The Grange Hotel was built in 1866 in grand Italianate style by the Furness Railway company, who transformed the medieval village of Grange into a select resort for Victorian gentry. The combination of balmy, warm weather, fine houses and delightful gardens made Grange-over-Sands one of the most fashionable resorts of the day. The Grange Hotel has been extensively and tastefully refurbished, complete with marble floors and chandeliers in keeping with its original grand style. Fine terraced gardens overlook the town. Many of the rooms have front-facing Bay views, whilst others look out onto our private woodland. The town is famed for its peace and unspoiled charm as well as its beautiful, mile long promenade and interesting little shops. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel.

Grange-over-Sands is a town and civil parish on Morecambe Bay – with a wide tidal range, hence the sands name – roughly midway between Barrow-in-Furness and Kendal in Cumbria, England. Grange-over-Sands was created as an urban district in 1894 and lies historically within Lancashire. In 1974 Cumbria was created under Local Government re-organisation which absorbed the area referred to as Lancashire North of the Sands or North Lonsdale. Grange is now in South Lakeland District. The town remains part of the County Palatine of Lancashire and is part of the Duchy of Lancaster.
Grange-over-Sands developed in the Victorian era from a small fishing village, and the arrival of the railway made it a popular seaside resort on the north side of Morecambe Bay, across the sands from Morecambe. The 'over-Sands' suffix was added in the late 19th or early 20th century by the local vicar, who was fed up with his post going to Grange in Borrowdale near Keswick.
The clean, sea air was believed to be of benefit to tuberculosis sufferers, and in 1891 one of the first sanatoriums in the country was established at Meathop. Not only was the air believed to have a therapeutic effect but also the local spring water. There is one primary school, Grange-over-Sands Church of England Primary School. There is no secondary school, so most pupils attend the school in Cartmel or Milnthorpe . There is also a small nursery school.
Adjacent to Grange are Lindale, to the north-east, Cartmel to the north-west, with its priory to which the village was once the 'grange' or farm, and Allithwaite to the west. The country house Holker Hall, which was built on land which once belonged to the priory, is nearby. Until its move to Backbarrow in 2010, the stables at Holker Hall housed the Lakeland Motor Museum.
Grange-over-Sands railway station, which serves the town, was opened by the Ulverston and Lancaster Railway on 1 September 1857 and is now served by the Furness Line, giving connections to Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness to the west, and Lancaster, Preston and Manchester (and its airport) to the east.
The main road access is the A590, which runs between the M6 and Barrow-in-Furness. Before the building of the railway, the main way of reaching Grange was the road across the Sands of Morecambe Bay from Hest Bank.

Blackpool Promenade (1924) | BFI Britain on Film
Excerpt
This captivating early film - by an unknown filmmaker - offers a glimpse of glorious Blackpool and the many delights it offers holidaymakers.
From Jan Hurst's orchestra at the Grand Pavilion and a stroll along the promenade to donkey rides on the beach and some rather uncanny talking dolls to entertain the children, this charming short travelogue has it all.
The real treat, though, are the close-ups of gleeful beachgoers enjoying themselves, which could almost - changing fashions not withstanding - have been taken yesterday.

Welcome to my channel
This channel is mainly dedicated to videos of my hometown, Blackpool, Lancashire, England.
This series is following the refurbishment of the Sands Venue.
Part 19
Blackpool is a beautiful seaside town on the North West coast of England.
We have many cool attractions here including our world famous Blackpool Tower, the Pleasure Beach, three piers and a lovely sandy beach..
Blackpool is a relatively poor town that gets (unfairly in my opinion), a lot of bad press..
The aim of my channel is to show Blackpool in a better light..
No town or city is perfect so it's best to appreciate the good parts wherever you live :)
Also videos of areas surrounding Blackpool. going north we have Bispham, Cleveleys, maybe as far as Fleetwood and Knott End. In the other direction, going south we will be visiting St Annes and Lytham.

Arnside,Cumbria
On the best day of the year so far I find myself at Arnside,Cumbria. It faces the estuary of the River Kent on the north-eastern corner of Morecambe Bay. With my trusty Phantom4 by my side it's time for a late afternoon flight. I'm using a ND4 filter. Fantastic fish and chips by the way. I purchase my music off Amazon. Thanks for watching

Hampsfell in Grange-over-Sands // Hiking Vlog #17
Filmed on Saturday 17th August 2019
With some of the most spectacular 360 degree views in the area and a 350 million year old limestone pavement it's not really very surprising why I love this place so much!
Hampsfell in Grange-over-Sands is my regular stomping ground, being just a 5 minute walk from my front door. It was nice not having to drive and being able to wear a light bag for a change. Obviously young Finn joined me on this one and she had a wonderful time on this very windy day - despite almost being killed by a sheep!
We walked up to the Hampsfell Hospice which is a nice little stone shelter built by the vicar at Cartmel Priory in 1846. As I mentioned in the video this is where I bumped into Will Holligan ( during last year's 'Beast from the East' storm.
Full disclosure: due to the very high winds on this day I wasn't able to fly the drone but fortunately I had some archive footage from previous walks - phew!

Trains including Class 37s and DMUs at Grange-over-Sands Cumbria
Between 2010 and 2016 John Briggs, a regular visitor to Grange-over-Sands (Cumbria, UK) filmed passing trains. Trains at Grange (17 mins) forms a cavalcade of clips, giving a good impression of the typical, commonplace and the unusual, that can be seen on this part of the Cumbrian Coast Railway during this era. The film is presented without commentary or music and train sound is as much a part of the record as the moving images. A young train-spotter with a camera on a selfie-stick starts the sequence, and continues a family tradition well-established by his elders!
Grange is a lovely place for a visit, it's beside a tidal estuary on the edge of the iconic English Lake District, and the town has a long promenade that's great for viewing both sea and trains.
The advent of websites giving real-time train information enabled many of the trains to be captured in a way that would have been somewhat ‘hit and miss’ in the past. This film is a must for armchair train-spotters of any age, especially those who like to see the famously noisy Class 37 locos being 'thrashed' as they accelerate away from the station, their being regularly used in more recent years on this line. Brief glimpses of adjacent stations at Kents Bank and Arnside are also seen.
