Handy Heater - Wall Outlet Space Heater Review - Does It Work?
Today the As Seen On TV Wall Outlet Space Heater gets a full trials review.
Product Link:
INTRO:
Welcome , During some late night television viewing I was constantly being reminded of a little space heater called the Handy Heater. It's a small room warmer that plugs directly into a wall receptacle that eliminates traditional floor standing model heaters and the wires that they are attached to.
As a huge gadget guy I headed out and bought the handy heater to test here for this show. Anyone that says TV advertising does not work is sorely wrong, as it has convinced me to go out and buy one just to try it out. NOW, Lets open the box up and test out this heater for ourselves and see if it's worthy of the $30.00 price tag.
UN-BOXING & FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The box claims that this heater is great for Garages, Bedrooms, Living Room, Powder Rooms, Dorm, Office and more. It also states that it has a full 350 Watts of Power. Of course the most appealing feature of the heater is it's size as compared to a full sized electrical free standing model. The plastic housing seems durable and well thought out and the constructions has a modern ecstatically pleasing look.
FEATURES:
The wall plug can rotate 180 degrees to fit any three prong outlet.
There is a large power switch on the right side of the unit for off on conditions. The front panel has an Digital LED display that is lit. I noted that it is purposefully angled for optimized viewing from a baseboard height receptacle while standing.
When the heater is running it displays the temperature the unit is set to. The control panel offers a thermostat that ranges from 60-90 degrees Fahrenheit. A programmable 1-12 hour timer that will turn off the heat when the timer has expired. A Speed Selection switch that offers a high or low setting.
Other features that are listed include a safe ceramic heating element, Stay cool plastic housing and auto shut off circuitry.
TESTING:
POWER USAGE - I will now place a wattage usage meter on the heaters mains line to test it's actual power consumption of it's advertised claim of 350 watts. Checking at High and Low Speeds.
I would like to point out that most freestanding electric heaters are rated at 1500 watts on their high settings and this unit is less than a quarter of that in terms of power consumption. The more watts consumed using the similar technology of the ceramic element means that you can expect this unit to provide about one quarter of the heat output compared to a traditional full sized unit.
HEAT OUTPUT – Using a digital thermometer I will now test the temperature of the heating element itself as compared to a traditional 1500 watt unit. I will also test the temperature of the surrounding case to determine if a safe temperature is applied to avoid any melting of the case or cause for concern of surrounding items (walls, floors).
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I must rate the performance for what it is rather than what it is not. This is a small heater so heating a full sized room would not be practical for this unit contrary to what the box literature suggest.
My opinion on this heater is that if you are wanting to heat a very small space that is well insulated you will be happy with its performance. If you have ever used a free standing models before and were comfortable with it's lowest setting this will be a familiar experience. The direct “plug into outlet” design is one of it's best features and I personally like it's overall look, and function of controls. The fan is a bit noisy but not of the variety of a high pitched sound that can be very annoying. If you have small children I would not get this product as the front element proved to be near 200 degrees that is enough to burn and it would also be tempting for a small child to play with. I would also consider where this unit will be placed very carefully because curtains or other flammable materials that come into contact could ignite given the right conditions.
The output of the heat is more than adequate for it's size and using it under a desk to keep your feet warm work work nicely.
If you are looking for a heater to warm an entire room on a regular basis I believe you would be better off getting a traditional free standing unit that provides a full 1500 watts.

Air Conditioning Anywhere?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) --- Today's Mystery Video -
Evapolar (USA Link) -
Evapolar (International) -
This little thing is called the Evapolar. It's a desktop air conditioner that you can place anywhere without a need to vent it like a traditional air conditioner. It's not as powerful as a standard air conditioner, but it's a cool solution if you need to create a microclimate.
From the manufacturer -
Evapolar emulates a similar natural air cooling process unlike most air conditioners that simply create a strong flow of cold dry air that may lead to catching a cold.
Evapolar captures large particles of dust from the airflow making it easier for you to breathe thus improving your productivity.
No need for installation – just plug it in and feel the sensation. All you need is a wall socket to immediately feel the cooling effects of this portable air conditioning unit. No screws, drills, or heavy lifting required.

