Everything is very, very fresh that we can get our hands on. You look around, we're surrounded by water. We've got lovely fields, we've got great game, venison runs freely, so I think that's the main thing, it's the raw ingredients and I often say that Skye is definitely a chef's paradise. If you like cooking and if you like using top end ingredients Skye is certainly a fantastic area for that.

There is a very vibrant local economy. It's maybe quite rare in terms of the Highlands and the Islands that the population here is relatively stable and it's a place that people seem to love to come to and return to and so I think Skye is perhaps a little ahead of other places in realising that there's a market there of people visiting the island, people staying on the island who want good food and they the local producers, the local restaurants and cafes have been good in responding to that demand.

34. Nick Wyke, Food and Drink Editor, The Times Online:
What I like about the food and drink on Skye is that its food that really matches its environment, so it's a very kind of earthy, wild place and the food is just that, so there's wild venison for example, there's great seafood, fabulous seafood, just fresh out of the loch and lovely mussels, for example which are just the sort of dish you want after a morning's climb up one of the Cullen Hills.

LEADIN:
World famous for its picturesque lochs and mountains, the Isle of Skye isn't the first place people normally think of when it comes to gourmet food.
Scotland often suffers a reputation for offering bland, deep fried dishes that do not attract the finer palette.

48 hours on the ISLE OF SKYE
We only had one full day on Skye, so we try to cram two days’ worth of itinerary into it!
We visited the Talisker distillery and the beautiful bay from which it takes its name, ate sea food at the Oyster Shed and walked to Kilt Rock and Neast falls from our brilliantly situated AirBnb.
We climbed the Old Man of Storr, a 50 m tall rock pinnacle and explored the Quiraing, a jumble of rock towers and grassy domes formed in ancient volcanic flows and subsequent slippages.
A narrow roads took us to Neist Point on the west coast, where sea birds cling to the dark rocks below the picturesque lighthouse and the outer Hebrides islands are visible low on the horizon.
We were warned of crowds on Skye, but perhaps we were ahead of them, as we never saw more than one or two tour buses at a time, and often hiked alone for hours.
Isle of Skye Scotland Cost of Living | Grocery Store Haul
In this Isle of Skye Scotland cost of living grocery store haul video we break down what things will cost you when visiting. We were very surprised how cheap everything seemed to us. The most economical way to visit the Scottish Highlands is to have a place with a refrigerator that you can store groceries because it is much cheaper than eating out.

A Guide to Food & Drink in Scotland
Scotland is famed worldwide for some of its delicious local delicacies and fragrant malt whiskies, as well as our love for haggis, fish & chips, and other deep-fried delights. However, there’s a lot more to Scotland’s natural larder than meets the eye.
In all corners of the country, Scotland offers delicious dishes. From Michelin-star restaurants in the capital, cosy country pubs in the Highlands, to freshly caught seafood on the coast, and amazing street-food stalls in the cities – there’s a huge variety to choose from, so why not taste them all?
Explore regular farmers’ markets in various cities, as well as towns and villages, for hand-reared and fresh local produce that’ll be sure to get your taste buds tingling. Enjoy a range of meats, including lamb, venison, beef, and game, or seafood such as fresh salmon or trout, or sample some cheese, artisan chocolates, jams, pickles, breads and much more.
Speaking of farmers, our farms raise some of the highest quality produce that is used across the country in prestigious restaurants and atmospheric pubs alike. Why not try some mouth-watering Ayrshire bacon, Aberdeen Angus steak or tender Scottish lamb? Farmers on North Ronaldsay, Orkney feed their lamb on seaweed, giving the meat a distinctive, delicious taste.
Are you a sucker for seafood? Then fear not, as our fresh Scottish waters and surrounding seas are home to a variety of seafood, including mussels, oysters, shellfish, cod, haddock and more, which are all freshly-caught and served in local pubs and seafood restaurants across the country. . .
Who doesn’t love a tipple… or two? Our single malt whiskies are rich in flavour, each with their own distinct tasting notes and hints. With over 100 active distilleries, it’s no wonder we have so many varieties.
Scotland also specialises in craft beer, gin and ales with many quirky bars, pubs and restaurants offering a broad selection of beverages, with many well-known Scottish gin brands in the mix too, including Gordon’s, Tanqueray, and Hendricks, to name a few.
Wherever you decide to visit in Scotland, you won’t be far from award-winning local produce, homemade beers and ales, traditional haggis, neeps and tatties, as well as fields of crops, fruit and veg that make up our delicious dishes.

