A groundbreaking new exhibit in the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s Orientation Theater showcases the experiences of seven pioneer female automobile enthusiasts, with New York State as the starting point for their adventures. At times, each of the featured women played a pivotal role in societal change, with their paths sometimes crossing along the way. Each woman has her own unique story to tell with a passion for motoring at the center.
Coinciding with the national centennial celebrations for Women’s Suffrage, The Wheels: Women and Independence Exhibit explores the role of the automobile in the suffrage movement. August 18, 2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the official certification of the ratification of the 19th Amendment by the United States Secretary of State.

You Paid For It: Pricey Primaries
ALBANY -- The Senate Elections Committee backed a bill Monday evening to reimburse counties the cost of a second primary this year after political bickering prevented the state from settling on a single primary day. A second primary is estimated to cost up to $50 million.
Historically, the New York Primary Day was in September, but a federal court moved the congressional primary to June to accommodate military voting. The order did not apply to primaries for state senate and assembly.
Most Republicans are backing a plan to have a single primary day in August because it avoids them having to campaign while still in session. Sen. Kathy Marchione (R) - Halfmoon, said she thinks the state could still comply with the order by having the August primary.
I'm here to do the people's business and it's very hard to be out campaigning. You just can't. You have to be here, said Marchione.
Most Democrats are backing a plan to have a primary day in June because it would best comply with the federal order.
Vermont tried to move it to August and it wasn't enough time to get the votes out and back from the military so I don't think August is sufficient and the federal judge who has forced us to move the date to June moved it to June because of that, said Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk, (D) Duanesburg.
Democrats and Republicans opted to keep two primary dates. Tkaczyk then sponsored a bill to reimburse municipalities the cost of a second election, estimated at up to $50 million statewide.
If my bill passes the state will reimburse the county the costs. It's still coming from the taxpayers so we still need to get the two dates put on one, that's really where we reduce the costs and inefficiencies, said Tkaczyk. Until we do that, I don't think it's fair to expect the counties to pay for this mandate that we clearly have the ability to fix.

Museum Thefts May Be Linked
Police believe at least three burglaries that netted hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of horse racing trophies and memorabilia from museums were committed by the same thief, says Saratoga Springs Assistant Police Chief John Catone.Surveillance video from the United States Golf Association museum in New Jersey shows someone entering two rooms and working quickly to remove some of the items. Catone said Thursday similar video from the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs is still in the possession of state police analysts. The director of the Hall of Fame, Chris Dragone, told CBS 6 he holds out hope that the items taken from the hall, including the 1903 Belmont Stakes trophy, still exist. We're still hopeful we're going to see these trophies again, Dragone said. He said that almost two months after the September 12 burglary, people at the museum are still a little bit in shock. The director of the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, Janet Terhune, said she believes about $360,000 worth of trophies stolen in December must have been melted down by now. She told CBS6 News that in January she let Dragone know that investigators in New Jersey thought it possible that the USGA case and hers were connected. The USGA burglary happened in the spring of 2012, shortly after trophies were also stolen from the nearby Somerset Hills Country Club.Catone says some of the burglaries featured similar break-ins, similar tools and were completed in under three minutes, leading investigators to believe the thief had spent time in each place becoming familiar with the layout and the locations of the valuables.Catone told CBS6 News a helpful dealer in Connecticut contacted police about a week after the Saratoga Springs burglary, reporting someone had contacted him about selling trophies. Arrangements were made but the person never showed up, Catone said. Still, he says that dealer suggested police alert certain high-end dealers in New York City where a thief might try to unload such items.
