The 56th video of my train spotting adventures.

This video takes me down the GWML from Didcot to London Paddington, then one Underground stop along the main throat of lines into Paddington to Royal Oak, served by LU Circle + Hammersmith & City Lines.
-----
Filmed on the:

Dee Park, Tilehurst receives a Royal Visit
HRH The Duke of Kent KG was the guest of honour at Dee Park today when he visited the estate to witness the progress of its regeneration and to lead celebrations for the opening of Oak Tree House, a superb new extra care housing scheme for elderly residents.
The visit was particularly appropriate because The Duchess of Kent originally opened the Dee Park estate in 1969. More than 40 years later it is undergoing a £150 million eight-year regeneration led by Dee Park Partnership (DPP), a joint venture between Willmott Dixon and Catalyst Housing, in partnership with Reading Borough Council.
The Duke was welcomed to Dee Park by the chair of the Dee Park Board and leader of Reading Borough Council, Jo Lovelock; The Lord Lieutenant, Mary Bayliss and Mayor of Reading, Councillor Deborah Edwards. Also present were the chief executives of the joint venture partners and representatives of Dee Park's Community Regeneration Action Group (CRAG).

Deltic diesel 55022 stops @ Reading 20/8/11. Royal Scots Grey
Royal Scots Grey 55022 stops at platform 9 Reading.
Organized by GBrF. The trip was from Peterborough to Weston Super Mare.
The British Rail Class 55 is a class of diesel locomotive built in 1961 and 1962 by English Electric. They were designed for the high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and Edinburgh. They gained the name Deltic from the prototype locomotive, DP1 Deltic, which in turn was named for its Napier Deltic power units. Twenty-two locomotives were built: they dominated express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) particularly London -- Leeds and London -- Edinburgh services until 1978 when InterCity 125 'High Speed Trains' were introduced. 1978--81 saw them gradually relegated to semi-fast or newspaper--parcel--sleeper services along the ECML (destinations including Cleethorpes, Harrogate, Hull, Scarborough and Aberdeen) plus occasional forays 'offline' -- York - Liverpool Lime Street semi-fast and Edinburgh - Carlisle via Newcastle stoppers. Withdrawal came at the end of 1981. Six locomotives were preserved and are still running today.
Paddington to Reading (1990) - Inter-City HST (Valenta Paxman) - December 1990
The entire Paddington to Reading run, in mid December 1990, on the 12::00 Paddington - Swansea (43021 at the rear). Look out for things that have changed since such as: no Heathrow link line - so no overhead lines and no Stockley flyover, between Hayes & Harlington and West Drayton. Westbourne Park mainline station - it closed in 1992 (under the Westway flyover, after Royal Oak underground). Class 47's (including 47 715 Haymarket) and old DMU's on Network SouthEast runs and one Class 47 with Mk2 stock on an Inter-City, near Maidenhead. A40(M) motorway - Westway - it has since been downgraded and lost the '(M)'.

5043 Earl of Mount Edgecumbe, Great Brtitain V conquers Sapperton 29.04.12
5043 Earl of Mount Edgecumbe with 12 coach Great Britain V train storms towards Sapperton Tunnel on 29th April 2012. Temperature 5 deg Celsius (!), driving rain and an easterly gale blowing. Just a couple of well controlled slips before the loco comes into view and another just before the tunnel after she has passed - what a display of enginemanship (Driver R. Poole I believe) and power from a fine locomotive.
