-- About this video --
This late afternoon, we are making our way to Dunedin’s wildlife hot spot, the Otago Peninsula. This time, we’re checking out the Royal Albatross Centre for a New Zealand wildlife experience with royal albatross and little blue penguins in Dunedin.
First, we take the Royal Albatross Centre tour where we get exclusive access to the royal albatross viewing hides where we can see royal albatross in their natural environment without disturbing them. We can’t believe how close we are getting to the albatross. It’s a unique wildlife experience in New Zealand!
We also tour the military battery of Taiaroa Head, before going to the Royal Albatross Cafe and waiting for our second tour at the Royal Albatross Centre, seeing little blue penguins on the Otago Peninsula.
When night falls, this is the best time to see the little blue penguins return in rafts back to their nests on Pilot Beach just below the Royal Albatross Centre. It’s one of the best places to watch little blue penguins in New Zealand.
So what do you think of the Royal Albatross Centre tours? Would you add them to your Dunedin travel itinerary? LUK in the comments.

Very rough video of trip onboard the Monarch to cruise Otago Harbor and see the Royal Albatross. This was taken from a rocking boat, but I think there are a few shots worthy of viewing, especially if you haven't seen an albatross before.

Directed towards the Otago Peninsula. Wihaeseoda find the royal albatross center is located at the end of the peninsula. Here is the original defense was that military ties ahroah fortress. But now it established itself as New Zealand's South Island the best ecological habitats for wild birds . The wind above the sea bird's wing while I come to the eyes. We have the unusual albatross . The tilt stand that the length of the wings can fly at up to 120km per hour reaches 3m. It has been managed for 70 years as a habitat for the conservation of albatross . Albatross chicks could see the white fluffy baby birds in the bush to incubate in the second period . When the baby birds is high in September it leaves the nest here .

Little Blue Penguins, Royal Albatross Centre, Dunedin, New Zealand
Little Blue Penguins coming back to their nests at night after a day at sea. The sounds you hear are being made by the penguins and their families in the nests. The penguins return to their nests after dark, so the video is dark.
Video taken at the Royal Albatross Centre, Dunedin, New Zealand. The Centre staff maintain a sanctuary for the penguins, fencing out people and predators, but the penguins live as they do in the wild. When the chicks are old enough, the parent penguins take turns going to sea for the day to find fish.
When tours began in 1997, the Centre had only 14 breeding pairs of penguins; in the 2015 count, there were 207 pairs! Well done everyone, helping this species to grow!

Little Blue Penguins coming ashore at the Royal Albatross Centre on the Otago Peninsula of New Zealand. Taken with my Galaxy S4, so not the highest video quality especially as it is after dark, but at least it gives an idea of what it was like. The chirping sound is not the penguins but all the seagulls around.

Amazing Royal Albatross flying in Dunedin- Wildlife Capital of New Zealand
DUNEDIN is lucky enough to host the world’s only mainland Royal Albatross Breeding Colony. On a breezy day in February we witnessed beautiful flying as these magnificent birds with their three metre wing spans showed off their flying skills. The Royal Albatross Colony is a short drive from Dunedin city and a must do attraction.
