Evesham Town Hall Clock
A look at Evesham Town Hall Clock on Saturday 7th February 2015.
The Town Hall, known as the new Guild Hall 150 years ago, is amongst the oldest buildings in Evesham, older buildings being the churches of All Saints and St. Lawrence, the Bell Tower, the Almonry, Abbot Reginald’s Gateway and the former Evesham Grammar School at Merstow Green, as well as the Round House next to the Town Hall.
The building was remodelled in 1885, and the Clock Tower erected in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. The Clock Tower was refurbished early in 1998.

Coughton Court English Tudor Country House Warwickshire.
Coughton Court is an English Tudor country house, situated on the main road between Studley and Alcester in Warwickshire. It is a Grade I listed building.
The house has a long crenelated façade directly facing the main road, at the centre of which is the Tudor Gatehouse, dating from 1530; this has hexagonal turrets and oriel windows in the English Renaissance style. The gatehouse is the oldest part of the house and is flanked by later wings, in the Strawberry Hill Gothic style, popularised by Horace Walpole.
The Coughton estate has been owned by the Throckmorton family since 1409. The estate was acquired through marriage to the De Spinney family. Coughton was rebuilt by Sir George Throckmorton, the first son of Sir Robert Throckmorton of Coughton Court by Catherine Marrow, daughter of William Marrow of London. The great gatehouse at Coughton was dedicated to King Henry VIII by Throckmorton, a favorite of the King. Throckmorton would become notorious due to his almost fatal involvement in the divorce between King Henry and his first wife Catherine of Aragon. Throckmorton favoured the queen and was against the Reformation. Throckmorton spent most of his life rebuilding Coughton. In 1549, when he was planning the windows in the great hall, he asked his son Nicholas to obtain from the heralds the correct tricking (colour abbreviations) of the arms of his ancestors' wives and his own cousin and niece by marriage Queen Catherine Parr. The costly recusancy (refusal to attend Anglican Church services) of Robert Throckmorton and his heirs restricted later rebuilding, so that much of the house still stands largely as he left it.
After Throckmorton's death in 1552, Coughton passed to his eldest son, Robert. Robert Throckmorton and his family were practicing Catholics therefore the house at one time contained a priest hole, a hiding place for priests during the period when Catholics were persecuted by law in England, from the beginning of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The Hall also holds a place in English history for its roles in both the Throckmorton Plot of 1583 to murder Queen Elizabeth I of England, and the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, although the Throckmorton family were themselves only indirectly implicated in the latter, when some of the Gunpowder conspirators rode directly there after its discovery.
The house has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1946. The family, however, hold a 300-year lease and previously managed the property on behalf of the Trust. In 2007, however, the house reverted to management by the National Trust. The management of the property is renewed every 10 years. The family tenant until recently was Clare McLaren-Throckmorton, known professionally as Clare Tritton QC, until she died on 31 October 2017.
The house, which is open to the public all year round, is set in extensive grounds including a walled formal garden, a river and a lake.
The house was used as a filming location for the BBC One series Father Brown in the episode The Mask of the Demon.

Evesham Part 2
In the beginning there was a forest: the area Evesham is in now was once part of the great forest of Feckenham and apart from a few dwellings, isolated churches and the river Avon, there was very little.
In the 8th Century, this area was owned by Ecgwin, bishop of the Hwicce (people of Worcester) and he had a swineherd, Eof, who watched his pigs here. As legend has it, Eof saw a vision of the Virgin Mary whilst searching for some lost pigs near a place known locally as 'Homme'. He took word of this miraculous appearance to Ecgwin who visited the same spot and saw the same vision, then interpreting it to mean he had to raise an abbey in her name on this spot.
It is thanks to this vision that we have a thriving town today, for around the abbey grew other dwellings. Under Edward the Confessor, Evesham was granted the status of Market Town: the fertile soil around the river Avon providing excellent conditions for growing crops.
On 4th August 1265, one of the most bloody battles in England's history took place in Evesham between the forces of Prince Edward (later Edward I) and Simon de Montfort (earl of Leicester), following months of bitter wrangling over the control of the king, the enforcement of the Magna Carta and the barons rights under law. Simon's forces were outnumbered and thoroughly routed with Simon himself taking the brunt of a most vicious attack and dying on the field. Eye witness accounts called it the murder at Evesham, for battle it was none.
My Favorite Place
I’d been researching my family tree. The trail led to Chilham in Kent. UK. My Grandfather, his Wife and two children, moved from Brenchly to Chilham, where he opened a Bakery in the Village in the late 1920s. I was familiar with Chilham and knew it to be very picturesque. A nice place to visit.
The 25th September was a beautiful day so I took the opportunity to go down to Chilham to find the Bakery. I had the Camcorder set up in the windscreen and the Radio tuned to ‘Radio Kent.’ It was quite a coincidence that they were doing a thing about “Your Favorite Place.” Phone in. So the soundtrack to the Video was recorded from ‘Radio Kent’ as I was driving through Chilham.

Tales from the Vault - presented by NatWest Evesham
The Round House in Evesham has a fascinating heritage. Originally built as a merchant's house in the 15th century, it's also been home to the local magistrate's court before becoming a bank the 1920s. Our staff have heard odd noises, seen figures in supposedly empty rooms… maybe this is why NatWest is a stop on the famous Evesham ghost walk?
Worcester Hospital to Evesham by Car - 10th March 2016
A random drive (and pointless video, but someone may find it interesting) of a drive from Worcester Royal Hospital, to The De Montfort School in Evesham, UK, driving along a few country roads, and through Evesham Town. Nothing too exciting, and not much sound either to add to the boredom (just my choice of orchestral driving music, and the occasional humming to the music, cough and sniff from me!) The video was filmed at around 8:00am on Thursday 10th March 2016, and you'll notice the flood water from the RIver Avon on the fields the closer we get to Evesham (we had some torrential weather beforehand). The route mostly consists of the A4440, A44, Worcester Road, along Evesham High Street, and finally ending on Four Pools Road. Also, watchout for some numpty driver who decided he didn't want to wait for me to come round the roundabout outside the hopsital!

15 September, 1875. Long Compton was the scene of a bloody and bizarre street murder which sent shock waves through Victorian Britain. Anne Tennant As she went to the local baker's shop to buy a loaf of bread. a man stepped forward, thrust his pitchfork through her throat pinning her to the ground and then carved bloody crucifixes on her face and chest with a bill hook. The perpetrator was arrested. he even claimed that his actions were to protect the community and that there were 16 other witches in Long compton whom he would also like to kill. several of his neighbours agreed with him. an inquest was held in the Red Lion two days after the incident, the jury returned a verdict of 'wilful murder', one of the more extreme incidents involving witchcraft which occurred in Long Compton over a period of several hundred years and which continued well into the 20th century. The tradition stemmed from superstitions surrounding the Rollright Stones, an ancient stone circle situated a mile away just over the border in Oxfordshire. Legend says that St Augustine came to Long Compton in the late 6th century when he preached in the church and raised a man from the dead.
