The Sanctuary, near Avebury
The Sanctuary stone circle near Avebury, England. Sadly the stones and wooden columns are gone, but markers have been placed to show where they would have been 4000 years ago
Avebury stone circle , part one Spirits and stones
The first of a series of videos exploring the Neolithic site of the stone circles of Avebury , it will help to watch my video the sanctuary to Avebury first as it is a insight into its connection with
The Sanctuary, Avebury.
Laying out the paths there so I could photograph the horizon.
The Sanctuary ~ Avebury Henge / Stone Circle (7)
The Sanctuary was originally a wooden circle, and dates to 4,500 years ago.
With Avebury being a stone circle, one instantly asks the right question - for what purpose was one wooden and one stone? Certain scholars suggest wooden sites were a place of the living and stone sites a place of the dead, but I find this as insulting as it could possibly be. If they think things are that simplistic at these sites then they may be better off finding a different career. Also, the wooden posts of The Sanctuary were later replaced with stone, so the idea it was a place of the living can be easily dismissed.
I may discuss these issues in the next series on Avebury as I plan to return to make corrected videos with a focused lens and a microphone.
Please note that this video was cut short because my batter ran out.
Not only are there many megalithic structures in the surrounding area, but it is also home to 90% of the world's crop circles and a large amount of UFOs and other paranormal activity. It is a magical landscape and the area is as weird as it is beautiful.
Unfortunately my camera was slightly out of focus and I also need a proper microphone to cut out wind interference. I do intend to become a little more professional with these videos once I have better equipment in place.

Avebury Stone Circle - A Walk Around Avebury Henge
Solveig Egebjerg & Ian David Chapman take you on a walk around Avebury Stone circle in the United Kingdom.
Avebury is a very special place to visit. We go there every time we visit the Uk since it’s only a 1 hour drive from Ian’s parents. Avebury is located in Wiltshire just west from the town of Marlborough and south of Swindon.
It was built around 2600 BCE, during the Neolithic times. It's made up of a large henge consisting of a bank and a ditch 9 meters deep. with a large outer stone circle and two separate smaller stone circles situated inside the centre.
Many of the stones were removed or destroyed since it was originally constructed but it still contains a very magical and powerful energy.
The video begins in the Avenue, a long processional way linking Avebury with the Sanctuary, lined with stones 15 meters apart.
We then walk through the best preserved quadrant in the south west of the circle before going to the church built at the very centre of Avebury village. We look over the church wall at the southern circle of stones. The southern circle focused on a central point, the great Obelisk, which was the largest stone in the circle at 21 feet (6.4 metres) high.
This was removed sometime after 1725 and its former position is now represented by a concrete post. It was surrounded by 29 smaller stones
Next we go to the northern part of the circle where we find the remains of the Cove. This once consisted of three rectangular shaped sarsen stones, arranged around three sides of a square with the opening to the north.
Today the circle complex is grazed by sheep but once it was used as a ceremonial and ritual centre.
Crossing the road to the east we encounter the high bank surrounding the circle. The trees have extended their roots like rippling waves over the grass. Today people tie ribbons and cloth to the branches to make a wish or send a prayer.
Around the high bank we return to the southern entrance to the circle. The bank is now some 14–18 feet (4.2–5.4 metres) high but was once nearly 55 feet (17 metres) above what was originally a 30-foot (9-metre) deep ditch.
These two giant portal stones guard the entrance to the circle, the largest is called the devils chair. We think the christians have this all backward which is why if you look closely at the video things are played in reverse.
According to Paul Broadhurst (Author) and Hamish Miller (Author) these two stones mark where the Michael and Mary ley lines enter the circle and is one of the most sacred and powerful places in the whole complex.
If you want to know more about the energetic layout of Avebury in relation to the Michael and Mary Leylines check out the book the Sun and the Serpent

Avebury
A documentary about this great prehistoric stone circle and the other nearby sites of Windmill Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, The Sanctuary and the legendary Silbury Hill. The video concentrates on archeological discovery rather than fables, myths and legends.
Silbury Hill ~ Avebury Henge / Stone Circle (6)
Silbury Hill is the largest man-made mound in Europe.
At least 4,200 years old, its purpose is as mysterious as the people who built it.
Silbury Hill was a part of the Avebury landscape, with the stone circle less than a mile farther north, West Kennet Long Barrow around half a mile south, and the quarry and The Sanctuary about 1.5 miles east.
Not only are there many megalithic structures in the surrounding area, but it is also home to 90% of the world's crop circles and a large amount of UFOs and other paranormal activity. It is a magical landscape and the area is as weird as it is beautiful.

OLDER THAN AVEBURY STONE CIRCLE!
England: Stonehenge and Avebury (two very different neolithic sites)
See more details on the blog:
Ilfracombe is wonderful but we've decided to take a little road trip to see a couple of primary tourist sites: Bath and Stonehenge. The first day we visited Stonehenge and Avebury, two very different neolithic sites. While stonehenge has a finished look where the stone age builders created something almost recognizable there is a comprehensive visitor and tourist center and facilities. You also are kept a certain distance from the stones and it costs a pretty penny.
Avebury on the other hand is free to walk around and touch. It is far larger (the stone rings at least) and less defined. It's also cuts through a town and road runs through it. Both are very impressive but we'd recommend doing a little studying before visiting to get the most from your visit. Where did the stones for stonehenge and avebury come from? You'll have to see it to find out!

From West Overton to the Sanctuary, Avebury.
Marq and I are exploring the Avebury landscape in Wiltshire. Today we take a walk to Overton Hill to have a look at The Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary is a prehistoric site on Overton Hill located around 5 miles west of Marlborough in the English county of Wiltshire. Four concentric rings of post holes, and two outer rings of standing stones were first noted in 1648, and were drawn by William Stukeley in 1723, shortly before it was largely destroyed by a local farmer.

Long Meg and Her Daughters Stone Circle
Long Meg and Her Daughters Stone Circle
One of the finest stone circles in the north of England, the circle has a diameter of about 350 feet, the second biggest in the country. Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones, about 12 feet high, with three mysterious symbols, its four corners facing the points of the compass and standing some 60 feet outside the circle.
Local legend claims that Long Meg was a witch who with her daughters, was turned to stone for profaning the Sabbath, as they danced wildly on the moor. The circle is supposedly endowed with magic, so that it is impossible to count the same number of stones twice, but if you do then the magic is broken.
This was the start of a great walk i highly recommend for all that can get out and do it. I'll attach the route in the next upload as this video is to be continued...
