Our final day back in Malaga. As we had a late flight home, we had the opportunity to get a good look at the town as we hadn't had that opportunity at the beginning of the week. Our final HOHO bus of the holiday took us up to the castle on the hill, Castillo de Gibralfaro, from where there were magnificent views. We walked down into the town and saw the Roman theatre, the Cathedral, the centre of town and the beach.

얼핏 보기에도 꽤 오래되었을 것 같은 독특한 인테리어와 분위기를 간직한 전통 술집. 벽을 가득 메운 통들은 전통와인을 저장해놓은 술통들이었고 옆에 적힌 숫자들은 생산년도였다. 주문을 하면 바로 술통에서 따라 준다. 낮인데도 현지 사람들로 가득하다. 화려하진 않지만 편안하고 소박한 멋이 있는 곳이다. 백칠십 년이 넘는 세월 동안 이 지역의 전통 와인들을 만들어 팔고 있는 이곳에서 반가운 얼굴이 눈에 띤다 - 피카소다. 스페인을 대표하는 무용수가 피카소에게 특별히 선물할 만큼 유명하고 맛있는 와인이 바로 이 집에서 만든 것이란다. 선반의 문을 열고 와인을 보여준다. 사진에서 본 것과 똑같다. 스페인 사람들은 항상 입이 바쁘다. 사실 스페인에 가기 전까지 ‘하루에 다섯 끼를 먹는 나라‘라는 이야기를 들었지만 설마? 하고 믿지 않았다. 하지만 말라가에서 만난 스페인 사람들에게 하루 세 끼는 분명 적은 듯 했다. 즐겁게 먹고 마시다가 자연스럽게 춤추고 노래하는 그 자유로움이 눈길을 끈다. 적은 것도 함께 나누고 즐기는 스페인의 전통과 문화 - 자주 먹고 자주 어울리기 위해 적은 양으로 만든 음식을 먹는데 이것이 바로 ‘타파스’다. 밤낮으로 먹고 마시는 문화라서 혼자 온 사람도 전혀 부담 없이 맥주나 와인에 음식을 즐길 수 있다. 전통술을 주문했다. 달달하지만 깊은 전통의 향이 입 안 가득 퍼진다. 먹음직스런 타파스도 나왔다. 어떤 맛일까? 새콤하고 향이 좋은 올리브에 싱싱한 엔초비가 어우러져 비린내는 거의 없고 씹는 맛이 부드럽다. 지중해의 신선함이 느껴진다. 170년을 간직해 온 오래된 풍경. 낯설지만 ‘그리움’이라는 이름으로 다가올 정겨운 풍경이다.

Ended up at a lovely open mic night at the Shakespeare in Màlaga, Spain back in February. Decided to spontaneously read an entry I had written in my journal that morning. Such a warm response from the crowd, I could not be more grateful. Also first time someone has recorded a full reading, so thought I'd share.
