Man of Hoy, and favorite ferry rides. What are some of your favorite ferry-ride experiences in Europe?

The Old Man of Hoy 2014 climbing road trip
In August 2014 I traveled to one of the most remote parts of the British Isles with my wife and 6 friends to climb the tallest and most iconic sea stack in the UK. This is a film to remember our trip and a gift to Gaz and Nic who both celebrated their 40th birthdays shortly afterwards!

Old Man of Hoy, Orkney Islands
Mid July, 2015, about 7:50 p.m. aboard the car ferry Hamnavoe, enroute to Stromness on the Orkney's Mainland island. Looking eastward against the evening sun coming from across the Atlantic Ocean. The fog lies on the top of the cliffs. This is the highest cliff area in the British Isles.

Hoy Boys - Rab Athletes Tom Randall and Callum Muskett head to Old Man of Hoy Scotland | Climbing
In the summer of 2013, Rab athletes Tom Randall and Calum Muskett set off to Scotland with little idea of where they were going. With the weather appalling across much of the country, the only dry place was the remote Orkney Isles off the north coast.
Two ferries and two days of travel took them to the iconic Old Man of Hoy, the highest and most famous sea stack in Britain. But that was only the beginning of the adventure. As it turned out, there's much more to Hoy than one lonely Old Man…

Michael Ross and family walking in Hoy
This is Michael on a day out with his family at 15 years old, the age he was at the time of Shamsuddin Mahmood's murder. He's clearly not the tall man police were looking for, the crimewatch episode ( although despite the difference in descriptions by witnesses to two separate incidents, they depicted both with the same actor as if they did. This was inaccurate. Discussion on the case here is turned off, but you can share your thoughts respectfully here -
