Places to see in ( Edenbridge - UK )
Edenbridge is a town and civil parish in the Sevenoaks district of Kent, England. The town's name derives from Old English language Eadhelmsbrigge. It is located on the Kent/Surrey border on the upper floodplain of the River Medway and gives its name to the latter's tributary, the River Eden. Edenbridge has a population of around 9,000.
Owing to its position on the River Eden floodplain, the centre of the town is prone to severe flooding. The worst flood occurred in 1958, before any flood defences were built, and led to enormous damage to Edenbridge High Street. Ten years later in 1968, despite the Eden having been dredged to prevent the same occurrence, the town was once again flooded after heavy storms. Although there were no fatalities, a helicopter was needed to save a man from his flooded home. Local legend has it that he hadn't noticed the flood waters rising, having been too engrossed in The Forsyte Saga on television. More adequate flood defences have been built since then, with the local community now well prepared to deal with possible flooding.
Edenbridge has had four mills over the centuries, Haxted Mill and Honour's Mill on the River Eden, Christmas Mill on a tributary of the Eden, and a windmill to the south of the town. All four mill buildings survive, but now converted to other uses.
There are two railway stations serving Edenbridge. The earliest, on the South Eastern Railway (SER) route from Redhill to Tonbridge, was opened on 26 May 1842. The station, simply named Edenbridge, is located in Marlpit Hill. To the west of that station the route crosses what was once the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway main line from London to Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne (via Lewes), opened on 2 January 1888. The crossing of the two lines takes place at a mid-break in the Edenbridge Tunnel on the SER line. Here lies the second station, named Edenbridge Town. The line serving it is now truncated at Uckfield. There is no connection here between the two routes: Edenbridge is not a junction; one existed four miles (6 km) to the west of Edenbridge Town at Crowhurst, but that junction no longer exists. All services at both stations are operated by Southern, which manages both stations. All services at Edenbridge Town station run to and from London Bridge, whereas services at Edenbridge station run to and from London Victoria.
Edenbridge is twinned with Mont-Saint-Aignan in France. The bypass that was built in the early 2000s to relieve traffic pressure on the old, narrow High Street is named Mont St Aignan Way. There are two banks in the town, a post office next to the church and a number of major retail chains. Despite being a relatively small town, Edenbridge boasts its own hospital - The Edenbridge War Memorial Hospital. Initially a cottage hospital built to care for soldiers returning from The First World War, a purpose built building was established to the south of the town in 1931. With an Out Patients Department, Physiotherapy facilities and a Minor Injuries Unit the hospital is a major part of the fabric of the town. In recent years the hospital has been faced with closure many times, on each occasion it has been saved by local campaigners and townspeople, who see the hospital as an essential part of the community.
( Edenbridge - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Edenbridge . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Edenbridge - UK

WORLD WAR II JAPANESE ARMY & NAVY FILM FORTRESS JAPAN 77524
Created in 1944 and presented by Hollywood motion picture studio United Artists, and released by the United States Navy, “The World In Action — Fortress Japan” opens with a flashback to Tokyo on December 7, 1941, and the narrator repeating a statement from Japan’s emperor, the Son of Heaven”: “We declare war on the United States and upon the Commonwealth and Empire of Great Britain. We rely upon the diligence of our subjects to ensure that in the coming struggle, our illustrious intentions shall not miscarry.”
“Still vivid … are those early days of the war in the Pacific,” the narrator continues, as at mark 01:30, a fleet of Japanese warships are shown at sea. The men were faced with desperate odds, yet were never willing to give up the fight. Footage of battles at sea light up the screen at mark 01:45, as we’re told, “for every ship they sank, it seemed Japan could set 100 more upon the sea.”
With one-fifth of the world’s population part of the Japanese Empire, we are informed at mark 02:25, Japan seems to have an endless supply of natural resources to support their war effort. To drive home the point, the film flashes upon Japanese soldiers as they oversea the forced labor of civilians, given only the “cold myth of future co-prosperity” in repayment.
“But today, the Japanese are driving their slave labor to the limit of endurance. Every mine, mill, and man they say must give the upmost in the shortest time,” we are told at mark 03:30, as the film flashes scenes of back-breaking labor from enemy film footage. (The footage was made available through the Office of the Alien Property Custodian). “For time they know is swiftly running out across the Empire of the Rising Sun.”
Cue the actions of Allied Forces. In 1944, Allied forces had slowly gained naval and air supremacy in the Pacific, and moved from island to island, conquering such targets as Gilbert Islands and then the Marshall Islands in the Battle of Kwajalein in late January and early February 1944, and often sustaining significant casualties to the Japanese. Late in 1944, American forces liberated the Philippines and began massive air attacks on Japan. Volleys of gunfire begin at mark 04:45 as we see another landing force take to the coral shores.
“They seldom see the Jap, but have to burn and blast him out of every blockhouse.”
The burned and battered bodies of Japanese soldiers fill the screen beginning at mark 05:40.
Meanwhile, in the Aleutian Islands, frozen bomber bases, only 700 miles from Japan, are shown as snow falls and cold wins blow at mark 06:30. It’s only when the weather clears are bomber pilots given their orders for Japanese targets.
And then there is the Burma Campaign, which raged from January to November 1944 and involved the United States and allies Great Britain and China, to ready themselves for a final invasion of Japan, we are reminded at mark 08:00. “There is no continuous front line. Only a wall of palms and strangler vines. And everywhere — the Jap!”
At mark 09:30, the viewer is cautioned that Japan will not forfeit the fight, and is very likely preparing a last ditch defensive stand. “The Japanese, they say, will retire behind an inner fortress, taking in those territories which can provide materials and munitions over short lines of supply.” A map showing Japan, North China, Korea, Formosa, and the industrial stronghold Manchuria flashes on screen.
“We aware that the loss of these territories in Asia might prove fatal to her cause, Japan is striving to forestall Allied assaults on them by launching new drives southward into China,” the narrator dramatically states near mark 11:00 as battle scenes continue to play out. “Within the fortress walls, they say men move as though along a course of fate they have no power to change.”
The viewer is then shown footage from foundries, shipyards, munitions factories, and laboratories, as worker put in 16 hour days “to ease the Emperor’s mind,” all for 10 ounces of rice and a scrap of dried fish twice a week.
And as Japanese sailors and soldiers board trains to shipped to combat zones starting at mark 14:45, the film’s narrator grimly remarks, “And so, a nation which has ever held life cheap prepares to practice once again its ancient arts of death. ‘If our bodies are broken,’ they say, ‘we shall fight on with the spirit of our fore bearers until the Emperor calls cease.’ And behind the taught smiles of farewell, they hide their gritted teeth.”

