Merther, in the parish of St Michael Penkevil, nr Truro, Cornwall
After having a couple of pints of Cornish ale at the Wheel Inn (note the slight stumble at the wayside cross), I walked from Tresillian towards Merther, passing through Treffry. After walking about the ruinous church, just a little further up the lane (due east), I found, what I can only assume is the holywell of St Coan. J. Meyrick mentions only that there was no remains, though his grid reference is wrong, so perhaps he did not find it, cuz there definately is a well there, liken to that at St Anthony's church, Place. I felt a definate sanctity there! Merther is the Cornish for Martyr. I'm sure I've read about St Coan, though at the moment, I can't find anything about him. Shall endeavour to do so and update this description asap. I then walk further towards St Michael Penkevil, to find Fenton(cornish for fountain)Gollan (could this be Colan), this holywell I could not find, neither could J. Meyrick. I shall try again...