Ultimate Guide To The Isle of Skye Scotland | Old Man of Storr and Much More | Scottish Highlands
We have been to the Isle of Skye on three separate occasions and have done many things on Skye. A couple of the most memorable experiences were hiking The Old Man of Storr, hiking The Quiraing, seeing the northern lights near Fairy Pools, and experiencing the strongest wind ever at Duntulum Castle!
The Isle of Skye is one of the most spectacular places on this planet, but the weather can be very temperamental, as you can see in our Isle of Skye Video! Even with visiting this highlands isle as many times as us, we were still confronted with extreme wind and rain each time--it's basically inevitable in Scotland!
So no matter what time of year you go, expect a little bit of the Scottish weather but don't worry, it's actually quite fun! The only advice we can give you on the time of year to go is that the summer is peak season and they titrate the number of people they allow onto the island if you are a tourist! So look at going in the shoulder seasons or book your accommodations well in advance and leave early to beat the traffic on those narrow Scottish Isle of Skye roads!
Cheers!

The UK shellfish industry is a relatively small-scale and specialised industry, very much in harmony with the marine environment. The continued presence of this industry provides reassurance that UK coastal waters are in good health - and in good hands.

Hi! The holiday in the UK was awesome! I want to advise you of couple of places to relax on the Isle of Sky in Scotland. Check the trains and buses schedule before traveling there. We decided to travel there by car after considering these. It took us about 3 hours to get there from Inverness the Highlands capital.

Island #1: The Isle of Skye
This is the first video diary of my 82 islands trip and sadly it's not as positive as I'd hoped...
I've started on Skye... where better to begin than the island I call home?
Frustratingly, this video isn't about what I wanted for the intro to 82 islands but it does show exactly why it's important to spread the word about Leave No Trace.
One thing I wanted to do on these visits is leave the islands a little better than I found them and part of this meant clearing up these wet wipes after my morning swim in the waterfall and covering the poop itself with stones -yuck!
Anyone who leaves stuff like this for others to clean up needs a good dose of karma!
Literally a crappy beginning...

Pearl Resort Sunday Brunch Slideshow
The Sunday brunch at the Pearl is top notch!!!
All you can eat seafood including oysters and crab legs, carving station for beef and turkey as well as an omelette station, chocolate fountain and other standards for lunch/breakfast. Bottomless mimosas and champagne along with coffee and standard drinks.
If you want to spend a little extra but get an out of this world brunch that's worth every penny I highly suggest.
I'm not sure if this is offered in the off-season, however, so if it's wintertime I suggest calling to verify they have it during those months.
Seafood Restaurants - Jack's Oyster Bar in Jack London Square
Unlike most other seafood restaurants in Jack London Square, Jack's Oyster bar serves 6 to 12 different kinds of oysters daily. As impressive as the oyster selection is, the restaurant's most popular dish is the octopus, which washes down easy with a glass of craft beer from the tap. The bar's adult beverage menu specializes in clear martinis mixed with different vodkas and gins, as well as a variety of specialty cocktails.

Set Sail for the Scottish Isles
The seaport town of Oban is only a stones-throw away from Glasgow, and when you’re there, you need to fill up on some of the freshest seafood in all of the nation. Then hop on a ferry and head straight for the Scottish Isles. Join 1st Look guest host George Oliphant as he strolls along the white stand beaches and kayaks through the turquoise waters that surround the beautiful Island of Barra. And finally, joined by acclaimed actor and Scotsmen, Alan Cumming, pair the perfect pint with the majesty, the history and serenity of The Scottish Isles.
A Hidden Beach on The Isle of Skye
A Hidden Beach on The Isle of Skye
A final adventure on The Isle of Skye, and we all headed to the beach. Around three kilometers from the road end, we all trekked into this secluded and hidden beach (hidden from view - not a hidden secret ! The full car park indicated a busy place and a google search finds this beach !) . The beach hides itself until the very last turn in the path and what a gem! Turquoise waters and white sands made all the effort in reaching the beach worthwhile. A stunning location on a Scottish Island where beaches usually come second to the mountains...
