On this episode of Breaking Trail, Coyote finds an extremely blue and quite possibly new species of Crayfish!
While adventuring in the back hills of West Virginia with herpetologist Tim Brust the team set their sites on encountering this rare mountain gem by sifting through rock outcrops where water seeps pour out of the mountainside.
Unlike most crayfish species these live underground and not in the mountain streams and rivers like many of their cousins. However finding them is much easier said than done.
So will the team help researchers in their discovery of this new creature?
Get ready to find out!
HUGE THANKS to Tim Brust of ESI for all of his help in making this episode possible. And an extra special THANKS to Dr. Zac Loughman of West Liberty University for his help in describing this new species.

TOP 10 Best Places To Start A New Life
TOP 10 Best Places To Start A New Life
Packing up your life and moving somewhere completely new is not an easy task – but it just may be exactly what you need. Go somewhere where the climate or culture better fits your tastes and personality. There are many places in the world which very few people ever think about when contemplating a change like this. Here are 10 of the Best Places To Start A New Life.
Suva, Fiji
Living in Fiji can be cheap or expensive depending on the lifestyle you chose to follow. If you want the city life but on a smaller scale, then Suva, the capital, is for you. Fiji is consistently ranked in the top five for cost of living, quality of life and friendliness of the people. It’s ideal for anybody starting to become tired of the fast-paced city life they’re used to, without giving up everything they know. In Suva, you can find apartments and houses from just $250 a month, with more expensive and luxury options available too.
Florianopolis, Brazil
Nothing says “fresh start” like Brazil. Positive reports calling lush “Floripa” one of Brazil’s best cities to live in has influenced people from all around the world to move here, creating a vibe as cosmopolitan as it is tropical. It has great infrastructure, many job possibilities, especially in technology and tourism, and a seemingly universal willingness to celebrate anything at any time. Life here is as convenient as it is sweet. Plus, the island has 42 beaches.
Santorini, Greece
There are not many places in the world where you can enjoy exquisitely clear waters while perched on the rim of a massive active volcano in the middle of the sea. Santorini, or any other island part of the Greek Cyclades, are a dream come true. Candy-coloured houses carved into cliffs, sapphire waters, gleaming white buildings topped with half-spheres... These islands truly have a character of their own. Here you’ll find peace as you roam the black sand beaches or watch the legendary sunsets, which seem tinted with every shade of an artist’s palette.
Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
Full of beautiful architecture, colourful houses, narrow cobblestone streets, museums, forts and ocean views, Old San Juan is a perfect place to just pause and find yourself. Puerto Rican people are friendly, welcoming and very nice. They'll guide you and help you to get settled when you arrive and they are happy to answer any questions you need answering.
Avarua, Cook Islands
Located about 2,000 kilometres north east of New Zealand, the tropical beaches of Avarua are no less gorgeous than those of the Cyclades or Florianopolis. You can rent an apartment here for just $130 a month. The island also attracts comparatively few tourists: around 100,000 foreigners visit every year, compared to the eight million who go to Hawaii. So you won’t have crowds of people spoiling your enjoyment of Avarua’s attractions — which include observing the population of whales (The Aquatic Marine Mammal – not the country), going for long relaxing walks, and enjoying the amazing scenery. The only catch is that foreigners aren’t allowed to buy property on the island, although they can rent it for up to 60 years.
Koh Thonsáy, Cambodia
This small island in southern Cambodia is a real paradise of jungles and beaches. The population here is so low that it’s possible to find accommodation for a ridiculously small amount of money. You can spend your time relaxing on the beach, or exploring the jungle caves. For just $5, the fishermen will cook you a delicious meal made from freshly-caught fish and crab. Other seafood products will cost you no more than $1-2 here. The one drawback is that the island’s beaches are not well-kept tourist spots, but essentially areas of wilderness infrequently taken over by wild dogs or other animals. A place for those who really want to get away from civilisation.
The Pearl Islands, Panama
An amazing archipelago lying thirty kilometres to the west of mainland Panama. A huge number of pearls were once mined there; at another time pirates used it as their hiding place. Now, it’s become a haven full of wonderful resorts used by the local population. You can rent a small house here by the sea for around $300 a month. The Pearl Islands are ideal for those who want to escape from the world. In terms of the scenery, it’s probably one of the most impressive places on the planet.
Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
This little place is nestled in a valley in northern Bulgaria. Veliko Tarnovo is undoubtedly one of the most agreeable places on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, often called the Bulgarian Riviera. It’s as beautiful as France, but here a bottle of wine will cost you just 80 cents...

