Frederick Varley ( January 3, 1881- September 8, 1969)
Hired by the Canadian Government, Frederick Varley served as a war artist, in world war one. Later on in his life, he joined the group of seven, contributing his talent through portraits of women ,and war paintings. Frederick Varley's major contribution to Canada's art was in Belgium, B.C, Ottawa, and Toronto. Now 40 years after his death people still celebrate his wonderful art, and are able to see it in his art gallery in historic Unionville, minutes away from his old studio.

Carr (1871–1945) created bold and vibrant images of British Columbia’s Northwest Coast and its Native peoples. Among the most significant Canadian artists of the early twentieth century, she is also one of the few recognized North American women painters of this period.
Lisa Baldissera is an independent curator and writer. Her PhD research at Goldsmiths College, University of London, focuses on Carr’s years in England and contemporary art exhibition and theory.

Martial Preparedness! The whole country supports the efforts for future prosperity. People of Villages, Cities, Towns, Provinces and Princedoms hear the call of the Emperor and join the regional military command. Efforts are made to fortify the Great Wall to build it larger and extend it. Great weapons are developed with more well trained soldiers added to keep the enemies out of China. Children and food are our future. Better to face the enemy in a distant protected land than to fight them at our doorstep.