Alison Moyet - The Man That Got Away
The night is bitter,
The stars have lost their glitter;
The winds grow colder
And suddenly you're older -
And all because of the man that got away.
No more his eager call,
The writing's on the wall;
The dreams you dreamed have all
Gone astray.
The man that won you
Has gone off and undone you.
That great beginning
Has seen the final inning.
Don't know what happened. It's all a crazy game!
No more that all-time thrill,
For you've been through the mill -
And never a new love will
Be the same.
Good riddance, good-bye!
Ev'ry trick of his you're on to.
But, fools will be fools -
And where's he gone to?
The road gets rougher,
It's lonelier and tougher.
With hope you burn up -
Tomorrow he may turn up.
There's just no letup the live-long night and day!
Ever since this world began
There is nothing sadder than
A one-man woman looking for
The man that got away....
The man that got away.

The topics of class, fidelity and loyalty are dealt with in Hardy's exquisite style and set in the beautiful woodlands of Hintock (T.Hynes)

Who is stronger, the blazing Sun or the proud Wind?
The Wind and the Sun
A Santali folktale
One afternoon,
the Wind and the Sun
were having an argument
about who was stronger.
I've uprooted huge trees
and drowned millions of ships.
You can't do
either of those things,
said the Wind proudly.
The Sun smiled and shrugged.
That doesn't mean
you're more powerful, he said.
I can cover you with clouds
so that no one can see you!
You can't do that to me,
said the Wind.
But the Sun just smiled warmly.
I still think
I'm stronger than you,
he said calmly.
The Wind began to grumble.
He didn't like the idea
of the Sun being stronger than him.
Why don't we have a test?
the Wind finally suggested.
He whipped around,
looking for something
to show off his strength.
Shall we see who can knock down
the most number of houses?
he asked.
Let's keep it simple.
See that man over there?
asked the Sun.
The Wind looked down
and saw a man
walking down a road.
He was whistling happily to himself
and had a shawl
thrown across his shoulders.
Shall we see who can force him
off the road first? the Wind asked.
No, that will only hurt him,”
the Sun replied.
“Let's just see
who can take his shawl off.”
The Wind shrugged
and whipped around the sky.
He huffed and puffed
and made the leaves
in the trees shiver.
The man frowned at the sky
and wrapped his shawl
tightly around himself.
Thunderclouds appeared in the sky.
Animals began running for shelter
and the Wind began to roar.
The man wrapped his shawl
even tighter.
Soon the thunderclouds drifted away.
The Wind had blown himself out.
I give up. I can't do it,
panted the Wind.
He curled up on top of a cloud
to catch his breath.
Now it's my turn, said the Sun.
He yawned lazily
and stretched his rays.
He seemed to grow brighter
and bigger in the sky.
Soon it was as hot
as a summer day.
The man looked up at the sky
and wiped the sweat off his forehead.
What strange weather
we're having today!
he said to himself.
Then he took his shawl off
and tucked it under his arm.
Looks like you win,
the Wind agreed cheerfully.
He clapped his hands
and made the leaves on the trees rustle.
You don't have to knock a man down
to take his shawl off,
said the Sun with a teasing smile.
They laughed together
and watched the man
walking down the road,
again whistling happily to himself.

1983-0724 Guru Puja Talk: Awakening The Principle Of Guru, Lodge Hill Sussex UK DP CC
Archive video: H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi at Guru Puja 1983 in Lodge Hill Centre, Pulborough (England).
more at:
Today, you all have gathered here to do the Guru Puja.
Your Guru is a mother first, and then a guru. And that has given Me a greater help.
We have had before also many Guru Pujas, mostly in England, and you should wonder why Mother always somehow is doing Guru Puja in London.
The time falls in such a way that it is in Guru Puja. I am here during that time; I have to be in London. So many years you have been doing Guru Puja in England. All things happen, if according to Ritambhara Praghya, then there must be some reason why Mother is here in England for a Guru Puja.
It is stated in the Puranas that the Adi Guru Dattatreya worshipped Mother along the banks of the river Tamasa. Tamasa is the same as your Thames is, and He Himself came and worshipped here. And the Druids, those who had the manifestation of the Stonehenge and all that, are originated from that time, in this great country of Shiva, or the Spirit.
So the Spirit resides here, as in the heart of human beings, and the Sahasrara is in the Himalayas, where Sadashiva exists, at the Kailasha. This is the great secret of we having so many Guru Pujas here. To culminate it today and do this special type of Guru Puja in the year of the Sixtieth Birthday of your Mother, is, has a special, very, very special significance because is the Guru Sashti, is the sixty years of your Guru has been celebrated today, and that’s how it’s a very big occasion, that you all have gathered under the influence of again Ritambhara Praghya.
