Paddington Arm (Grand Union Canal)
The Paddington Arm is one of London’s best kept secrets. Connecting Paddington to the main branch of the Grand Union Canal near Hayes, the arm slices through West London providing a green corridor frequented by both people and wildlife.
The Paddington Arm is a great place to take a break from the chaos of the city, cleaning your mind and lungs at the same time. Whether you’re interested in history and architecture, the inner city wildlife or you’re simply looking for an escape from everyday life, this stretch of canal will have something to offer.
The 14-mile long waterway is lined with evidence of its industrial past. From old factories and warehouses to the landing platforms at Kensal Rise Cemetery, where coffins used to arrive by narrowboat, the Paddington Arm is a history enthusiast’s dream.
However, the canal is hardly stuck in the past and as well as taking advantage of the traditional pubs along the towpath you can enjoy fine dining, trendy cafes and buzzing bars.

Chiltern End Barn, Harlington
Set in a plot of circa 0.3 of an acre and in an area of outstanding natural beauty, a delightful 4/5 detached bedroom barn conversion with amazing country views. The current vendors have considerably re-modelled, extended and upgraded the property to provide well planned yet versatile accommodation.
As you approach the property along the quiet country lane you are greeted by a set of wooden electric gates. The gates open on to a long gravel driveway, providing a large amount of parking, leading to a newly constructed oak framed double car port. Above the carport is a very useful office/bedroom with ensuite shower room.
As you enter the property you are immediately impressed by the beautiful English Heritage oak frame, vaulted ceiling and abundance of natural light, which continues to be somewhat of a feature throughout the property. The kitchen is beautifully fitted with a range of Shaker style units and “Honed Granite” work surfaces with a large and impressive island unit with Corian worktop. There is a range of fitted appliances and an electric three oven AGA. The natural Limestone tiles are heated with electric underfloor heating.
Off of the kitchen, you enter an inner hallway which in turn, leads to three double bedrooms, a family bathroom and ensuite shower room.
The opposite side of the kitchen is a stunning oak staircase, leading up to further bedrooms and down to further living accommodation. On the first floor there are two bedrooms and further family bathroom. The master bedroom is located to the front aspect with a stunning glazed gable end, taking advantage of those far reaching views.
The sitting room is also located to the front of the property with double doors opening out onto a large sun patio, ideal for alfresco dining. There is also a lovely wood burner, essential for a country barn conversion! The dining area is located behind the sitting room and offers a door into the utility room.
The gardens run parallel with the driveway and are mainly laid to lawn, there is also a most splendid patio area which takes in all the impressive views. The gardens are both private and totally enclosed.
The village itself is only a short walk along a nearby path where there is a small parade of shops including a general stores and hairdressers. Further major shopping available in nearby Barton, Flitwick or Ampthill. One of the biggest selling points of the village, is its mainline train station offering trains in St Pancras station in circa 44 minutes. We are advised that BT superfast broadband is available.

Hanwell, trains trains and more trains... - Skydronauts.uk
The Wharncliffe Viaduct is a brick-built viaduct that carries the Great Western Main Line railway across the Brent Valley, between Hanwell and Southall, Ealing, UK, at an elevation of 66 feet (20 m). The viaduct, built in 1836–7, was constructed for the opening of the Great Western Railway (GWR). It is situated between Southall and Hanwell stations, the latter station being only a very short distance away to the east.
The viaduct was the first major structural design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the first building contract to be let on the GWR project, and the first major engineering work to be completed. It was also the first railway viaduct to be built with hollow piers,[1] a feature much appreciated by a colony of bats which has since taken up residence within.
