REEL CHANGE at the Palace Cinema in Cinderford
From the world of film to the world of digital. From the seats its obvious that digital wins for clarity and quality. Yes the time it takes to set up the show is reduced, yes the correct lens is now automatically swung in to place. the lamp is switched on by a line of code and the trailers are dropped on to timelines. But some like the warm sound of vinyl some like the clattering of the projector chewing miles of sprockets. But the art of being a projectionist is now taught in minutes not months. Real change is a foot at the Palace Cinema in Cinderford but there will be no more reel change.

Shiner @ The Woolpack, Smeeth, 06/06/1996 - Size of a Cow (Wonderstuff cover) 6 of 29
In 1996, the Ashford based pre-Britpop cover band 'Slam' - being Pat Lukehurst (Lead Guitar), Mark Chappell (Drums), Gary Harrington (Rhythm Guitar) and Steve Roffey (Bass) - teamed up with energetic frontman Steve Howard to create the Ashford Based Britpop cover band 'Shiner'. Incredibly. it was discovered shortly therafter that this name was already in use, so the band became 'Crete Road East' in the absence of a better idea. This show was recorded at The Woolpack Inn in Smeeth, near Ashford, Kent, on 6th June 1996 by Martin Vincent.

Cinderford Northern Quarter legal challenge over area's wildlife
A legal hearing has begun which could see plans for Cinderford's Northern Quarter challenged over claims that planners had not paid enough attention to the area's wildlife.
Forest of Dean District Council declined to comment ahead of the two-day High Court hearing in London.
When a Friends of the Earth group launched its legal challenge in April last year, the authority said it was surprised and disappointed.
'Very important place'
Campaigners argue the district council adopted the plans without having undertaken an appropriate assessment of the core strategy.
If the authority loses the hearing, it would have to reconsider its core strategy and area action plan which were approved by government inspectors in January last year.
Friends of the Earth spokesperson Mary Newton said: This site has European protected species. There are 12 different species of bat recorded here, there are great crested newt and dormice.
Another campaigner, Simon Glover from the Butterfly Conservation group, said the area was good for wildlife because of the individual ecosystems all working together.
We have got a number of lakes, a number of open grassland areas and then the woodland, so it is a very important place, he said.
It is no coincidence that the bats are here - they are here because of the moths and all the other interactions of wildlife.
