Khun Wang Royal Project or Khun Wang Royal Agricultural Research Centre is a research station on the slopes of Doi Inthanon has been getting a good deal of attention in the last few years since word got out about it being one of the best places in Chiang Mai to appreciate the beauty of phya sua khrong (wild Himalayan cherry) trees in full bloom in early January.
If speak of ”Sakura” are you still thinking about Japan? But in reality, the beautiful cherry blossoms, Sakura isn’t being seen only in Japan. Several people commented that a ”phaya Sua khrong flower” which crops up at Khun Wang Royal Agricultural research Center, Doi Inthanon National Park, Chiang Mai, Khun Wang is as beautiful as Sakura in Japan. Therefore, it is known as the cherry blossoms, Sakura even in Thailand now.
Wild Himalayan cherry trees, known in Thai as phraya suea khrong, shed leaves during the cool season, leaving only brown branches that make them appear as if they are dying trees. Imagine what it would be like if all those branches had cherry flowers in full bloom, with their pink feathery canopies set against the bright blue sky.
Khun Wang Royal Project was established after His Majesty the King had visited Baan Khun Wang in 1980, and had observed that the land had been growing opium extensively. Therefore, the King assigned the Garden Plant Division, Thailand Department of Agriculture to demonstrate and breed crops on the area for supporting and passing on the technology know-how to highland farmers. This is to encourage them to do the plantation instead of growing opium.
A place to try and grow crops on high. And to promote technology transfer Farmers on high And to substitute for opium Visitors to the breeding of dairy cattle (feed drop) will enjoy agro tourism filled. Enjoy the beauty of winter to fruit to take flowers bloom bright. Whether pear, plum, peach marine Mackinac eye or strawberry, or agricultural plots within walking educational center.
Located inside Doi Inthanon National Park at 1,400m above sea level, the agricultural research centre has two operation units in this area. First is Khun Wang which covers 450 rai. The other is the Mae Chon Luang Highland Agricultural Research Center which covers 1,250 rai of land in Mae Chaem district. The centres are about 7km apart.
At Kunn Wang Royal Project, Visitors can pick them freshly from the tree for tasting. Moreover, in winter, especially in the mid of January to February, the hill will be covered with a blanket of pink Wild Himalayan Cherry flowers (Hill Sakura), giving a splendid picturesque sight to the visitors. Furthermore, those bird watchers shouldn’t miss this place, since Inthanon mountain is home to various species of birds.
Activities in Khun Wang
Visit cherry blossoms bloom in mid-January to early Febuary. The period of Wild Himalayan Cherry Blossom is quite difficult to forecast because it is depend on the weather during that time. Normally, they will be blooming during December – Febuary when the weather is cold down for about one month. It usually bloom for only about two or three weeks a year. Highly recommended to get an update on the seasonal blooms before your trip.
Decorative gardens are one of the highlights of the stations in both Khun Wang and Mae Chon Luang. Visitors can wander around the gardens for close-up pictures of the flowers.
Promotion of vegetables including peas, sweet Brock colonies Broccoli Broccoli, tomatoes, sweet onions, Japanese radish projects.
Travel Information
Chiang Mai Royal Agricultural Research Center is about a two-hour drive from Chiang Mai International Airport. From the airport, take Route 108 and turn right onto Route 1009 at Chom Thong district heading to Doi Inthanon. At KM31, turn right to Route 1284 into the research centre. The road is winding and in good condition, except for 500m where there are many potholes on the road leading to the entrance gate of Mae Chon Luang station.

You gotta spend a night there if you got a chance to visit Chinag Mai. It is worth spending. Everything is provide. Feel like home with a little neighborhood.
Scenic ride to Doi Ang Khang in Chiangmai, Thailand.
Doi Ang Khang, in Chiang Mai province, is an area on the border with Myanmar consisting of a number of peaks and ridges that, although largely deforested, contain a lot of scrubby vegetation and forest patches which provide enough habitat to house a good number of bird species, many of which are found in few other parts of the country.
One of the joys of Doi Ang Kang is that the scenery is quite beautiful and there is a variety of accommodation to choose from, together with some tasty fresh food. This region is a very relaxing place to stay with plenty of opportunities for walking and birding in the surrounding countryside. A number of small hilltribe villages are dotted around the region as are a few Thai military outposts.

SUMMARY
=======
Thailand ( TY-land), officially the Kingdom of Thailand and formerly known as Siam, is a country at the center of the Southeast Asian Indochinese peninsula composed of 76 provinces. At 513,120 km2 (198,120 sq mi) and over 68 million people, Thailand is the world's 50th largest country by total area and the 21st-most-populous country. The capital and largest city is Bangkok, a special administrative area. Thailand is bordered to the north by Myanmar and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, and Indonesia and India on the Andaman Sea to the southwest. Although nominally a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, the most recent coup in 2014 established a de facto military dictatorship.
Tai peoples migrated from southwestern China to mainland Southeast Asia from the 11th century; the oldest known mention of their presence in the region by the exonym Siamese dates to the 12th century. Various Indianised kingdoms such as the Mon, the Khmer Empire and Malay states ruled the region, competing with Thai states such as Ngoenyang, the Sukhothai Kingdom, Lan Na and the Ayutthaya Kingdom, which rivaled each other. European contact began in 1511 with a Portuguese diplomatic mission to Ayutthaya, one of the great powers in the region. Ayutthaya reached its peak during cosmopolitan Narai's reign (1656–88), gradually declining thereafter until being ultimately destroyed in 1767 in a war with Burma. Taksin quickly reunified the fragmented territory and established the short-lived Thonburi Kingdom. He was succeeded in 1782 by Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke, the first monarch of the Chakri dynasty and founder of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, which lasted into the early 20th century.
Through the 18th and 19th centuries, Siam faced pressure from France and the United Kingdom, including forced concessions of territory, but nevertheless it remained the only Southeast Asian country to avoid direct Western rule. Following a bloodless revolution in 1932, Siam became a constitutional monarchy and changed its official name to Thailand. While it joined the Allies in World War I, Thailand was an Axis satellite in World War II. In the late 1950s, a military coup revived the monarchy's historically influential role in politics. Thailand became a major ally of the United States and played a key anti-communist role in the region. Apart from a brief period of parliamentary democracy in the mid 1970s, Thailand has periodically alternated between democracy and military rule. In the 21st century, Thailand endured a political crisis that culminated in two coups and the establishment of its current and 20th constitution by the military junta.
Thailand is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy under a military junta. Thailand is a founding member of Association of Southeast Asian Nations and remains a major ally of the US. Despite its comparatively sporadic changes in leadership, it is considered a regional power in Southeast Asia and a middle power in global affairs. With a high level of human development, the second largest economy in Southeast Asia, and the 20th largest by PPP, Thailand is classified as a newly industrialized economy; manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism are leading sectors of the economy.
