Saffron Walden is a small market town in Essex, England. When I created my first ever connected script font, I decided that a ‘flowery’ name would be best (since that seems to be the most popular choice for connected fonts….). Saffron Walden is a fattish, inky brush font, with a slight tilt to the right. It would be perfect for book covers, magazines, headlines and posters, but could also be used for packaging. Comes with a bunch of ligatures and a heap of diacritics.

CRHnews - BBC One Antiques Roadshow Audley End House 2016
VISITORS FLOCK TO AUDLEY END HOUSE
FOR ANTIQUES ROADSHOW
Cambridge News By Nick Willoughby Posted: May 26, 2016
The sun shone on Audley End near Saffron Walden as eager punters clutching precious family heirlooms and oddities queued to see the Antiques Roadshow experts yesterday.
The BBC One programme was filming at the beautiful Audley End House and Gardens, and many of Britain's leading antiques and fine arts specialists were on hand to offer free advice and valuations to visitors.
More than 2,000 people gathered after having been invited to raid their attics and bring along their household treasures and car-boot-sale bargains for inspection.
Eric Knowles, ceramics and glass expert, told the News: “I believe the town centre of Saffron Walden is like a ghost town at the moment because everybody is here.
“People have been queueing for such a long time, he said, adding that a couple had waited since 10.30am to see him at 4pm.
“The people have been lovely and patient and friendly. We have to remember the British would get a gold medal for queueing at each of the Olympics.
He said that the large number of visitors increased the chances of discovering unusual and exciting items
“I've found a lovely Viennese Art Deco pottery figure that I'm convinced was based on [German-American actress and singer] Marlene Dietrich. She was immaculately dressed and beautifully pottered. It was fabulous pottery.
A spokeswoman for the show said: “It's been a fantastic day with a great turnout. There have been lots of interesting and varied stories and objects.
“We will make hopefully two good hour-long programmes from Audley End that will be shown in the autumn.

Audley End House [History Roadshow]
This time we are in Essex for the History Roadshow, today visiting Audley End House and Gardens.
Audley End House is one of the great historic stately Jacobean homes in England. In the past its fortunes, like those of its owners have been chequered. Audley End is situated among rolling hills in Essex about a mile from the old market town of Saffron Walden.
The first record of a building here dates back to 1136 when Geoffrey de Mandeville, Earl of Essex founded a priory, the monks being of the benedictine order. When Henry VIII started the downfall of monasteries across the country Walden Abbey as it was known succumbed to the same fate.
Thomas Audley who was Henry's lord chancellor was given the estate, upon his death the abbey had been converted into a manor house.
The estate eventually passed to Thomas Howard the 4th Duke of Norfolk, reports suggested Thomas had spent 100,000 pounds but all documents were destroyed. He was accused of accepting bribes from Spain, rumours spread in the county that Audley End was built from spanish gold.
Audley End House has much to offer, as you walk around you'll find other captivating displays, shops where you can buy souvenirs or grab a bite to eat at the Servants hall tea room or for lighter snacks step into the Cart yard cafe. There's also a visitor centre to guide you in the right direction.
Thousands of people visit this place every year, wonderful gardens, inspiring designs, great open spaces and a house that has become a national treasure. A masterpiece with a long and colourful history, Audley End will surprise, enthrall and fascinate you with its ability to bring the world from another era back to life. So for a magnificent, enchanting day out take a trip to Audley End House.
