King Charles Steps Through Time
King Charles Steps in Kings Street at Brecon, are a cobbled footway associated with the visit of King Charles I to the town during the Civil War in August 1645. The King stayed with royalist supporter Colonel Herbert Price, who was governor of the town, at the nearby Priory House (now the Cathedral Resource Centre) on the night of the 5th of August. The King's Bedroom is now used as an office, where pictures of him are hung on the walls. Here he wrote a letter to his son, The Prince of Wales, Whensoever you find yourself in apparent danger of falling into the rebel's hands, convey yourself to France, and there you will be under your mother's care. In Wales, he found little support and observed, The hearts of the people of Wales, are as hard and rocky as their country.
The following day, on the 6th of August, he is said to have rode/marched up these steps towards Hay-on-Wye to visit Sir
Henry Williams at Old Gwernyfed, on the way to go to the relief of Hereford, which was besieged by a Scots army. Some say that King Charles ran up these steps in order to escape from parliamentarians during the Civil War, but whether the King actually ascended the steps is another historic matter entirely!

Brecon Mountain Railway - Pontsticill to Pant 01
I visited the BMR for the first time recently, and was lucky to be able to get on the back coach to film the view from the rear of the train, from the station at Pontsticill Reservoir to Pant, where the journey began. The audio could have been better, with less clanking and tourists talking in the background, but it's the view which is important.
In case you're wondering, to pronounce Pontsticill - try saying 'Pont STi-Ki(th)' with the emphasise on the capital letters. The th in brackets should be said like you're about to say 'Lime' or 'Lonely' but instead just pronounce the 'lu' sound of the L with an H - like a bit of a hiss.
Part two is the final minute of the journey...

SEREN Magnetic Storyboard
Welcome to the SEREN training video on how to use the SEREN magnetic storyboard.
This video is aimed at health professionals who are involved in delivering the SEREN educational programme and introduces one of our supporting educational resources – the magnetic storyboard. The storyboard is used with young people in Key Stage 3 & 4 (aged 11 years and older) to help visually explain some of the abstract ideas of diabetes, as well as being a helpful tool for checking the understanding of the young person. During this video, Sally (Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse) will demonstrate how it can be used to explain what happens to blood glucose and insulin when food is eaten in a child without diabetes and with those with Type 1 diabetes.
The Children and Young People's Wales Diabetes Network (and Brecon Group) connects all healthcare staff in Wales working with children and young people who have diabetes.
The Network provides opportunities for diabetes teams across Wales to:
- share best practice and learn from one another through regular network meetings.
- Connect with the wider community of healthcare professionals working across England through the national Children and Young People’s Diabetes Network.
- Link with organisations, including charities and service user groups, which are working to improve the lives of children childhood diabetes
- Contribute to important research and practical improvement programmes
- Provide advice and insight to government health policies that affect children and young people with diabetes

The Farmhouse, Ciliau Aeron near Aberaeron, Wales
More Information:
Situated on the owner’s 130-acre organic farm in beautiful rolling countryside, down a single lane farm track of about 0.5 miles, these wonderful holiday cottages are a perfect rural retreat, with fabulous views of the Aeron Valley.
Just three miles from the scenic Welsh coastline, whose sandy beaches stretch for miles in both directions, these cottages offer four star-rated, beautifully presented accommodation, each with an enclosed private lawned garden with a barbecue and patio area.
There is also a large shared lawn and a children’s play area, plus a games room with a log fire, pool table, table tennis and games console, allowing you to join in all the fun with the other guests and make new friends.
Take a stroll down to the owners’ fishing lakes for a spot of quiet time, or enjoy breathtaking woodland walks and National Trust footpaths from the doorstep, which once belonged to the Llanerchaeron estate.
The Farmhouse stands proud at the top of the courtyard, while The Stables and Mill Cottage form part of a three-cottage stone barn conversion at the side. Each is superbly presented and equipped, whilst still retaining many charming character features including open beams and stone walls.
You may wish to spend the whole of your holiday here enjoying the private fishing ponds, fresh eggs and homegrown vegetables from the farm, along with the resident chickens and sheep, but from the doorstep you can also walk down to, and along, the River Aeron.