CONCRETE BOOM PUMP
Working early in the morning
Starting out at day’s first light
He’s got a lot of work to do, yeah
And he works with all of his might
Once at the work site he sets things up
Carefully getting his outriggers placed
He’ll be pumping tons of concrete
pumping tons of concrete all day
So he’s gotta have a steady base
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom, boo-oo-oom
Mix trucks load up the concrete
His hopper’s filled again and again
Then from this central location
He reaches out his boom and extends
He manages the pour from below
Properly regulating how it flows
He maneuvers his robotic, maneuvers his robotic arm, oh
Yeah, it’s guided by remote control
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom, boo-oo-oom
Some trucks boast impressive pump rates
Beyond a hundred yards for every hour
The pressure this requires is great
It takes a massive surplus of power
See how his arms have multiple parts
Each one articulated and so strong
Flexible joints keep them together
his joints keep them together, and woh!
Some arms are two hundred feet long!
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom, boo-oo-oom
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom
Concrete Boom Pump
Concrete Pump, Concrete Pump
Boo-oo-oom, boo-oo-oom

SUMMARY
=======
The technological and industrial history of the United States describes the United States' emergence as one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world. The availability of land and literate labor, the absence of a landed aristocracy, the prestige of entrepreneurship, the diversity of climate and a large easily accessed upscale and literate free market all contributed to America's rapid industrialisation. The availability of capital, development by the free market of navigable rivers, and coastal waterways, and the abundance of natural resources facilitated the cheap extraction of energy all contributed to America's rapid industrialization. Fast transport by the very large railroad built in the mid-19th century, and the Interstate Highway System built in the late 20th century, enlarged the markets and reducing shipping and production costs. The legal system facilitated business operations and guaranteed contracts. Cut off from Europe by the embargo and the British blockade in the War of 1812 (1807–15), entrepreneurs opened factories in the Northeast that set the stage for rapid industrialization modeled on British innovations.
From its emergence as an independent nation, the United States has encouraged science and innovation. As a result, the United States has been the birthplace of 161 of Britannica's 321 Greatest Inventions, including items such as the airplane, internet, microchip, laser, cellphone, refrigerator, email, microwave, personal computer, Liquid-crystal display and light-emitting diode technology, air conditioning, assembly line, supermarket, bar code, automated teller machine, and many more. The early technological and industrial development in the United States was facilitated by a unique confluence of geographical, social, and economic factors. The relative lack of workers kept United States wages nearly always higher than corresponding British and European workers and provided an incentive to mechanize some tasks. The United States population had some semi-unique advantages in that they were former British subjects, had high English literacy skills, for that period (over 80% in New England), had strong British institutions, with some minor American modifications, of courts, laws, right to vote, protection of property rights and in many cases personal contacts among the British innovators of the Industrial Revolution. They had a good basic structure to build on. Another major advantage, which the British lacked, was no inherited aristocratic institutions. The eastern seaboard of the United States, with a great number of ri ...

The eastern seaboard of the United States, with a great number of rivers and streams along the Atlantic seaboard, provided many potential sites for constructing textile mills necessary for early industrialization. The technology and information on how to build a textile industry was largely provided by Samuel Slater (1768–1835) who emigrated to New England in 1789. He had studied and worked in British textile mills for a number of years and immigrated to the United States, despite restrictions against it, to try his luck with U.S. manufacturers who were trying to set up a textile industry. He was offered a full partnership if he could succeed—he did. A vast supply of natural resources, the technological knowledge on how to build and power the necessary machines along with a labor supply of mobile workers, often unmarried females, all aided early industrialization. The broad knowledge of the Industrial Revolution and Scientific revolution helped facilitate understanding for the construction and invention of new manufacturing businesses and technologies. A limited government that would allow them to succeed or fail on their own merit helped.
After the close of the American Revolution in 1783, the new government continued the strong property rights established under British rule and established a rule of law necessary to protect those ...
