The RAF Manston History Museum
On the 6th November 2010 Sarah Smith and I flew to Manston and back from Southend Airport in a PA28. When we got there we had a trek over to The RAF Manston History Museum. It's well worth a look, lots of interesting exhibits to see. So if you are into your history, go and check this place out.

Manston
This was shot in the late 60's when aircraft that were going to be used in the Battle of Britain film arrived at Manston. My Uncle got access through a friend who worked in the Fire service there. He filmed many of the planes, both British and German, and decided to do a tongue in cheek film putting the frames together with other scenes to make a film whereby a British pilot landed on German soil, and they try to find him, but he escapes in a German aircraft. My uncle Dennis Allistone, worked at Manston when the Americans had a base there as well, and he played the German officer in the film. Quality is not good, but it is a piece of history nonetheless

Attack on RAF Manston
I've neglected 'IL-2 Cliffs of Dover' (WWII flight sim) for a VERY long time - primarily because it was launched as a pretty buggy/semi-complete product back in March 2011.
I virtually lost interest in it straight away.
Since then, the developers have produced a number of patches which have now made the sim playable - but have downgraded it a bit to get there.
I've only recently got back into flying it - and I now actually think that it's great!
This is a VERY BASIC movie I made of one of my recent missions - taking off from RAF Manston (SE England) to attack German Heinkel He-111 bombers that have dropped their bombs and are returning to their base in France.
Whilst giving chase to the bombers, I get bounced by a German Messerschmitt Bf-110 fighter-bomber - fortunately his gunnery is about as bad as mine (currently!) is, but I do get away from him and score a few hits on either him/another Bf-110 (40% damage to that aircraft was the feedback that the sim gave me at the end of the mission).
I then make a reasonably good landing back at RAF Manston, with both my wingmen escorting me down and then flying off to return to land.

Manston Past & Present
The project was designed to boost attainment in Literacy and Maths of a targeted group of Year 6 children.
They worked with a professional journalist to explore all aspects of creating news media and took part in a trip to Manston airport and museum where they had the opportunity to develop interviewing skills when they met a local retired RAF pilot who delighted them with stories of his experiences during the Second World War.
The children collated all the information they gained into articles for the newspaper and footage for their film, which they produced with the support of a professional film maker.