Boutique Wine & Olive Farm For Sale - Stellenbosch
Have you been looking for an extraordinary boutique wine estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West?
I have a joint mandate on this exclusive wine farm which offers the best of Cape Winelands living – a private vineyard and olive sanctuary build on 36 hectares of prime land.
The French chateau inspired manor house, affording all of today’s desired amenities, is build overlooking a dam allowing for endless vineyard and panoramic mountain views.
The farm has 22,4 ha Shiraz vines and 4 ha of 4 different olives varietals. Beau Belle produces its own top grade olive oil from 2000 olive trees and sells it at a few discerning outlets to patrons.
The farm also produces award winning Shiraz wine from grapes from its own vineyards – utilizing an outside cellar’s production facilities.
The manor house’s luxury features includes chandeliers sourced from Chateau’s in France, Royal Albert baths and washbasins in all bathrooms, solid smoked wooden floors and stairways, a central vacuum system and a double storey entrance hall. The manor house has a lift giving easy access to all levels (cellar to the second or top floor).
The farm also has a 50 seater chapel in the manor’s rose, lavender and fynbos garden which is rented out for intimate weddings – complete with its own fireplace and fitted with French furniture. The chapel has also been used by the owners for small services.
The manor house is a well-known venue to selective patrons to attend musical evenings and a once a year Masquerade Ball. During these musical events top South African artists have been featured.
A beautiful plunge pool is located in the private garden adjacent to the northward looking terrace. The garden offers a variety of secluded areas with fountains and trees to soak in the peacefulness of the area.
The main house has excellent security - including an alarm system with a security guard patrolling on a bicycle.
This property is a dream come true for the true connoisseur - combining a magnificent lifestyle in the heartland of the most beautiful countryside in South Africa with a unique business opportunity.
Possible future improvements or business applications:
The chateau lends itself to be converted into a very exclusive Boutique Guest Hotel and complimented with a fully-fledged top end wedding venue.
There is already a development plan available to create more cottages, a conference facility, artisan brewery and a cellar with a tasting facility.

Mountaintop views in Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness Colorado!
From Wilderness.net:
Introduction
The United States Congress designated the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness in 1978 and it now has a total of 82,513 acres. All of this wilderness is located in Colorado and is managed by the Forest Service. The Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness is bordered by the Mount Massive Wilderness to the east.
Description
Snuggled in between the more spectacular Colorado Wildernesses of Holy Cross on the north, Maroon Bells-Snowmass on the west, and Collegiate Peaks on the south, Hunter-Fryingpan lies all but forgotten. It rises to the Continental Divide, sharing its eastern border and the divide with Mount Massive Wilderness. The two are one geographically speaking, and almost became one legislatively. Holding the headwaters of Hunter Creek and the Fryingpan River, many streams in this area provide excellent habitats for large numbers of trout. Here you'll find many of the unnamed and tortured peaks of the Williams Mountains. Forests of aspen in the lower elevations, as well as spruce and fir higher up, are thick and dark, and open on alpine tundra dappled colorfully with summer wildflowers. In the silence of this Wilderness, you'll probably see wildlife that includes elk, mule deer, and secretive smaller, fur-bearing animals. A rich forest of 8,300 acres along Spruce Creek on the northwest side was added to the original Wilderness in 1993. About 65 miles of trail cross the area, climbing up drainages into the Williams Mountains. The Lost Man Trail up Lost Man Creek crosses South Fork Pass and continues down the South Fork of the Fryingpan River (about 10 miles distance), providing access to the heart of the Wilderness. Many opportunities for solitude exist here.
Beacon Island Resort
This 6-storey hotel was renovated in 2003 and comprises a total of 200 rooms, including 8 suites. The hotel has a garden, a 24-hour reception with a hotel safe, a currency exchange, and a lift. Within the hotel there is also a newspaper stand, a bar, a hairdressing salon, a selection of shops, a TV room, a restaurant (with highchairs for children) and an Internet connection. Guests may take advantage of room service, the doctor on call, the car park and bike hire. Built on a rocky promontory jutting into the warm Indian Ocean, this hotel's setting is arguably one of the best on the South African coastline. The majestic Outeniqua Mountains form a dramatic backdrop to the hotel and the unspoilt Tsittsikama forest and the resort town of Plettenberg Bay are just minutes away. The hotel is designed for pure relaxation and is the perfect holiday destination, attracting visitors from all over the world. It is located right next to the beach and is only some 3 km from various shopping and entertainment venues.
