Oslo Nightlife: Metal bars and rock venues
Let me show you the best bars for metal heads in Oslo! Visit the most popular venues for the rock and metal crowd. Norway is known as the birth place of black-metal, but the bars that actually play the music can be a bit hard to find. But they are there!
* Last Train (lasttrain.no)
This is the oldest rock bar in Oslo. It was started in 1984, and is still among the best. Most of the crowd that visits Last Train is a bit mature, but not exclusively. The venue is small but nice, and there is a pinball machine in the back. Many, many bands have played here over the years, including Turbonegre, BigBang, and Hellacopters. The music genre is rock in the broader sense of the term, mostly older stuff.
Rock In (rockin.no)
This is a large metal bar located in a basement just off Karl Johans gate, by Egertorget. It's as central as can be, but a bit hidden in a side street to Karl Johan. The age limit here is 20 year. Therefore it's a bit more popular among younger people, but there really are all kinds of people here. The beer here is particularly cheap, and the vibe is good.
Fiasco (fiasco.no)
Fiasco, or Cafe Fiasco is a pub with an odd location in between the bus terminal (Galleri Oslo), the train station, and Plaza Hotel. They have a large selection of craft beer from tap, and great burgers. The music genre is rock and metal, and the crowd is mixed.
Aye Aye Club (stuntsquad.no/ayeayeclub)
This pirate themed pub is a well known drinking establishment in Oslo for metal heads. They also serve pub food here, given that it's not too late in the evening. There is a large back yard with tables where you can smoke. Normally in the weekends there's a DJ and the vibe is relaxed.
Mono (cafemono.no)
This is a very well known pseudo-rock bar in Oslo. It is located at the corner of Youngstorget, which is a square with lots of good nightlife venues. The music is mostly rock, but also other stuff. The theme is dark, dark, and ugly wallpaper. After midnight there will be a long queue to get in. There is also a large smoking area in the backyard. The crowd is mixed, mostly younger people. This is also a concert venue.
Kniven (knivenbar.no)
The word Kniven translates into The Knife. The owner got stabbed in a street not far from here back in 2008, and was awarded compensation money from the attacker. He then used the money to start this bar, which since has become very popular. This bar is a bit more metal than for example Mono or Fiasco. The crowd also look a bit more metally as well. It's not a large venue, but the layout is nice. It's easy to get in touch with people at this place. They have the regular Frydenlund beer on tap, but also Brooklyn lager, Bulmers cider, and a guest brew. There is a DJ in the weekend. Along with Rock In, this is my favorite metal bar in Oslo.

【奥斯陆·Kontrast】米其林一星 Michelin Restaurant // 挪威 Oslo Norway 2019.02.14

The bathing complex features a beach, an enclosed salt water pool, and a salt water pool with swim lanes. There is also a dive tower and a life guard service.
Behind the beach starts a promenade that runs along the fjord to towards the Oslo Opera. There are restaurants, bars and coffeeshops. Featured in this film was:
Dock Espressobar
Mirabel restaurant
Cargo restaurant
At Friluftshuset Sørenga you can rent kayaks which you can use for paddling in the Oslo Fjord. The webpage for the kayak rental is unfortunately only in Norwegian:
Sørenga sjøbad is pen all year around, but bathing at night is prohibited. As of 2018, the opening hours are 06-22.

Oslo city tour| A day in Oslo| Shivering Cold| Travel Norway| Grunneloka| Opera House Oslo
#OsloNorway
Oslo city tour:
What you are seeing right now is the first snowfall of my life, yup! Enroute Oslo center, you get inside a train, aur ye mai hindi me bolungi, kuch darshak bahar ke hain aur bahar valo k saamne apne ghar ko chotta nahi dikhate, par pehli baar maine kisi train me ek vending machine dekhi hai! India me hota to log pehle chizze churate, aur phir koi ye dabba hi chura leta!
Anyway, Oslo in winters is all snow, white land, white leaves, white sky…and occasionally some really pretty red houses. Shivering cold!
In freezing -7 degrees, I just decided to walk to the Oslo opera House which is right next to the railway station but for some reason you have to take the longest route.
So, I reached but I couldn’t go inside. Nothing in Oslo Norway opens before noon!
You don’t wanna wear your cute shoes in Norway, do not underestimate the Nordics! The cobblestoned road with snow is only meant for snowboots, and you’ll see people falling down a lot while they are walking around in Oslo. If you fall down, just get up, smile and keep going. “Everyone here slips everyday”.
However, I kinda wanted to just be outside. I was in the middle of a snow flurry, that was new. I know, I know…could have just seen it at the Himalayas, not as far as Norway but everytime I travel inside India is not in the cold season. So, this was my real encounter with cold! So, every once in a while, a flake would fall on my gloves and I would just keep looking at it. I was shivering, but I did not want to get in and leave the snow hitting my body.
It was super cold to remove your gloves and take a selfie, but okay! I really love the architecture, Oslo is the kinda city you just want to visit. First thing is how blue the sky is, like how! And second thing is how beautiful every place looks! I wouldn’t recommend going in any museums coz I amnot the museum person, but even if you just walk around, try coffee and skolleboller, Oslo’s comforting!
The second stop on our city tour, and you can always take the city tour bus in oslo. But if you ask me personally, the best way to see a place is to walk it or cycle it. So, I walked it out till the Royal Palace. Judge me all you want but this was my first European city, so I obviously stopped random norwegians to click my pics.
Another thing is people here are super nice, don’t buy into anyone telling you Scandinavians are cold. Some of the warmest people ever, like I remember I just entered a tram to Grunneloka and two men stood there debating for 5 minutes who should take the seat…both of them wanted to stand so that the other person can take the seat…like who does that! But anyway, I just ended up sitting there coz why not!
So, the snow stopped falling down and made way for the sun to come up. I went to this beautiful harbor with a Turkish guy I met. This is where the ships have their cute sun bath, and throughout this capital city, there is such peace! Like if you live in Delhi, and then you come to oslo, it feels like another planet…because 3 people on the streets is clearly traffic in Oslo.
Anyway, Oslo can be pretty expensive and Norway is the world’s fourth most expensive country, so yeah, if you want good food just go to Grunneloka. The only place where you won’t get free wifi, but you’ll get good cheap food, and in Norway, cheap food is what 30E that’s really cheap!
And this is where they make the world’s most ghee stuffed paalak paneer. It is going to sound weird but whatever, the best paalak paneer of my life was in Oslo. Like all our weddings, restaurants can just give it up because a Pakistani woman in Norway does it better!
So long story short- walk in oslo, eat that paalak paneer, embrace the snow with the sun, and look at the ice sheets chiseled cut on the river side. That is the first snow flake I ever had in my hands.
