Waikaka Genetics - Ep 34 - PGG Wrightson Stud Tour
Rural TV NZ in association with New Zealand's leading agriculture company, PGG Wrightson, present the PGG Wrightson Stud Tour 2012.
WAIKAKA GENETICS -- Paterson Family -- Waikaka, Southland
This week on the PGG Wrightson Stud Tour we the Paterson family, Laurie, Sharon and their son Ross and his wife Steph, farming just out of Waikaka in Southland. The Paterson family, along with Sharons family the Kings of the Lilburn Valley, have been breeding Herefords for decades, and now with their son marrying into the Lake Station Herefords, this family is a powerful force when it comes to Hereford genetics in New Zealand!
Not only are the Paterson's concentrating on their years of Hereford breeding and Laurie's strong involvement in the evolution of the Hereford Prime programme, they also run four sheep studs -- Romney, Romdale, Romex (RomTex) and Texel. Sharon's passion for Texel's is very special and profound in the growing market for Texel in the New Zealand lamb industry.
Tony Glynn, of Rural TV (NZ) learns of the level of technology the Waikaka Genetics team have implemented into their breeding programme, and value the recording it provides down the chain. Tony also confesses his love for Sharon's views on family farm succession with a brillant philosophy for all to adopt (have to watch right to the end of the episode!) This episode is sure to leave you inspired with the hard work that is happening in the Waikaka Genetics yards to evolve the adoption of technology.

Road Tripping New Zealand, Episode 1: Christchurch, Kaikoura, Lake Tekapo, and Wanaka.
Episode 1 of a two-week road trip my wife and I took on the South Island of New Zealand. In this episode we start in beautiful Christchurch and drive up the coast to Kaikoura for some whale watching. Then we ahead west across the island, stopping at crystal blue Lake Tekapo, to Wanaka to hike the Rocky Mountain Track. This episode has it all: whales, dolphins, flowers, hiking, mountains, lakes and rainbows! You'll get a nice taste of how beautiful hiking in New Zealand is!

A family holiday dream adventure. Once again we’re heading to the southern alps but this time we’re going off-road to the home of some of New Zealand greatest high country sheep stations. Things to See in NAPIER, New Zealand Sheep Farm l CRUISE VLOG l Ep. 19
It's a new day which means we are in Napier, New Zealand! At this point, you all know how much I love sheep so I just had to visit another sheep farm! LOL!
Though, the downtown area of Napier looks like it has enough to keep you busy if you are not planning on doing an excursion.
I booked my tour through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer this tour. It is called: HAWKES BAY COUNTRYSIDE and here is the tour description from NCL's website:
“Set on a large sheet station that has remained in the same family for generations, you’ll drive to Wool World, a well-established New Zealand brand for premium wool duvets and alpaca fur rugs. During your visit here you’ll find a farm display that includes demonstrations of shearing and sheep dog trails, as well as woolshed museum with displays of family history and mementos. Feel free to also take advantage of browsing the shop and finding high quality knitwear and some authentic New Zealand wool items available for purchase. You’ll be treated to Devonshire tea at one of the charming local cafés.
Travel to the summit of Te Mata Peak where you’ll find unmatched panoramic views over the Tuki Tuki River Valley and onwards to the cities of Napier and Hastings. During summer and autumn months the area is up to three degrees Celsius warmer during the day; making this area of Hawke’s Bay it’s most unique.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

Rotorua Travel
Rotorua Travel - Tourism is a major industry in Rotorua, so tourist services are well developed. The Tourist Information Centre on the main road, Fenton Street, is a good starting point.
Rotorua is built over a geothermal hot spot. There are numerous natural vents, hot pools and other geothermal features in and around the city. Many of these are in parks and reserves. Natural eruptions of steam, hot water and mud occasionally occur in new locations. Many places have their own private geothermal bores for heating and water for bathing although private use of naturally occurring geothermal water and steam is controlled.
Rotorua sits on the shores of Lake Rotorua, and there are several other lakes nearby. So along with the geothermal wonders, many water-based activities such as fishing, boating and white water rafting are available.
Geologically, Rotorua is in the middle of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, named after Lake Taupo, the largest volcano in the area. This geologically active zone produces the heat that is needed to drive all the geothermal activity. Along with many volcanic hills and mountains, the zone contains several major volcanic calderas (large subsidence craters). These are important for tourism because they host the region's largest lakes (including Lake Taupo and Lake Rotorua), and because geothermal activity tends to occur around their edges. Rotorua caldera, some 22 km (14 mi) across, contains the city and Mount Ngongotaha as well as the lake. It was created in a huge eruption around a quarter of a million years ago.
Enjoy Your Rotorua Travel!
Kaikōura Earthquake Recovery
In November 2018, the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) team, KiwiRail and NZ Transport Agency won the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) People’s Choice Award.
It was great to see the incredible collective efforts in repairing the transport corridor after the Kaikōura Earthquake recognised on a global scale!
Geotechnics is proud to have played a part in such a significant project.

The Blue Mountains is a rugged region west of Sydney in Australia’s New South Wales. Known for dramatic scenery, it encompasses steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls and villages dotted with guesthouses, galleries and gardens. Katoomba, a major town in the area, borders Blue Mountains National Park and its bushwalking trails. Echo Point affords views of the storied Three Sisters sandstone rock formation.
