South Bank London Dry Gin Spirit Review in 4K UHD - from Windsor, England
SOUTHBANK LONDON DRY GIN
Distillery
Burlington Drinks (part of Hayman Distillers Ltd.), Witham, Essex (the Gin is made by Thames Distillers Ltd. – part owned by Hayman Distillers – Clapham, London) England, UK.
Website
Burlington Drinks and Hayman Distillers.
History
Haymans have been distilling Gin in London for 150 years and started with James Burroughs (of Beefeater Gin fame) as James Burroughs Ltd. The company was sold in 1987 to Whitbread, although part of the business was retained and renamed Hayman’s. Today Christopher Hayman is supported by his son (James) and daughter (Miranda), the great-great-grandchildren of James Burroughs. This is the longest serving family owned gin distiller in England today. They own Burlington Drinks, primarily a bottling plant, based in Witham, East Anglia, England, UK.
Thames Distillers is run by Charles Maxwell who is the 8th generation of the family (founders of the Finsbury Distillery) who have been producing Gin since 1700 – making them the oldest unbroken lineage in Gin distillation.
Production
Distilled in a traditional manner from a secret recipe.
The Gin is presented in a traditional old style whisky bottle – clear, cylindrical and with a bulbous neck. The white label has a dark green border and top with a picture of the clock tower “Big Ben” found at the Houses of Parliament in London (and was formerly called “Parliament” Gin).
Category
London Dry Gin.
Alcohol By Volume (ABV)
37.5% (75 Proof).
Price Range
$$$. Not available in the USA but try online from Master of Malt in the UK but prepare to pay an additional 40% for shipping.
Botanicals
Unknown but includes angelica, coriander, juniper berries and other undisclosed herbs and spices.
Name
Named after the South Bank of the River Thames, which flows through London the capital city of England, UK. This was previously known as Parliament Gin.
Tasting Notes
On the nose is pine (juniper) and peppery spice (coriander) with some floral & herbal hints. On the palate this relatively smooth spirit has juniper with citrus (lemon) and peppery spice (coriander & possibly cardamom). On the close are juniper and peppery spice in the short dry finish. This is a basic no nonsense Gin.
Billed as a value Gin, this certainly meets that profile but not in a harsh or poorly construed manner. Whilst it can be drunk neat or in a Martini, this is not the best choice for this and should only be used this way if there is no other option. This Gin is best used with mixers making a suitable Gin and Tonic, Tom Collins etc. – just steer away from mixed drinks where the Gin is the dominant flavor.
This is a straightforward London Dry Gin at a good price and is perfect as a bartenders well Gin – certainly smoother and more flavorsome than most other Gins in this category. Simply put, this is a quality value Gin.
Awards & Accolades
Unknown.

Windsor Gin
Matthew McCann, Fine Wine Assistant Manager reviews Windsor Gin - Buy online at
Windsor, England on a Rainy Day @ The Royal Oak - Meantime London Lager, W&E Knight of the Garter
MEANTIME LONDON LAGER
4.5% ABV
Meantime Brew Master, Alastair Hook, has spent 20 years planning the quintessential English lager. His reasoning is simple. The great European lager brewers use very soft water and neutral yeasts to ensure that only the flavours of their locally grown malt and hops come to the fore. East Anglia is home to the world’s finest malting barley and Kent is home to some of the world’s best hops. Midway between the two, London is ideally placed to bring them together in a straightforward, clean, long-matured, unpasteurised lager, where all you can taste is malt and hop.
FOOD PAIRING
The hops in Meantime London Lager enable it to stand up much better than most lagers to stronger flavours such as mature cheeses, hams and smoked meats, or oily fish.
WINDSOR & ETON BREWERY KNIGHT OF THE GARTER GOLDEN ALE
3.8% ABV
Originally launched in June to coincide with the annual Ceremony of the Garter held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. This beer quickly proved so popular that it is now a favourite throughout the year.
A flaxen-coloured, easy drinking Golden Ale, brewed with American Amarillo whole leaf hops giving a distinctive fresh citrus aroma reminiscent of cut grapefruit.
The badge design features the emblem used at the ceremony to honour the Knights awarded this exclusive accolade. Our very own Knightclub is a little easier to gain membership of but no less sought after and a lot more fun (see Knightclub tab).

Eton │Windsor Castle with guard change - Downtown Eton - Eton College
Welcome to Eton, UK - actually until I've visited Eton for the first time, I only heard of that city in crossword puzzles. I was fully surprised who small that city or better to say that kind of village is.
It's a small town on some sort of hill - up there you can visit the Windsor Castle where Lady Diana lived with William and Harry during the time they both went to school in Eton. At the bottom of the town, there is the famous Eton college. That is still a school full of elegance and British rules - so each student who attends the college has to wear a special school uniform that looks like a fancy black suit with a with shirt.
As I said, up there on the hill there is the castle - each day tourists watch the changing guards and all around - you find numerous souvenir shops, restaurants and cafés selling crazy colored cakes and cupcakes.
Right next to the Windsor Castle there is a McDonalds restaurant - while eating in there, you have a direct view across the road to Windsor Castle. I bet Lady Diana surely also went there with her sons, William and Harry for a cool American lunch break.

SCOTS GUARDS TO PARADE IN GLASGOW
Around 250 soldiers will take part in a homecoming parade in Glasgow after a six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The 1st Battalion Scots Guards will march from Holland Street at 11am to George Square taking in West Regent Street, Pitt Street and West George Street.
The Lord Provost will take the Salute on the dais, with the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel, Brigadier Harry Nickerson in George Square.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Rob Howieson said, It is a great honour to march through the streets of Glasgow. The Guardsmen are very proud of their work and they are humbled to be able to parade in front of their friends, families and the local community.
The battalion has had a challenging six months in Afghanistan and the parade will recognise its achievement.
The troops, currently stationed in Catterick, North Yorkshire, were deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Herrick 17 between October 2012 and April this year.
