The Seven Mosques (Arabic: المساجد السبعة Al-Masajid As-Sab'ah) or Sab'u Masajid is a complex of six small historic and often visited mosques in the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia. The complex consists of six mosques in spite of the name Sab'ah means seven, because it included the Masjid al-Qiblatayn originally. Although the mosque is often visited by the pilgrims, there is no accounts in the order from the Islamic prophet Muhammad or in Sharia regarding the virtue of visiting these mosques.
Al-Fath Mosque
This is the largest mosque of all, and it is located beneath of Mount Sala' on the western part. It is narrated that this mosque is named as Al-Fath due to the account of the prophet praying here during the Battle of the Trench, and the battle ended in Muslim victory (in Arabic, Fath or Fatah means conquest in Islamic context). The mosque was built during the time of the Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, and renovated by the minister Saifuddin Abu al-Hija in 1154 during the time of the Sharifate of Makkah.
Salman Al-Farsi Mosque
Located 20 meters south of Al-Fath Mosque, named after Salman Al-Farsi who lead the construction of trenches during the Battle of the Trench. The mosque is built during the time of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, and renovated by the minister Saifuddin Abu al-Hija in 1154 during the time of the Sharifate of Makkah.

Al-Fath Mosque
This is the largest mosque of all, and it is located beneath of Mount Sala' on the western part. Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Mosque
It is located 15 meters southeast of Salman Al-Farsi Mosque. These three mosques (Al-Fath Mosque, Salman Al-Farsi Mosque and Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Mosque) were demolished and renovated into one mosque with wider space.
Umar bin Khattab Mosque
It is located 10 meters south of Abu Bakar As-Siddiq Mosque. This mosque is situated on higher altitude, and its look is corresponding to Al-Fath Mosque, thus it is considered that they were built and renovated at the same time.
Sa'ad bin Ma'az Mosque
Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque
Located in the south of Fathimah Az-Zahra Mosque on a small hill. This mosque has a length of 8.5 meters and width of 6.5 meters. It is narrated that Ali joined the Battle of the Trench here. Today, local government of Medina is renovating this mosque while maintaining the original shape, and building a large park surrounding it as a decoration of the small building.
Fatimah Az-Zahra Mosque
It is a small mosque attached to the others, with area of 4x3 meters. This mosque was built in the Ottoman era during the reign of Sultan Abdul Majid I.

Next we went to the location of the Battle of the Trench, or Khandaq, as well as some of the mosques that are associated with that battle, popularly known as The Seven Mosques.
The Seven Mosques, or al-Masajid al-Sab, mark the places where the Prophet (saw) and his Companions (ra), stood guard during that battle. However, only three of the seven are confirmed as authentic: the Mosque of Victory, or Masjid al-Fath; the Mosque of Salman al-Farsi, and; the Mosque of the Banner, or Masjid al-Raya.
I can't remember which one is the one we're visiting now, the tour guide wasn't too helpful lol.

A bomb exploded outside the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia on Monday night.
Videos from onlookers with smartphones have emerged showing the aftermath of the bombing. There are reports of multiple corpses and burning vehicles, as police and ambulances arrived at the scene.
Monday marks the final night of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of the festival of Eid.

Of the many historical and archaeological sites in Madinah, visitors are most likely to visit a group of small mosques, commonly known as “The Seven Mosques.”
People visit six small mosques in the region, but add a seventh one, known as the “Mosque of the Two Qiblas” which is about a kilometer away from the others.
The largest of the seven mosques is Al-Fath on a hilltop near the western side of Sal’ mountain. It was built when Umar ibn Abd Al-Aziz was governor of Madinah in the years 87 to 93 after Hijrah (705 CE to 711 CE). It was rebuilt in 575 H (1179 CE). It was then rebuilt again during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abd Al-Majid I in 1851.
The Salman Al-Farisi Mosque is located south of Al-Fath Mosque, 20 meters from the base of Sal' mountain. It is named after Salman, the companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) who recommended digging a trench to fortify the city from an invasion. It has one hall at 7 meters long and 2 meters wide. It was also built while Umar ibn Abd Al-Aziz was governor of Madinah. In 575 H (1179 CE) it was rebuilt on the orders of minister Said Al-Deen Abu Al-Haija. It was rebuilt again during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abd Al-Majid I.
The Abu Bakr Al-Siddeeq Mosque is 15 meters to the southwest of Salman Al-Farisi Mosque. It was reported that Abu Bakr, when he was caliph, prayed Eid prayer there. This is why it was named after him. It was also reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed the Eid prayer there.
The Umar ibn Al-Khattab Mosque is 10 meters to the south of Abu Bakr Mosque, opposite Al-Ghamamah mosque and close to the Prophet's Mosque. There is not much historical detail about the mosque, but there is speculation that it could be the ancient mosque at Al-Durrah place where Umar may have prayed during his reign as caliph. This would explain why it was named after him. It has an open yard and is eight steps above the ground. Its structure is similar to Al-Fath Mosque, which indicates that the two structures may have been built and renovated together.
The Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque is east of Fatimah Mosque on a high rectangular hilltop. It is 8.5 meters long and 6.5 meters wide. It has one small step. It is likely to have been built and renovated with Al-Fath Mosque.
The Fatimah Al-Zahra Mosque is known as Mus'ad ibn Mo'az Mosque. It is the smallest of the group and measures 4 meters by 3 meters. It has one small step. It has a similar structure to other mosques in the area and may have been built during the Ottoman era, most likely during the reign of Sultan Abd Al-Majid I in 1851.
