Seven Wives Trailer
Just a short trailer for my friends at The Seven Wives Public house in St Ives, Cambridge. They held a charity motorcycle event at the weekend to raise money for the Air Ambulance. I believe it was organised by the Cambridge branch of NCC Choppers (forgive me guys if I've got that wrong). In any event, it was a great day, the weather held and plenty of people and bikes turned up.

St Ives is a market town and civil parish in Cambridgeshire, England. St Ives lies about 5 miles east of Huntingdon and 12 miles north-west of the city of Cambridge. St Ives is situated within the non-metropolitan district of Huntingdonshire, which covers a similar area to the historic county of the same name.
Previously called Slepe, its name was changed to St Ives after the body, claimed to be that of a Persian bishop, of Saint Ivo (not to be confused with Ivo of Kermartin), was found buried in the town in about 1001/2. Original historical documents relating to St Ives, including the original parish church registers, local government records, maps and photographs, are held by Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies at the County Record Office in Huntingdon.
St Ives experienced town planning at a very early date, giving it a spacious Town Centre. Portions of this open space between Merryland and Crown Street were lost to market stalls that turned into permanent buildings. Some of the shops in the town centre are still to the same layout as in Medieval times, one rod in width, the standard length for floor and roof joists. The lanes along the north side of town are believed to follow the layout of the narrow medieval fields, and are slightly S-shaped because of the way ploughs turned at each end. Similar field boundaries can be seen in Warners Park.
As an important market town, St Ives always needed large numbers of public houses: 64 in 1838 (1 for every 55 inhabitants), 60 in 1861, 48 in 1865 and 45 in 1899, although only five of these made the owners a living. As livestock sales diminished, however, so did the need for large numbers of pubs, falling to a low point of 16 in 1962. In that year the Seven Wives on Ramsey Road was opened and, with some openings and closings since, there are 17 today. The pub which has stood on the same site, with the same name, for longest, is the Dolphin, which is over 400 years old. Next oldest is the White Hart, which is pre-1720. Nelson's Head and Golden Lion are at least as old but have not kept the same name and used to be called the Three Tuns and the Red Lion respectively. The existence of a pub on the site of the Robin Hood is also of a similar date, except that it was originally two separate pubs — the Angel and the Swan. The claim of the Royal Oak to date from 1502 cannot be proven since, while a portion at the back is 17th-century (making it physically the oldest portion of any pub in St Ives), the pub name is more recent. The reference is to Charles II's famous escape from Cromwell's Roundheads, and Charles was restored to the throne in 1660.
St Ives Bridge is most unusual in incorporating a chapel, the most striking of only four examples in England. Also unusual are its two southern arches which are a different shape from the rest of the bridge, being rounded instead of slightly gothic. The eastern or town end of Holt Island is nature reserve, and the western end, opposite the parish church, is a facility for the Sea Scouts. The scout portion contains what was, before the opening of the Leisure Centre, the town's outdoor town swimming pool.
The major section of the world's longest guided busway, using all new construction techniques and technology, connects St Ives directly to Cambridge Science Park on the outskirts of Cambridge. St Ives is just off the A14 road on a particularly congested section of the route from the UK's second city, Birmingham, to the port of Felixstowe and thence to the mainland of Europe. The town name is featured in the anonymous nursery rhyme/riddle As I was going to St Ives. While sometimes claimed to be St Ives, Cornwall, the man with seven wives, each with seven sacks containing seven cats etc. may have been on his way to (or coming from) the Great Fair at St Ives.

Breaking News One - Animal rights activists jailed over harassment of centre
A married couple blew up scientists' cars and falsely accused workers of paedophilia in a 10-year campaign of harassment against staff at an animal testing lab.Swiss-born Sven Van Hasselt, 31, and his British wife Natasha Simpkins, 30, were part of an extremist animal rights group named Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC).The group aimed to shut down Cambridgeshire-based research company Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) by forcing other companies to cut ties.Van Hasselt destroyed sports cars belonging to staff at firms linked with Huntingdon and the pair also posted items supposedly containing Aids to frighten workers.Abusive letters and death threats were also sent, along with threats of actual physical assault, aggravated trespass, posting items allegedly contaminated with the AIDS virus, and the blocking of email and telephone systems.The blackmail spanned from November 2001 and August 2011, and was focused on the Cambridge-based international research company which had been the target of animal rights extremism for many years, including attacks on its premises and staff.Over the years the harassment and violence began to increasingly target companies and people associated with HLS - either as customers or suppliers.Information about the companies and individuals were obtained under false pretences and then published on the SHAC website, making them a target for further harassment.SHAC activists told workers their details would stay on the website until the suppliers provided written confirmation it would sever all associations with HLS.Dutch national from Amsterdam, Van Hasselt was personally involved in setting fire bombs which destroyed sports cars and other vehicles belonging to employees of companies linked to HLS.The campaign also included the desecration of a grave and theft of an urn belonging to the mother of one employee.The Met's Counter Terrorism Command launched an investigation and three people were suspected of being involved in the blackmail, which including Dusseldorf, in Germany, a Swiss supplier called Novartis and Holland, in which 5,000 mink were set loose from a farm.Arrests were made in July, 2012, with Debbie Vincent from Croydon, south London, convicted of conspiracy to blackmail in April 2014, receiving a six-year prison sentence.Former soldier Vincent, formerly known as Peter Rogers, underwent a sex-change operation in 1992 and went on to become the mastermind behind the extremist campaign.A further seven SHAC members, who were based in Hampshire, were jailed for a total of 50 years in 2009.Both Simpkins and Van Hasselt, who recently lived in Bournemouth, Dorset, were arrested by Dutch Police in Amsterdam in July 2012 and were eventually extradited to the UK from the Netherlands.The pair were arrested at Heathrow in February last year and were both charged with conspiracy to blackmail, to which both pleaded guilty.At Winchester Crown Court yesterday, Van Hasselt was jailed for five years and Simpkins was handed a two

When Tom Gammon, General Manager of Nyle Maxwell GMC, heard about the need for Ballistic Vests for the Granger Police Department, he and the employees of the Nyle Maxwell Family of Dealerships decided to do whatever they could to get the officers the equipment they needed. He got in touch with GT Distributors in Austin, the largest public safety equipment outfitter in Texas, to see if together they could make a difference for these officers. GT Distributors was happy to help, and Tom, along with The Nyle Maxwell Family of Dealerships, was able to purchase seven brand new Threat Level 3 Ballistic Vests, one for each officer!

In his final rally speech before polling day, British Prime Minister John Major warned Tuesday that Thursday's General Election is a battle for Britain.
Speaking to the Conservative Party faithful in London, Mr Major urged voters not to risk a Labour victory and throw away the achievements of the past 18 years.
John Major's last attempt to sway the voters got off to musical start Tuesday night.
Despite lagging behind the opposition Labour party in the latest opinion polls, the Prime Minister was in defiant mood as he made his final impassioned plea to the British electorate to vote for the Conservatives on Thursday.
Focusing on the theme of closer European integration, Mr Major assured the audience he had no intention of compromising British sovereignty.
